Superman is kind of a shitty, boring character. Overpowered as fuck and a dull personality doesnt normally lead to a good character.

They had to invent "special alien rocks" to inconvenience him. The move to make him darker and grittier are completely opposite of the entire premise in the first place. Everyone knows who it is in every comic ("A bird! A plane"...) he appears in, he's damn near perfection and flash, what would really be bad about his life?

0/10, 0 stars.

I also like Toby Macquire over Andrew Garfield. Discuss.

agree to an extent.

Clark Kent surely has that adopted kid syndrome, where the people who raised you ARE your parents, but not your biological parents. add to that his abilities, then yeah, you have the perfect breeding ground for an isolated person in their later teens and early adult life, so it does work in that way.

I didn't buy killing Zod to save humanity after effectively killing a shit load of people through throwing the guy into buildings and vehicles and so on with seemingly no regard for anyone caught there. old school Superman would have taken the fight to the middle of nowhere, surely.

anyway, I agree with you on Tobey over Andrew; Tobey had that very geeky, unconventionally good looking face. he looked like a Peter Parker kind of person. Andrew looks exactly like Parker is being shown as in the new films, a skater boy type who also happens to be very smart, but certainly doesn't have the awkward charm or understated looks of Tobey.

Disagree about Tobey, his turn as Parker he was mostly just a whiny bitch! Garfield really puts the Pathos into the character, and the stakes seem to always be there even through a lackluster clusterfuck sequel.

Andrew Garfield's Spiderman had barely any obstacle as Peter Parker. He was smart, funny, got the girl with little to no trouble, and a thoroughly supportive emotional base. Yes his parents were dead, but it barely affected his character's motivations. Simply put, he was a geek who should be class president, gained superpowers, and swung around fighting crime because its fun and he could.

Tobey Macguire actually expressed and felt the childhood isolation. He was smart and could be funny at times, but he reflected the loneliness of being an outcast and an only child. He had real obstacles to deal with, from shyness when dealing with girls, being poorer and less well off (wasn't even an issue in amazing Spiderman) and even used the death of his uncle as a constant reminder and example of how he should live, rather than a minor inconvenience that doesn't get brought up ever again.

Its one thing to be a masked wiseass who manages to succeed at everything, but its different (and better) to see the struggle that goes along with it. And I think Macguire did that much better than Garfield.

And yet Pete lost everything in TASM2. Sure he got the girl, but he also realized she was constantly in trouble.

still not seen ASM2, so cannot comment on it, but from the point of view of the origin movies, Tobey's Parker was far superior to Andrew's.

I´m split. I like Tobey Maguire´s portrayal of Peter Parker a bit better, but I like Andrew Garfields portrayal of Spider-Man better. In the comics, Spidey is constantly trashtalking whoever he fights, constantly cracking jokes (bad ones) and smart-assing off. Pretty much, while he has the ability to focus on getting his foe down, he never was really serious in doing so. I think Maguires Spider Man was a bit too serious. A bit too little wise-cracking.

Maguire´s portrayal of Peter Parker is superior to Garfields in the first movie, but I think that Garfield´s Peter Parker really came into his own in the second one. I also think they don´t just want to take the Amazing Spiderman series to the trilogy but continue on beyond that, so a slower character development makes sense.
