From Jim Ross Website...................

Quote Hey J.R., I was watching wwe on demand the other day and caught the 1988 royal rumble. I seen a 2 out 3 falls match for the wwe womens tag team titles with the glamour girls against the jumping bomb angels. I was just wondering what ever happened to the womens tag titles. Also i vaguley remember reading in an old apter mag when i was a kid about the wwe junior heavyweight title which seemed to be defended only in japan. what became of that title too? I always enjoy reading your comments about wrestling in general and thank you for providing such a knowledgable voice on wwe.

There are not enough quality female wrestlers to have a competitive women’s tag team division in my opinion. Singles, yes but regular tag team matches, I don’t think so.

In three of four years, there's no reason why this belt cannot be brought back. Some might think too many titles. But if WWE can let TNA girls get exposure and then offer them money to jump (Kim, ODB and Kong at the moment are the only three good enough), women can be shown in a greater light with tag titles. It might have to happen on a two hour ECW or something, but it's a possibility and a way for WWE to once more promote a different female division to the one done by the competition.

Different like what? More focused on being eye candy?

Let's face it. Since Trish and Lita were gone, nothing has come around and shined like them in the WWE as far as the ladies go.

That's because Vince hasn't really put the emphasis on his best Divas, Mickie James and Victoria. I believe that Vince loves Mickie but he feels she isn't quite on Trish's level to build the division around her. That might explain why Candice has been the #1 babyface diva.

In any event, it's gonna be hard to ever have a competitive Women's division like they had a couple of years ago, when Trish, Lita, Molly Holly, Victoria and Jazz were ALL active. Right now, only Mickie and Victoria are solid workers. Beth Phoenix is talented but still green. Melina isn't that far away from being a legit force and Candice Michelle & Maria are improving quickly. So my guess is that we're not that far away of another competitive division.

But having Women's Tag Team title belts implies having Women tag team and I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Love & the Sky are the only real full blown tag team/stable of women I've seen on the television scene these days since Vince's Devils. And they're in TNA. (Layla, Lena, and Victoria don't count because Lena doesn't wrestle and Victoria only joins on occasion)

So I would have to agree. We don't need new women's tag title belts, at least not just yet. Let some of the ladies develop, maybe get some true alliances teaming regularly, PUT KATIE LEA IN A MATCH AND LET HER ACTUALLY BE MORE THAN CANDY… and we will be good. But as of right now, no.

TNA have three decent wrestlers and all are in the same match at the next PPV. It will get boring quickly watching the same three people in every title match on pay per view. WWE have good wrestlers like Beth, Victoria, Mickie etc. Kelly Kelly is improving loads. She did a really good drop kick on Santino this week on ECW. I'm not about to count the amount of Divas on the WWE roster, but given time for them to improve, there's no reason why they can't have a tag team belt.

I think the big issue is this....they can barely keep together the male tag teams long enough to make a solid division. How in the world could a women's tag team division get any attention? Well, how about once the women's division gets to the size they need to have a tag title....somehow a women's team beats a men's team and now both genders have a belt or something like that.

Jackie Moore? Angelina Love and Velvet no matter how much i dislike them?
They aren't as good as the other three, but they are better than alot of the divas Wink

Quote WWE Divas the Bella Twins are strongly in favor of WWE creating Divas Tag Team titles. During an interview with WWE Magazine (February 2014 issue), Nikki Bella said:

"We've been begging to get that done for years! It'd be a great chance to see what us girls could come up with. New finishers, new names, new gear. We're all so talented and creative and it'd be great to show that in a new way."

Brie Bella added:

"Girls gang up on girls. It's life. We sit down, we gossip, we group together naturally. Why not bring a little bit more of that aspect to WWE?"
WWF had a Women's Tag Team division from 1983 to 1989. But I don't ever recall them doing much of anything with the titles then.

However with the Divas reality show, the ladies have been given more regular TV on all of the shows. And in an effort to squeeze as many of them into a match as possible, tag team matches are common. So having a Divas TTC isn't completely ridiculous at the moment.

Might as well, as long as it's defended on ION Television and Syfilus, and not on Raw, or a PPV, except if/when it's actually worthy. There's so much B programming these days they can afford to do things like this. That's why I'm not in favor of unifying the Intercontinental and US Heavyweight Championships. You might as well have them, there's enough roster to work those titles into a storyline, if creative could be asked to give a crap about them, and there's more than enough television time on B shows to fit them on TV.

They might as well build on all of the press they are giving Total divas and bring something more into the divas division.

They need to push them as a big deal though if they do bring them in because i see no need for another title that WWE dont care about - we already have enough of them
