SmackDown pulled in 3.807 million viewers the first hour, and 3.817 million the second hour.  That's a million more viewers than they've been averaging on Syfy.  They also dominated in the most important demo 18-49, they trumped everything else on cable in that demo.

Let's remember that under the direction of Bonnie Hammer, USA Network passed on SmackDown many years ago.  The decision was made to avoid USA being seen as the "wrestling channel."  This despite that the channel had relied on the steady ratings that WWF/E had always brought to them over the years.

Personally, I think WWE should be pushing for USA to pick up SmackDown instead of doing all these silly 3 hour Raws.  WWE should offer a live SD broadcast each week.  WWE should also be flexible and offer to move SD to Tuesdays or Wednesday to suit USA.  (WWE wouldn't be able to move to Thursday night because of Superstars on WGN America, unless that show was axed.)

Shit rating which WWE will try and get out of blaming the fact it was NYE.......

Quote The New Year's Eve edition of SmackDown drew a 1.43 cable rating, with 2,205,000 viewers. It is a record low rating for a first-run episode of SmackDown on Syfy.

Watching the show it was like creative was too lazy to book a decent show knowing many wouldn't be in to see it.

The spoilers will have put a lot of folks off watching it because they read so shit.

creative is going to have to kick it in to gear for SD, Im hoping to see fresh faces and better storylines, Ziggler vs Edge is a good start if they do a proper build and that hinges on if they play the Vickie angle or not. I hope that Gabriel and Slater go over with thier former boss and make some sort of noise too. Right now though the way the show has been booked I can understand why the ratings have been bad.

Quote This past Friday's episode of WWE SmackDown on SyFy scored a 1.95 cable rating with 2,845,000 viewers.

Better than in recent weeks, but it's still way below they should be getting.

They got 1.8 on the live show which was alright, but it really needs to be a weekly 2 mark even if it keeps being recorded.

I'm surprised the recorded episode of last week did better than the live episode.

I honestly feel that the ratings in my opinion for both shows are very  over rated. Don't get me wrong,  I love wwf/wwe however it has changed dramatically. I understand that some of it is due to its content that was being viewed or things that were said. There are a lot of young viewers so that is definitely understandable. I feel that the talent crew can improve the content of the script. I know that there are limitations on what can be scripted or viewed by the audience. I was thinking maybe wwe talent can use a little bit of the old content mixed with the new content. I feel if they use this all the time, it would be more exciting. To me now, its not very attractive. Its more about drama and a lot of talking and less action. I mean cmon, that's why its called wrestling. Its not supposed to be about a talk show or a game show. I found it very ridiculous and over dramatic. Very distasteful and unappealing...

Quote The January 14 episode of WWE SmackDown on Syfy scored a 1.9 cable rating, tying the previous week's ratings high.

The program garnered 2.98 million viewers over the course of two hours, setting a new benchmark on Syfy. The previous week's show averaged 2.85 million viewers.

Still not hitting 3 million, but still ahead of what Syfy used to show in those timeslots.

I'm hoping that WWE has noticed that when they stopped having Edge vs Kane every week the numbers got better.  I hope they realize how sick fans are of seeing the same two guys having the same freaking match every week.

I still hope that WWE considers taking SmackDown live.  I would think that would help the ratings as well.

Great news for the blue brand keeps on coming........

Quote The January 21st episode of WWE's Friday Night SmackDown scored a 2.12 rating with 3,295,000 viewers. This is the best SmackDown rating since the show moved to SyFy.

The show was also the most watched on a Friday night for SyFy since the Stargate Atlantis premiere back in 2004.

The ratings are rising to new records week after week. I hope it continues.

Live Smackdown every week to capitalise on it would be great.

Quote Friday's SmackDown did a 2.01 rating with 3,024,000 viewers.

partial credit - pwinsider.com

Seems like cross promoting brands is working, which will mean the end of the brand extension soon  I think, and Im all for it, Itll hurt some mid card guys but if it makes the product better Im all for it, Id hate to see any title retired as the WCW world title is probably my fav belt on looks, and I would bet WWE would hang on to the IC title and retire the US belt as well.

Booker T debuting on commentary didn't help the rating that went down........

Quote The Feb. 4 episode of WWESmackDown scored a 1.94 cable rating, slightly down from the previous show's 1.96 number. The show garnered 3,218,000 viewers over the course of two hours, which was up from approximately 3 million viewers.

The show needs to be getting a 2 rating every week, especially in the run up to Wrestlemania.

WWE on their "Did You Know?" said on Raw how it's the highest rated show on SyFy every week. Come on that's not saying much.

NEW YORK – February 28, 2011 – WWE Friday Night Smackdown® established season highs in total viewers, Adults 18-49, Adults 25-54 and household ratings during its premiere on Syfy Friday, February 25, from 8-10PM (ET/PT).

This was also the most watched Friday Night Smackdown program since January 2010. Smackdown debuted on Syfy on October 1, 2010.

Smackdown leglocked 3.55 million total viewers.  1.36 million Adults 18-49 and 1.46 million Adults 25-54 while averaging   2.3 HH rating. This was up 11% in Adults 18-49, 14% in Adults 25-54 and 9% in total viewers versus the February 18 telecast. The program propelled Syfy to #1 among all primetime cable telecasts for Adults 18-49, as well as #1 in prime cable among Adults 25-54.

And thus dashing sci-fi geeks hopes of the wrestling program get moved off the network.  The Syfy original series Merlin airs following Smackdown.  Merlin drew 1.5 million viewers and is considered enough of a success that Syfy has ordered an addition season.
