People talk about WWF No Mercy as being the greatest wrestling game of all time. But to me, the last edition in the original SmackDown! Series takes the cake without a doubt.

As a long time fan, this game had it all for me!

The intriguing storylines in season that felt like a proper WWE television program, the unbelievable roster, the intense gameplay mechanics, the graphics for its tome are outstanding as the wrestlers actually resemble their look to a T! It was just perfect! This is one of the games I'd love to get a HD reboot!

That only scratches the surface of how much I love this game!

I'm hoping to do a daily/weekly/monthly update kind of thing as a plan on dusting off the old PS2 and playing over the storymode once again (similar to how people use to give updates on their WWE Universe).

Would like to get other peoples thoughts on this game if you have played it. What did you think? Was it ahead of its time and does it still hold up today?

It still holds up today without doubt. I've kept my PS2 for this and Shut Your Mouth. I'd say its on a par with No Mercy in terms if everything it offers however the storylines get repeated each time you play, that's the same for both games, however it's still fun to take a tripbavck down memory lane.

Had a little issue with the controls not working, so searched through my wardrobe and found a couple of spare PS2 controls. Plugged them in and I was away.

First off, I love the old 2003 Smackdown title sequence that kicked off the game with the intro. Bought back a lot of good memories!

Knowing I was going to be a little rusty since I haven't played this game in a fair while, I decided to play a quick one and one exhibition match instead of jumping straight into the storymode.

I played as The Rock against Shawn Michaels. By the way, The Hollywood Rock entrance theme is tremendous! They really captures that extremely well! Also, The Rock's taunts are awesome, from his pointing to his head acting as if to say he's smarter then his opponent, or even when he claps his hands like a retard after countering a move.

I ended picking up a pin-fall victory after a Rock Bottom, the match it self was nothing noteworthy as a walked around for while remembering what to do, picked it up pretty quick though. The controls are simple as well, just as how I remember it.

Not sure who play as in storymode. I have a couple of different choices I'd like to play as:
- Goldberg
- Rob Van Dam
- Brock Lesnar
- Steve Austin
- HBK

Rob Van Dam!. I had a brief play on it yesterday too. Some of the controls were easy to remember others not so lol.

Probably had the best roster out of the SVR series, grappling controls were a bit clunky though.

Played a few matches and tested out a couple of guys in Week 1 of Season Mode who I thought we would be interesting to play as including Chris Jericho, Edge and Booker T. I actually won the WWE Tag Team Championship's with Goldust as Booker T and defeated Team Angle aka Worlds Greatest Tag Team (Haas & Benjamin). Also, when playing as Jerich, I won the United States Championship from Eddie Guerrero. All of this was exclusively done on the SmackDown brand. Other not worthy matches were Scott Stiener vs. Chris Benoit, Kevin Nash vs. Ric Flair and Edge vs. Rhyno. Nash even defeated RVD to win the Hardcore Title.

After messing about, I've come to a conclusion on using Goldberg for my Season mode. I'm going to attempt to recreate Goldberg's Streak and have him win all the Championship's on the RAW brand starting with Intercontinental Championship currently held by Christian.

When going up for the World Tag Team Titles though, I wanted Mysterio as my partner so when I play a tag match, I can have intriguing dynamic of brute power and badass strength complimented with high flying. So I played as Hurricane and beat Mysterio for the Cruiserweight Championship, thus now Mysterio is free to join me on RAW. By the way, Hurricane is great to play as in this game, very fun character.

Whilst on the same card as that match, Goldberg was actually scheduled to face Kurt Angle with Stephanie McMahon as the Special Guest Ref. I decided to play that match and beat Angle, so now the Streak is at 1 - 0.

Goldberg should be fun for the time limit challenges.

If I remember correctly, I think you have to face a guy in the 90 SP (Lesnar, Rock etc.) and beat him in like under 3 minutes to get a Championship shot at either Angle or Triple H at Judgment Day.

*Double Positing*
APRIL, WEEK 1:

Alright, first off, the intro to your character is kinda cool, even though it's generic, it's still a nice touch to begin the the season mode.

I get a brief Raw opening intro of Jim Ross and The King talking about last night's WrestleMania, I am approached by Raw General Manager, Eric Bischoff. Eric sarcastically welcomes me to Monday Night Raw and wishes me all the best.

After that little exchange, I am transported to my locker room. The setting is pretty basic, just a wardrobe with various items such as a travel carry bag and a WWE Magazine with SuperStar Stats (I only get to see people on my brand though).

I go to see Eric in his GM office and request a shot at the Intercontinental Title. Eric grants me a match scheduled tonight.

I make my way back into the main menu ans notice Triple H is in the Parking Lot, so I go visit him. He says he has no time for me. I click the option of saying that he is no where as big as he use to. Flabbergasted, The Game challenges me to a body building contest of all things. This scene is based off of the the rivalry between Scott Stiener and Triple H in January of 2003. I think I've played this before, but I was judge of the competition between Steiner and The Game. Now, that role is filled by Coach.

To make a long story short, the contest was a tie and when we got backstage, I ended up in a Hardcore Match with Triple H. I really enjoy hoping on the the bike and grabbing him by the neck while I throw him into electrical equipment and exploding cars!

I beat Triple H by pinfall with the Jack Hammer on top of a car.

The Streak goes to 2 - 0 and that also means now I have technically already defeated both the WWE and World Heavyweight Champions. Not a bad start to the season I must say.

Up next, I take on Christian for the IC Title.
