Fun show for nostalgia purposes

Loved seeing SCSA

this was never going to do alot for storyline development but its good to look back on some of the people we grew up watching every week

Really fun show and it's something they should do once a year.

Nostalgia is great in wrestling, look at how successful the first couple of ECW tribute shows were, the key is to not over use it, for a few one off occasions it's fine and I really enjoyed this episode of Raw and from what I hear it pulled a decent rating.

Highlights for me were Stone Cold, the segment with Cena, the Usos and Rikishi, Bray Wyatt and Mick Foley and the 24/7 title stuff while silly was entertaining and it was great to see the legends getting amongst it, this is where the 24/7 title can be a real asset to the product.

29/07/2019 episode:

So Raw continued its comeback this week with what I thought was another strong episode.

Its worth noting that they seem to have thankfully abandoned the ridiculous over using of the 2 out of 3 falls gimmick to prevent wrestling during commercials, this week they took the logical approach of slipping the breaks in during entrances or quiet spots in matches which makes me wonder why they didn't do this to begin with.

The show opened with a mosh pit(basically a lumberjack) match between R-Truth and Drake Maverick for the 24/7 title, wasn't much of a match but as usual it was the other stuff that happened that provided the entertainment. The angle with Mike Kanellis winning the belt and then laying down for his pregnant wife to become champ is a different spin to put on the title which I'm fine with for a short time.

The gauntlet match for the US title contender was good although I wish they'd book Sami Zayn a bit stronger, hes been treated like a jobber lately and this guy can go in the ring he should be allowed to show that. Strong showings for Ricochet, Mysterio and Andrade though.

Tag title match was also very solid and the rebirth of Gallows and Anderson seems to be continuing with their win here.

I enjoyed the angle with Dolph and Seth and their match of course set up the appearance from Brock who put a vicious looking beatdown on Seth using a chair and then a stretcher as weapons, this was a good angle.

The show ending brawl was a fun segment too, this seems to be setting up another Samoa Joe vs Roman Reigns match for Summerslam. Cedric Alexander got some good spots in here so somebody is clearly very high on him right now.

All in all I thought it was a good show, I liked how they opened with the 24/7 title segment and there was a less talk more action format through the show with some good matches and storyline development.

I just watched this weeks episode of Raw on Hulu and it actually was good.

The 24/7 title segment was fun. Hopefully R-Truth gets the title back again going into Summerslam, and/or walks out of Summerslam holding the title. Truth is always a high spot on whatever show he's on, and having him take a step back at this point would be a mistake.

Glad to see Gallows and Anderson with Tag Team gold too. They deserve it.

The women's match didn't do much for me nor does the storyline.

Rollins and Ziggler was fun. They're well matched against one another. I really couldn't have given a crap about Lesnar though.

I like seeing Reigns with the Usos too. I hope that's a grouping that continues from now on. Reigns is good in a faction, and with Ambrose gone this is easily the best group for him to be in.

Was Raw any good this week? I know it's been trending upward, but I still don't trust WWE's product enough to watch regularly. Once you hit the bottom of the barrel, there's no where else to go but up unless you break the bottom of the barrel and start digging.

I enjoyed Raw for the most part this week.

The good:

The Andrade/Mysterio match

Roman Reigns near-hit and run angle in which led to a Samoa Joe face turn

The Women’s Tag Team title match, although people didn’t like the result, which was Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross winning the titles

Bray Wyatt taking out Kurt Angle when the scheduled match between Drew McIntyre and Cedric Alexander didn’t start

The closing segment with The Miz, Shawn Michaels and Dolph Ziggler, in which it was revealed that at SummerSlam, Dolph Ziggler will face Goldberg, who came out to a monster pop

The bad:

Charlotte and Becky vs Nattie and Trish. This was a complete mess. Charlotte walked out mid match and Trish was never tagged in. Most of the match was Becky and Nattie going at it.

Brock Lesnar beating down Seth Rollins for the second week straight, Rollins then cut a promo in which the crowd didn’t respond well to, tons of boos and “what” chants

Raw was a mixed bag but more good than bad:

Stuff I liked:

The show ending angle with Goldberg replacing Miz at Summerslam to face Dolph Ziggler, this was well executed and Dolph has been great in his promos with his legend bashing leading to this moment. Goldberg got a good pop and as I've said before Dolph is a good choice of opponent as he can bump and sell big, he can carry the match and there should be no issues with Goldberg executing his trademark power moves on Ziggler.

Andrade vs Rey Mysterio was a excellent match.

The Samoa Joe/Roman Reigns stuff was good if it has resulted in a Samoa Joe face turn which seems to be what people are saying, but I'm not sure if this was confirmed or not, Joe looked pretty bad ass throughout.

I actually liked the silliness at the Kanellis' OB-GYN appointment, it's daft and slapstick but everyone played their parts well. I would have left the title on Maria Kanellis for a while longer and let this angle play out, was a clever move having her husband Mike pin her while giving her a hug LOL

The Fiend - acted as interruption to another Cedric Alexander vs Drew McIntyre match so they can build a bit longer to the big pay off which surely has to be a decisive McIntyre win, Wyatt taking out Kurt Angle with the mandible claw was more good build for his new character.

Stuff I didn't like:

Becky and Charlotte vs Nattie and Trish - who were the faces and who were the heels here, didn't make much sense and Trish didn't even get in the ring. Seemed pointless to have a rare wrestling appearance from Trish only for her to not actually wrestle.

The Women's tag title match, not a great match and a random title change. The Iconics haven't been given the chance to do anything with these titles and at this point I would rather WWE just scrap the women's tag belts and write it off as a failed experiment.

The Brock/Seth angle - Rollins hobbling out selling his injuries was unconvincing and then after another beatdown from Brock he was still able to recover enough to cut a poor promo which got little crowd reaction, after last week Rollins should have left on a stretcher again to sell the beating he took or better still would have been no physicality and maybe a beaten down Rollins cutting a promo via sattelite vowing to beat Brock.

I felt like Raw slipped back into more of a standard Vince McMahon production this week, but there was still plenty to like about it.

Sasha Banks returning and heel turn.

Drew McIntyre vs Cedric Alexander was a great match, these two have amazing chemistry in the ring.

AJ vs Seth was another good match.

The King of the Ring hype was all well done.

Robert Roode actually wrestled on Raw and won, even if it was against No Way Jose.

Dolph Ziggler vs The Miz Feud is going in a weird way and not exciting me.

Nikki Cross & Alexa Bliss Partnership doesn't feel like a long term solution for the division.

Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson On Raw don't seem anymore elevated by being associated with Styles.

I missed seeing
Mike & Maria Kanellis Partnership On Raw to see what they were up to.

All that aside it was a decent Raw, a strong 7/10. It was worth a watch and didn't feel a chore.
