I just finished watching Raw on Hulu. It wasn't bad. I'd say good enough to watch, but it definitely could have been better.

I enjoyed the Ziggler promo and then match vs Roman Reigns. You could tell that was a promo written by Dolph Ziggler and not the writing staff and then re-written by Vince at the last minute; it displayed his true character far too effectively. The whole bit where he said something to the effect of how he got speared 3 times by Goldberg, and now he's so confused because he thought Goldberg only delivered a spear once every six months that he went out the next night and got beaten by Maryse's husband using Ric Flair's move and now he doesn't even know what week it is anymore was really quite funny.

It's definitely not something that would have come from the mind of Vince McMahon, that's clearly from the mind of Nick Nemeth.

That said, we still opened Raw with Ziggler jobbing to Reigns, so that sucks, but at least they executed the whole thing well.

I also have to admit they used Jerry LOLer well too. Advertise him as being on commentary, and to have a King's Court with Sasha Banks, and to plug the King of the Ring tournament, only swerve us with feeding him to Wyatt instead after he plugs KotR, and saving the interview with Sasha for someone else later, and then replacing him on commentary kept viewers on their toes instead of making it just another simple storyline.

Speaking of Sasha, she's being portrayed well. I groaned out loud when they started the interview and she started getting all emotional about her time away from the ring since WrestleMania, but then she turned it into being about her hair color and she was just blowing the question off. It definitely saved the interview from being another sappy bunch of shit it could have been. The second attack later in the night on Natty also helped. Sasha is looking like her old NXT self. This week and last she has definitely been "The Boss" and not the watered down version she has always been on the main roster since she was called up.

I'm actually interested in the WWE Universal Champion for the first time since Goldberg was champion. Subtlety is WWE's friend. Instead of having Strowman turn on Rollins and claim he's there for the championship, having him eye the title whenever he gets close to it is so much better. Now everyone is just waiting to see when Braun makes his move.

I would not however have given Rollins and Strowman the tag titles though. I HATE when randos pair together and beat an established team the caliber of Gallows & Anderson. I have never once been a fan of that kind of stupidity because it devalues every established tag team when it happens.

I enjoyed Cesaro vs Joe, and was sad to see Cesaro lose, but since it was Joe that beat him it makes it tolerable. I would likely have had the exact same reaction had the results been reversed. I'd be sorry for the loser of that match but happy for the winner. I wish those two had been paired together later.

Zayn vs Cedric was bleh. Cedric bores me, and Zayn needs some kind of work. Honestly I'd like to see Zayn have the mic taken away from him, turn him into a jobber who never says a thing, but then debut El Generico who cuts great babyface promos and gets himself into position to challenge for either the US or Intercontinental Championship. Then eventually (maybe a year later) get Zayn to talk about Generico and play out a storyline where they expose Zayn as Generico. I would go so far as to even book a match between Sami Zayn & El Generico, only to have Zayn fake an injury backstage before the match. They could even have his faking the injury get exposed on the way towards finding out he is Generico. I think there's a lot of fun to be had doing the whole Superman/Clark Kent thing with Zayn & Generico, and once it's all said and done you've got Zayn turned babyface and hopefully with enough fan support to be a main event star where he deserves to be.

That's a good review, Rico. I haven't seen the last Raw (was thinking about starting to go through the last couple weeks worth via USA Network On Demand); but even though I haven't seen the last Raw, reading your review I feel as if I did. You took us through segment by segment visualizing a lot of things, especially Zig's promo and what Lawler and Stowman did. Granted I have a different take on things (I don't mind Reigns beating Ziggler and I do like Cedric Alexander) but you painted a good picture. Thumbs Up

I would agree with much of this review, a very solid Raw that continues to show signs of a improved WWE product.

I really liked Ziggler vs Reigns, excellent promo work from Dolph and a great match. I have no issue with Ziggler losing as who really expects him to beat Reigns at this point, plus he went down fighting in a even sided match. That's back to back top notch matches for Roman after his contest with Buddy Murphy. Right now Ziggler isn't in a bad spot at all, hes working with top stars and getting plenty of tv time.

I'm enjoying the way they are building King of the Ring, they are hyping it as a big deal and giving a lot of background information talking about the past winners and the history and prestige.
Cesaro vs Joe was good although there were a couple of awkward spots where Cesaro seemed to struggle with Joe's weight almost seemed like Joe was sandbagging him. Zayn vs Alexander was short and sweet, Zayn at this point is a jobber, not surprised really he's a great worker but WWE has lots of great workers, he needs to change something to make himself stand out. Rico may be on to something with the El Generico idea.

I'm liking the slow burn to the feud with Strowman and Seth, like him or not Strowman is legit and should be chasing the World title, he's a decent big man worker too and can have some decent matches with Rollins. I'm not a big fan of putting the tag belts on Strowman and Seth as I don't like random thrown together teams and I was liking the OC as champs, WWE have done a good job lately of rebuilding Gallows and Anderson. However its pretty clear this is a short term thing before the inevitable meltdown between Seth and Braun so I would say there is a strong chance the belts will be back on the OC before the next PPV.

Now I haven't watched Raw yet as I am at work but I have however done my usual where I read through what has happened to determine if it is worth watching

Ladies and Gentlemen ..... Bayley turned Heel.

I actually got goosebumps when I read it and now I cant wait to watch the show.

I'll post in the relevant threads with my comments once I've seen the show this evening

I haven't seen Raw yet either but this is very interesting and a long time coming. We all could tell (anyone who's been watching at least) that this has been building.

Legit more anticipated than a Cena turn.

I have long been a supporter of
Referees In WWE so it was good to see John Cone so prominent during his match.

The Bray Segment didn't go anywhere and the Bayley supposed heel turn (or is she still going with her not being in anyones shadow storyline?) rushed off air very fast.

Cesaro didn't get a win against The Miz to keep building him up after his showing at NXT UK Takeover.

Watched Raw this week. It's still not good. I wouldn't say it's bad in the sense that it pisses me off and I want WWE to die, but it's still pretty boring.

I beg to differ Rico I felt raw has improved a fair bit they're given us a lot more wrestling in particular the segments with the 24/7 title and the fiend stuff has easily been the best parts of raw.

It's been good seeing some new pushes in Chad Gable and even the return of Rusev

I do hope after this that we don't see anymore smackdown live stars on raw after this draft unless it's for the 24/7 title or to do with the women's tag team championship.

100% agree

The Sasha Becky storyline and The Fiend are the ONLY interesting things happening on Raw at the minute. To be honest when you look at Smackdown that doesnt really have anything other than Bayley and Charlotte so i would say the so called big 2 are pretty bad righ tnow.

NXT on the other hand is going from strength to strength and when AEW kicks off - it looks like we will at least have 2 great wrestling shows to watch, hopefully then WWE truly up their game

A little free time on my hands today so managed to watch Raw in its entirety so here's a review:

Raw - season premier - 30.09.2019:

Show opens with Rey Mysterio who is set to cut a promo, Dominik is sat ringside, Brock Lesnar interrupts and literally beats the crap out of Rey, really hard hitting realistic looking beatdown. Lesnar then drags Dominik out of the crowd and ragdolls him around ringside and in the ring. Dominik would later be taken away in a ambulance with his Dad with him. This was a great angle that put a ton of heat on Lesnar and credit to WWE for the realism here as the paramedics could be heard asking Rey if his son has any medical issues and it was later said the authorities were questioning Brock and Heyman looked shocked and even gave a apology of sorts for Brock's actions.

Sasha Banks vs Alexa Bliss - Short pretty generic WWE match, was more about Becky who was sat with the announcers and then rushed the ring post match to brawl with Sasha followed by a short promo from Becky which was aggressive and to the point, pretty good stuff.

Roode/Ziggler vs Heavy Machinery - Solid tag match, I like how Heavy Machinery are a Dudley Boys style team in that they are fairly basic in the ring but do plenty of fun crowd pleasing spots.

Miz TV with Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair - This was a really fun segment, Miz, Hogan and Flair all seemed to be having a great time, Hogan and Flair teasing a fight but then admitting they're too old was funny stuff, and it was a great little bit of nostalgia which announced the match for Crown Jewel where Hulk and Flair will be coaches. Flair put Miz over strong too which was a nice touch.
This leads to Rollins and Orton being announced as team captains which saw some good promo work from Randy and Seth followed by what appeared to be a match between them but it went to a quick non-finish when Rusev and Corbin stormed the ring signalling that they will be on each team, the four men then brawled which seems to mean Rusev is a babyface. Seemed a bit senseless to cut the Orton/Rollins match so short for no real reason but I guess this is a money match for a bigger occasion.

Rusev then backstage doesn't want to talk about Lana but says Seth now owes him a favour and challenges him tonight for the title.
I was ok with all this but just seemed a waste to have the five way match last week only for Mysterio to be written out of the title match this week by Lesnar and then Rusev walks into the spot even though he wasn't part of the five way match last week, holes like this in storylines are what annoy people about WWE booking.

Viking Raiders vs Gallows/Anderson - Good fairly even sided match that showcased both teams in the ring.

Ricochet vs Cesaro - Decent fast paced match, these two had good chemistry in the ring and the contrast of Cesaro's power and Ricochet's high flying stuff worked well.

Firefly Fun House - Typically zany stuff to build to the Hell in a Cell match. Bray put over the brutality of the match in his own way.

AJ Styles vs Cedric Alexander - Another solid match, very much a Cruiserweight style worked here, decent stuff.

Lacey Evans vs Natayla - Good enough match, Lacey is still improving so having her work with a vet like Nattie is smart as Lacey definitely isn't the finished article yet.

We see a series of backstage promos, Heyman building up Brock's match with Kofi, Maria Kanellis basically admitting Rusev isnt her baby's father and then Sasha hyping how she was part of the only womens hell in a cell match to date. Was all fine, pretty standard backstage stuff.

Seth Rollins vs Rusev - Ok match which of course gets interrupted by Lashley coming out who then beckons for Lana to come out, seemed to be a delay with Lana walking out which got a bit awkward, of course this sees Lashley and Lana passionately making out and groping one another in front of Rusev, pretty shocking stuff and Lashley and Lana seemed to be having a great time with a pretty convincing performance.

The lights then go out and The Fiend appears and takes out Rollins to close the show.

I enjoyed far more than I disliked here, the show seemed to have a edgier feel to it at times, there was plenty of good wrestling action, I liked the look of the new set and having pyro back is a nice touch.

Overall I would say there are signs of a improved product again but still not enough to make me think WWE have turned a corner, but enough to make me optimistic it may happen soon.
