Quote Source: BusinessWire

In its earnings release, WWE revealed the buyrates of some recent PPVs:

Backlash - 273,000 buys
Judgment Day - 236,000 buys
ECW One Night Stand - 268,000 buys
Great American Bash - 233,000 buys
Vengeance - 320,000 buys

The most glaring conclusion to be drawn is that RAW continues to be the superior brand for generating PPV purchases. Rather than reflecting TV viewership, the numbers reflect the general feeling that RAW comes off as the "main show," while SmackDown! is secondary. With SmackDown! likely to lose viewers as it moves to Friday, there is increasing pressure to book effective storylines on the network show.

While technically strong, the reality is that most will look at the ECW buyrate as a disappointment. The Internet hype distorted the perception of the PPV by suggesting it would score a WrestleMania-esque buyrate (two sources predicted in the 550,000-800,000 range); the flaw in such thinking was that ECW had always been most popular with the diehard "Internet fans" - such online hype was not a valid indicator for casual fan reaction.

clearly raw is the better show according to the buyrates. for all the hype the ecw show got and with how many dvds the ecw one sold. it should have done alot better. not smackdown moves to fridays which is for alot of the wwe fanbase a going out night. storylines on the blue brand will have to improve or buyrates will go down further.

I agree with you on that and also too much money to pay for pay per views in Britan 15.00. Why don't they keep all the pay per views on Sky Sports and then we won't have to pay.

it's because this way Sky and the WWE can generate a bigger income from pay per views.

I thought WrestleMania 21 was going to top that due to Angle/HBK 1, Batista/HHH 1 and Austin on Piper's Pit.

And the Money In The Bank Ladder Match as well.

They had good matches but RAW is a good brand i got to admit that with the ladder match and Batista/HHH 1.

SmackDown! is trying more harder every week but the only good match they had was Rey/Eddie and it was a good opener for WrestleMania 21.

yeah we dont. and just do what i do and get a few more people who wanna watch it to chip in so you dont pay 15 you pay a few quid. i hardly thinks in the uk can complain about paying for them. we have had it good for so many years. and america pay 39.95 for the events. so imagine paying about 19 to watch a brand only ppv when most of them we dont have to pay for.

Quote Although it does not affect the negative outlook for Sunday's WWE No Mercy PPV, World Wrestling Entertainment announced that a number of its 2005 PPVs did better buyrate figures than originally reported.

_ WWE Backlash, originally reported at 273,000, did 325,000 buys.
_ WWE Judgment Day, originally reported at 236,000, did 265,000 buys.
_ ECW One Night Stand, originally reported at 268,000, did 325,000 buys.
_ WWE Vengeance, originally reported at 320,000, did 370,000 buys.
_ WWE Great American Bash's numbers remain unchanged at 233,000.

those are some rather impressive buyrates. and shows how the product this year on a whole as been as good as its been for a while. yeah its $39.95 to watch it. but if the card and storylines are strong then people will pay for it. the ecw buyrates clearly show that wwe will be doing another ppv for them some time next year.
