Yeah Riddle is great, just hope the stoner/surfer character that turns bad ass in the ring can transition successfully to the main roster.

I really like Cole, reminds me very much of Shawn Michaels when he was in his prime during the 90's. Again I have my concerns about how well he will fare on the main roster considering he doesn't have the best win/loss record in NXT, plus his small size and look may work against him as I can see Vince looking at him and being disgusted.

I'm quite surprised at this to be honest, i thought he would be one of the guys you would be a fan of.

His in ring ability is really really good and he has an electric personality. He puts over guys too and sells like an absolute boss PLUS the crowd love the Bay Bay chants.

The only thing he lacks is size but thats not so important in WWE these days by the looks of things and no doubt he would put some size on when he joined the main roster in the way that Rollins, Bryan etc did.

I'm also a fan of Riddle - its a fresh sort of gimmick and his in ring style is pretty bad ass - he can pull out some top moves during PPV level matches too.

Yeah that's why I make the Cole/Michaels comparisons, he's a smaller guy but is charismatic with a cocky arrogant heel persona, he's great at selling and storytelling and his all round ring work is top notch. I also thought he'd be the kind of talent Rico would like.

Riddle I could actually see being the top guy in WWE in time, it all depends on what Vinnie Mac thinks of the surfer dude character. I really want the Riddle/Lesnar match to happen, Riddle would be made if he went over Brock at a big event.

Although not strictly related to the weekly TV show or in fact the regular weekly tapings, but it appears as though there will be no TakeOver on Royal Rumble weekend in 2020.

There will instead be a Worlds Collide show on the Saturday.

I have to say im disappointed by this as the TakeOver shows are generally the best shows, maybe WWE know this and want more focus on the Rumble instead of the general online backlash they get every single time TakeOver trumps a WWE PPV, especially one of the BIG PPV's.

Theres no word yet on the TakeOver schedules for 2020 so hopefully this Worlds Collide will be a one off and normal service will be resumed on PPV weekends going forward

Tonight NXT is live and 2 hours long... I'll have to watch it tomorrow on Hulu. ;)

This is the official start of the Wednesday night wars. NXT is off to a good start.

EDIT:

So I watched this earlier this morning and it was very good. It was 56, and from the reviews I've seen online this was a good thing, bumping out 2 rather meh matches, and cutting out all the RawNXT-is-recap crap they used to help pad time to fill the 2 hours.

I'm also hearing that AEW bought commercial time to hype their debut in key markets during the show, so... yeah they're not competing at all.

Right so we have had the first episode of NXT on USA.

Here are my thoughts on this highly anticipated night ...

The first thing that jumped straight out at me was that it didnt seem like a live show, with the traditional NXT dimmed lighting around the crowd and the overall production, it didnt stand out from a production perspective as much as what i thought it would - i was disappointed with that aspect.

The womens fatal four for the number one contender position was really good. Io for me stands out by a million miles as easily the best female worker in NXT. Candice, the winner, has improved alot though - shes really good. I loved the staredown with Baszler at the end of the match. I am not a fan of Mia Yim at all, i just dont get her and i dont rate her.

The squash match was exactly that, a squash.

Strong v Dream - this for me was absolutely perfect. There was the excellent in ring story telling, alot of very very close near falls BUT most importantly for me, the result meant that Undisputed Era have all of the gold - which is something i have wanted (and stated many times on here) for a long time. Another positive of this match was that Cole cost Dream. It is clear to me that Dream is the biggest star in NXT, it is also clear that there are not really any other current worthy challengers to Coles title - for me Dream v Cole is the perfect feud now for the NXT title.

As much as i want UE to have all the gold, im hoping the feud with Dream goes on for a while - maybe covering 2 TakeOvers where we finally see Dream take the NXT gold at the end of the feud.

Pete Dunnes match was good and it was refreshing to see someone actually submit from those horrible finger snaps.

Xia Li looked ok in her very quick win over Aliyah

The arrival of Imperium was awesome - WALTER is so over and so good for a man of his size. This is going to be brilliant to see week in week out on the main NXT brand.

Lio Rush v Oney Lorcan was a really good match. It was easy to forget just how good rush is in the ring after his time as Lashleys mouthpiece and subsequent exile from WWE.

I was really disappointed with the street fight. I had been looking forward to this match and it was clear from when it started that there was not enough time allocated for a match of this type. Maybe this was just a taster but weve had plenty of those between these 2 over the past couple of weeks. This was the biggest disappointment of the night for that reason alone.

So overall there were some excellent parts of this episode, The womens fatal four way, Strong v Dream and Imperium were the A+ segments of the show.

For me though, something was missing and it didnt seem to come across as big of a deal as it was hyped up to be. We didnt get any of the rumored main roster stars appearing, we didnt get the advertised street fight in full, we got Lio rush returning non advertised - it just seemed a bit strange.

The in ring stuff was excellent as always though

I enjoyed the production quality and such. I think if this had been a Raw/Smackdown style production it would have taken away from the fact that this is NXT, where pro-wrestling is still alive and well. It would have screamed at me that NXT was being watered down to be just another Vince McMahon production.

I also think that with the street fight, since they booked it to take place again next week did it's job of highlighting the difference in the roster vs Raw/Smackdown, and still gives us something to look forward to for next week where hopefully it won't break down into another melee.

I liked that they kept the NXT style production, it had the same look and feel that NXT has always had, I really enjoyed the show but I do think it failed to make the big splash people expected, but then again its said that perhaps WWE are waiting until the AEW debut to pull out all the big guns with NXT.

I like that they've added the Cruiserweight division, its always been a much better fit for NXT than the main roster, but at this point I don't see the relevance of a Cruiserweight title as most of the NXT talent are smaller guys, at this stage the CW title almost sends the message of these guys aren't good enough to be heavyweights. But I loved what I saw from Lio Rush and merging the CW roster into NXT is a positive move.

Walter and his Imperium faction is a excellent move for the brand, Walter is money and should be a top star in WWE.

The womens match was superb, Io Shirai shone once again and Le Rae winning was smart as it sets up a title match Shayna will likely win before moving onto bigger things.

Velveteen Dream vs Strong was really good also, Dream was protected in this loss and I like Undisputed Era having all the titles.

Riddle vs Dain was mostly just to set up the next match but the huge brawl with the whole roster was a nice touch to add something extra to this episode.

One thing that stood out with this show was it was all non-stop wrestling, now that's fine for the first two hour episode but they surely cannot maintain this format each week, they need to find a nice blend of great wrestling, promos and angles to develop storylines.

All in all I liked what I saw a lot, I just think maybe we were all expecting a little more but then that is probably all still to come in the near future. A strong start for the two hour format.

I happened to catch the Adam Cole vs Matt Riddle Title match on last night's show. Each guy's moves were impressive. There were several times they both seem to have it won only for the guy to kick out or reverse the hold. The athleticism all around was great. It was legit one of the best matches of the year. NXT has me sold.

Cole vs Riddle was good. But to be honest, I liked Cody vs Sammy better as an opening match. There was just so many more things going on in Cody vs Sammy, and the commentary was clearly better imo. NXT is better than the rest of WWE but it's still got that was stank that takes away from the professional in professional wrestling.

That said, WWEs women's division is head and shoulders better than AEWs. The match was shorter yet still much more entertaining than AEWs title match.

Also want to mention that Balor going to NXT is a good sign that NXT is going to be far more important programming going forward. I fully expect to see Balor turn heel in the very near future. Probably taking Walters title and then joining the UE. You can kind of forget what dinky little guys the UE are until Balor shows up and hes looking them right in the eye.
