samoa joe vs shinsuke nakamura first meeting at nxt takeover brooklynn was a awesome match for the nxt championship they put on a five star match that night. plus there build up now for there second up coming match takeover Toronto for the nxt championship gonna be a match thats gonna keep you on your feet and dont want to be missed. there build up been very entertaining to watch. hope to see bobby roode get a nxt championship match in the near future or see booby roode start a feud between him and eric young that will be a good feud to see in nxt. they had some pretty good matches in tna. would like to see what triple h can come up with for a match between those too talented wrestlers. theres alot of talent in nxt that triple h can make into rivals and storylines. Been watching nxt since it started, theres been so many great matches in nxt from the womens divison to mens divison. seeing the first ever womens iron womens match between sasha banks and bayley. the fatal 4 way match between Charlotte sasha bayley becky or the match between bayley and sasha when bayley first won her nxt championship. the too ladder matches and the first steel cage match and much more. cant forget about the nxt tag teams they put on some good matches. nxt storyline and product very entertaining then watching raw and smackdown

As far as NXT matches are concerned, Joe vs Nakamura was awkward and lacked chemistry. It was still quite watchable, but it could have been a lot better. The next match they have, in Toronto ought to be a whole lot better, and I'm very much looking forward to it.

Gutted for the loss of Hideo Itami to injury AGAIN. I wanted to see Aries vs Itami so much.

Bobby Roode imo ought to be on Smackdown bringing Smackdown their equivalent to the Gift of Jericho, plus it puts Phenomenal and Glorious on the same brand, and that's a pairing that could easily compete with JeriKO.

I'm a fan of Eric Young, and I'm looking forward to seeing what Sanity is all about, but atm I'm still not exactly sure what to make of them. That chick was pretty cool, but if done wrong it could get old quick, silly, and dumb, done right it could be pretty awesome though. Luckily this is NXT we're talking about, and not Raw or Smackdown.

Right so i've gave the show from this week a first watch in probably about two years since Sky Sports had it removed to be put on the WWE Network. Maybe it wasn't the greatest week to try it after so long away because it didn't particularly impress me.

Keeping it an hour still once adverts and recaps are taken away gives you about 35 minutes a week to try and make stars, which you don't need me to tell you isn't enough.

I like Samoa Joe and Eric Young but it was like watching an old TNA Impact because outside of those two no other male was pushed.

Surely a talent like Bobby Roode should be around every week, unless i'm missing the point.

The womens match was like watching an old Superstars squash match.

I like NXT but like Admin I've not watched the weekly show regularly in ages as in honesty it's completely missable, there's not enough time to promote the top talents each week and as a result talents drift in and out often not being seen for weeks at a time, it surprises me because back when Owens, Neville and Zayn were the top players on NXT they always seemed to manage to showcase them all each week so I dont really know what's changed.

I've said this before but perhaps giving NXT a slot of time on Raw or Smackdown might be the answer to give a bit more TV time to their roster, otherwise I will just continue to read the weekly results online, catch a couple of highlights if I see anything I think is worth watching, and of course I always watch the Takeover events as in fairness you get your money's worth from NXT just from them alone.

I couldn't disagree more.

NXT needs to be separate. It's developmental for a reason they don't need to be paraded around like a sideshow as if they're the cruiserweights division. The women's division was completely gutted after the draft minus Asuka, it's crap again and that's why they are having the women's version of the Cruiserweight Classic next month, to rebuild.

Aside from that though, NXT is still imo the best show to watch week in week out from the wwe. NXT is PRO-WRESTLING. Raw and Smackdown are sports entertainment. It isn't unheard of to have NXT show only one match, like when Sami Zayn faced off against Samoa Joe in a number one contender match to face Finn Balor last January. The match was incredible.

NXT right now is more than good enough, it's the best even when it's bad, simply because Raw and Smackdown are unwatchable since Summerslam. I would however love to see NXT become a two hour show, BUT then you're talking about splicing together several more cherry picked house show matches. The show just isn't put together the same way Raw and Smackdown is and that is part of the appeal.

Moreover, I don't see how you guys can complain the Raw is too long even when you watch a condensed version and yet NXT runs 56 minutes and it's not enough. They fit more actual wrestling in that show that Raw does in 3+ hours.

Catching up with the NXT weekly shows by watching the Melbourne event.

Revival are stuck working with Toni Sabateli some guy who reminds me of the renegade from wcw. Bad communication really made this match a stinker, not even revival can salvage a match where the jobbers perform the wrong moves at the wrong time. IMO Revival should have just called an audible and beat the holy hell out of them in a shoot, and then told the guys backstage the other guys weren't performing the called spots and they needed to protect the business. Backstage politics being what they are they'd probably get fired though, but jobbers made everyone look dumb.

Bobby Foods and The Drifter vs Dillinger and Buddy Murphy
This is a MUCH better match, and Roode is owning the hometown crowd. True pro that guy.

Liv Morgan vs Billy Kay vs Ember Moon
Ember Moon is gonna be a star in the not too distant future. She isn't at Asukas level, but no one is. However this IMO is the best choice wwe has to use as Asukas successor, and Ember Moon is still getting better. If protected some it might be hard for most fans to tell she isn't at Asukas level when the time comes. If booked as an upset, which it would almost have to be, I doubt the fans would reject it and in fact be accepting of her as the new women's champion. Maybe Wrestlemania, but better at Summer slam for Ember Moons sake.

TM61 vs DIY
OK, so these guys are real good, but tbh I have a hard time caring, they both lack any personality and I don't see what difference there is between these guys and the tag team of Doug Furnas and Phil Lafon. The crowd was very into it, but it was met by little more than apathy from me.

Samoa Joe vs Shinsuke Nakamura steel cage

This may have been their best match, and it is fitting as it was their last in this particular feud. I've never been really blown away with their matches and always felt there was more they could have done together, and I still feel that way, but this was Imo their best showing.

I look forward to seeing Joe on the main roster hopefully at the Royal Rumble, and I also can't wait to see Nakamura vs Roode at the next Takeover event.

NXT January 11, 2017

Billy Kay and Peyton Royce vs jobbers
Before the match, a video is shown of them attacking Asuka outside the building. KayRoyce win and talk smack about Asuka who comes out still selling the attack but pissed, she gets double teamed and beat down, and Nikki Cross comes out and chases them off then as Asuka gets up Cross attacks Asuka as well. Actually it turned out to be a cool segment and Cross came off looking strong and nuts.

Backstage Sanity is interviewed and EY says they're taking over and it starts with the women's championship.

Elias Samson vs Jobber
I'm really turning into a mark for the drifter. He gets so much heat for his gimmick, but he has a great look and he is good in the ring and even on the mic. I hope he is in NXT for another year at least because given that time I think he can get over really well with the fans and become a big deal when he gets called to the main roster in 2018.

Cien vs Lorcan
Rematch from the Osaka event. Andrade is turning into a heel I really dig. If I were a wrestler I would want to be a heel a lot like Almas. He shows off, does something outrageously arrogant like slapping a guy in the face and laughs about it, drawing "oooooohs" from the crowd, and then gets the shit kicked out of him for doing it, and laughs from the crowd and cheers for the babyface. Love the psychology, love that he got the win, too.

Average NXT this week. I don't see anything special in Ember Moon, and she really needs a more believable finisher going forward. It was great to see Tyler Bate in action infront of the American audience and the fans took to him well.  They had an excellent farewell package for Corey Graves, and No Way Jose did well to put away Sampson.

I do wonder what the following weeks bring, but Bobby Roodes celebration is next week so shall see who challenges him.

Was this a typical after-takeover show where they show all the dark matches, and backstage interviews and such? I have been skipping those shows lately because they're just not that good, but if it's an actual "new" (such as they are) show of NXT then I'll want to watch.

Pretty much yeah. There were the three matches, a cracking video package on Corey Graves and lots of highlights/backstage chat on Takeover. I'd probably just watch Bate vs Orcan and the video package if you don't have an hour to spare.
