So; I guess we will use this thread to discuss Main Event episodes for as long as its on the air.

The show begins with Michael Cole and Miz in the ring hyping the show. They then go to promos on Punk and Sheamus, their background and past history of the climb to get to where they are today. They show clips of Punk's pipebomb promo from 2011.

CM Punk vs Sheamus, WWE Champion vs World Heavyweight Champion; surprisingly Punk is taking it slow in this match. He is more methodical as Michael Cole said, waiting for Sheamus to get up and them dropkicking him down, giving himself time to rest in the process. I love Punk's martial arts kicks.  Sheamus rallies back and hits a shoulderblock from the ring arpron for a two count. Punks rippes the turnbuckle off; I know Sheamus is gonna be hit with it later on. Sheamus nails the White Noize (what Finlay used to call the Celtic Cross.) Punk later hits the Macho Man Elbow. Sheamus counters the GTS and locks in the Texas Cloverleaf; but Punk gets to the ropes. Sheamus beats himself by running into the turnbuckle Punk earlier exposed; and Punk subsequently gets the pin. It was a very good and competitive match.

They are doing the post match right, with Sheamus grabbing the mic and saying that is why Punk doesn't have respect and vowing that he will win a rematch and with Josh interviewing Punk and Paul Heyman in the back, giving it a big match feel.

They hype next week's main event of Big Show vs Randy Orton.

Tag Team Tournament match; Santino & Zack Ryder vs Tyson Kidd & Justin Gabriel; oh good I can see my man TJ. This is a very fast paced match. It is interesting how Miz mentioned John Morrison when talking about how winning the Tag Team belts helped his career with the rumors of Morrison's return. It was a good elbow by TJ. Zach Ryder later hits a knee and Santino gets the win with his stupid Cobra. That is a bad move by the matchmakers; Santino is a joke and Gabriel & Kid are the much better team skill wise.

Overall it was a very good first show; the packaging made it exciting and Michael Cole and Miz worked great together at the broadcasting booth. I know some said that in time Main Event may have mid to lower carders on it (which would not be bad at all; that's why I tried to make an effort to watch Superstars); but as of right now they have top talent. To be honest it seemed a lot more like an old episode of Saturday Night's Main Event than Superstars. If they hyped every main event of Raw this way (instead of just hyping pay per views and having the GM announce the Raw main event) then any episode of Raw would be so much more exciting.

I watched it last night cause Punk was on it and I was bed-ridden with very little to watch. The baseball games were boring and one-sided, Wednesday night shows were on repeat and whatever it had Punk wrestling.

The opening with vignettes putting over Punk and Sheamus were great though I found the cameo from Joey Mercury of all people to be weird.

The match was fine and Punk beating Sheamus pretty clean was good though again heel CM Punk doesnt win via a finisher. Cole overplaying the babyface a few weeks after being such a heel was annoying as hell when the match ended. Sheamus's promo pissed me off because he made excuses for losing and then said he isnt making excuses. CM Punk beat Sheamus and he did so legally otherwise the ref wouldve dqed Punk for using the ropes, the tights were pulled very late so that isnt an excuse. Sheamus didnt have a leg to stand on here but acted like a snobby person here, he is such an asshole yet he is the babyface here.

Gabriel and Kidd are awesome as a tag team and it was annoying that they lost to the pg comedy duo that is Ryder and Santino.

The show was good for what it was and I might even watch it next week if I remember too.

Edit: Oh and Miz needs to decide if he wants to be a heel commentator or not cause he jumped from heel to babyface alot last night. And it was nice to see other wrestlers besides Cena featured in a breast cancer awareness commercial on wwe TV.

I was completely shocked to see them hyping the main event from the very start. They were focused on it from the very begining. Why aren't they doing this on their "big" shows? It just wasn't that they were hyping the match, but they framed it as being important despite each man having their own feud at the moment and this wasn't setting up a PPV match. They pushed the idea of this being bragging right and having momentum going into HIAC.

The video packs for the Punk-Sheamus match were very good. I was surprised. The match was okay; nothing awesome. But for a WWE free TV match, it was very good. I would have liked to had seem Punk hit the GTS after Sheamus hit the "exposed turnbuckle."

So disappointed that Kidd & Gabriel lost. They showed some real chemistry together. They made fluid tags and showed some real energy as a team. They stole the show with their ringwork. Santino & Ryder... were just there. They each did their own thing, but nothing together that made me even think of them as a team. Poor booking, WWE completely missed an opportunity to do something with Kidd & Gabriel.

Miz was great at the table. Willy's right that he needs to be a consistant heel. But otherwise, Miz was spot-on. It really made me think that maybe WWE show consider making this a full-time move.

CM Punk and Sheamus will battle in a 'champion vs champion' match. Now that is something I am going to see. I really think they are going to put some effort on this show, because they have put this as a main event for that show. Although I do believe this type of matches should be held in a flagship shows like 'Raw' or maybe 'SmackDown', but hell, if they do this every week on 'Main Event', I might start watching that as well.

Dark Match:

Johnny Curtis defeated a local wrestler. A boring squash match with lots of taunting the crowd. Decent heat.

WWE Main Event Taping (Airing Wednesday):

Backstage, Josh Matthews interviewed Kofi about the match. Kofi talked about Twitter and how he's going to beat the Miz. Back in the ring, The Miz made his entrance.

Miz cut a promo about bringing relevancy back to the IC title. A video package played covering his title reign. Kofi then made his entrance and we're ready for the match...

Kofi Kingston defeated The Miz to win the Intercontinental Title. *NEW CHAMPION CROWNED*. Kofi won in about 20 minutes. Great back and forth match with lots of near falls.

The Miz was interviewed in the back. He was distraught over losing his title...

Dolph Ziggler defeated Zack Ryder. A decent five minute match.

Dolph cut a promo about how he is the main event and challenged any superstar to a match for next week's show. Ryback obliged to a massive pop. That concludes the Main Event taping.

Kofi winning the IC title is a shocking booking decision.

Ryback overkill. Like he's not on enough shows as it is.

Ryder is back to where he was a couple of years ago. That's jobbing on a nothing show.

From my Writer's Perspective thread - "Well, if he beat Ziggler, that would be credible."

HA!

Also, shit that Miz lost the IC title. I could understand if it was to push him back up the card, but there's no room for him until after the Royal Rumble, so fuck knows what he'll do now.

Yeah from what i read it is a must see match up. Barrett getting the heros reaction was expected but i didnt think Sheamus would get booed the way he did. Again, just what i read but all of Sheamus' offense garnered boos from the English crowd. Classic switch-a-roo.

Barrett has been having some great matches. The sky is the limit whit this guy; once he finds his groove on the mic and looses that stupid "Barrage" talk i think we could see him freight-train to the top and never look back.

Him working with Orton has been a huge plus for him as well. Cant wait to see whats next for Barrett.

Wade Barrett and Sheamus always somehow put on a hell of a match. Barrett improved his in ring ability, and Sheamus was always great in the ring, despite having a completely annoying gimmick.
