Amazes me why they don't send some under-utilised main roster talent to be the veterans/trainers in NXT, guys like Jack Swagger, R-Truth, Johnny Curtis, Tyler Breeze, Curtis Axel etc. This gives them some sort of purpose other than occasional jobbing and will allow guys like Samoa Joe and Bobby Roode who could be huge stars on the main roster to move on up.

I agree about Nakamura though, like Balor was and Zayn prior to him he's the franchise of NXT and they will need someone special to fill the void. Don't see him moving to the main roster anytime soon.

the thing is, even with the draft being part of a Raw show in years gone by, they have had flashes of brilliance, such as the year both top titles went to Smackdown. the shock at the end of the PPV when the fans realised Raw had no top title was great, as was the opening of the next nights Raw where the title came back.

the rest of that run was obviously meh.

but then there's the times they literally shat all over any potential. such as the night Cena was drafted from Raw to Smackdown, and back again. and that was when it was a 2 hour show!

there's also been the issue of the rivalry between the brands. I wrote about this a lot at the time the Bragging Rights PPVs were active, but I'll recap and add some more points now.

firstly, it made no sense to me to have a joint brand PPV that pitted them off just as a platform to launch the console game, when the console game could have been bought forward a month and everything tied into Survivor Series, and event already tailor made for a brand rivalry specific series of matches; two to three traditional elimination matches, one of which being a Divas match if they could scrap together enough tits to fill out the apron as a max of 4 actual female wrestlers worked a 6 minute match. the rest of the card, imo, should have been Champion Vs Champion matches, where equal titles were available. that they did a brand vs brand match (indeed, two matches, and one of them a womens' match) this year shows that someone has an idea of what is the right way to go further down the line.

a draft around this time would have also allowed swapped talent to build a believable feud or partnership. there should be two times a year new talent is bought into the main roster: Mania, and the period just before the lull at the end of the year. this isn't just limited to NXT call ups, but young or returning talent that has taken time away from the company, the kind of talent that already knows the WWE style, or is felt to be able to work the style without having to train it at any other platform.

So apparently a draft is set for some time between Wrestlemania and Summerslam, I'm quite happy about this as I know some are against the idea and think that Raw and Smackdown should retain the current rosters for much longer or even indefinitely but I think some freshening up is needed and there is room for tweaks and improvement on both brands.

Sami Zayn needs to move to Smackdown, lost in the shuffle on Raw and has a better choice of opponents on Smackdown where I'd expect him to be at the very least a high mid-card guy. I would send Miz to Raw, he's had a new lease of life on Smackdown and I think his talents deserve a bigger platform.

Dean Ambrose to Raw and Finn Balor to Smackdown, Ambrose has had his title run on SD and will soon run out of fresh options, on Raw it opens the possibility of a Shield reunion as well as much more. Balor I think will struggle to hold down a top spot on the star heavy Raw, SD will be a much better fit.

The Club to Smackdown Usos to Raw, just to inject a bit of new life in to each tag division.

Wouldn't change too much with the ladies, maybe Emma and Paige to Smackdown and Mickie James and Eva Marie head over to Raw.

Cesaro to Smackdown, Bray Wyatt to Raw, Wyatt is a star babyface in the making when he finally turns, needs to be on the flagship show, Cesaro like Zayn is struggling on Raw and would benefit from a change of scenery.

NXT recruits - Bobby Roode, Shinsuke Nakamura, the Revival and Sanity to Smackdown, Authors of Pain, Tye Dillinger and Elias Samson to Raw.

Finally John Cena to Raw, he's pretty much part time at this point anyway put him on Raw with the other big names that drop in and out through the year and give some new blood the chance to shine on Smackdown.

I don't think we'll see more than a handful of changes each way to be honest.

I could see Roman Reigns and AJ swapping for the main event scene as both will need fresh things to do, even more so if Reigns turns heel, and AJ can flit between whatever is needed anyway.

I agree that Miz & Zayn will probably swap shows too. Miz has been superb on SD, so deserves an opportunity on what is seen as the "Flagship show" A change of show for Zayn will be good for him too.

Tag team wise we may see one of the lesser teams swap shows, so something like Vaudevillains and err who is on Raw haha Golden Truth perhaps?

On the womens front, I believe they need to split to trio of Bayley/Charlotte/Sasha so someone else can get a chance there, so maybe swap one with Natalya or Nikki just to freshen it up a little.

NXT guys will supplement things too, but we'll also no doubt see a few people retiring/moving on too that will help freshen things up.

Latest reports are saying AJ Styles will be the top draft pick moving to Raw.

I can see why they would do this, Styles doesn't really have another year of decent fresh options on Smackdown and with SD beating Raw in the ratings recently WWE are moving it's top star to the flagship show.

Send Styles to Raw and maybe Zayn and Cesaro to Smackdown.

Probably see a swap of Styles and Reigns. Moving Reigns away from the majority of the top guys based on Raw will give him a year of fresh stuff and the chance to try something different with him.

I would be quite happy if they were to do this draft sooner, rather than later.

As Cena's career slows down his imminent heel turn gets closer and closer. It's like waiting for an eruption of a dormant volcano. You know sooner or later it's gonna happen, and when it does, it's gonna be big, but you don't know if it's next week, next year, or when. The only sure thing is that it will happen before he retires from in-ring competition and likely not until after his drawing power as a babyface has waned enough that his merch sales won't be affected much by the turn and maybe even increase due to sales to the smark crowd.

When Cena's heel turn comes, I feel pretty confident it will happen with him on the Raw brand, not on smackdown. Though to be sure, he seems to be turning heel as we speak. The way things are going right now, I would expect Raw to pick Cena this upcoming draft.

Harper & Wyatt will split, probably with Wyatt going to Raw.

AJ Styles will return to Raw as a babyface, and will likely feud with Finn Balor down the road who will remain on Raw.

I HOPE that Ambrose goes to Raw as well and reunites with Rollins and Reigns to also feud with Balor, Gallows & Anderson.

Zayn & Cesaro will both go to Smackdown, as will Samoa Joe.

I expect we'll see Charlotte & Paige & Emma go to smackdown.

Asuka will debut on Raw.

Bobby Roode will debut on Raw.

Natty will be traded to Raw.

The Cruiserweight Division will go to Smackdown and Smackdown will become a 3 hour show to match Raw.

Those are my predictions at least.

I hated the WWE brand split last time and I hate it now. Splitting a Company in half is stupid. No other Wrestling Company does it. It limits match possibilities and we end up seeing feuds dragged on too long and the same old matches over and over. The roster isn't big enough to split it into 2 brands. It means you have to pay to see the whole roster, twice. I like to see all the roster on all shows. I don't wanna watch a show where some of my favourites won't be on it. It's going backwards. It's lazy Booking. It stopped working last time. That's why they ended it. And talent still get buried. They still shove their favourites down our throats. And you should just have 1 Champion in each division, per Company. Having 2 Champions in a division, diminishes both. Ratings and attendances were already falling, but have fallen even worse, since the split. We're seeing the lowest ratings and attendances in 20 years. They only did this to screw us out of more money, to give both of Vince's kids a Boss role on TV, and so they can make John Cena and Roman Reigns Top Dog on each brand. It's time to admit defeat and reunite the brands, again.
