Well it's now been cancelled, and honestly, it's the right call to make, especially since the Saudis have made threats if Trump sanctions them, which if that happens, could eventually lead to war. I've also read very few of the wrestlers, if any, actually want to go perform there with all the shit going on there right now. If that's true, then it's good to see the wrestlers stand up for themselves.

I’ve still yet to see confirmation that it’s been cancelled.

WWE would be hugely out of pocket if they do cancel as the massively lucrative deal with the Saudi’s would probably be out the window and the huge money being paid to guys like Lesnar, Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker would have to come out of WWE’s pocket.

On the plus side if it gets switched to the rumoured Manchester venue I may try and get tickets.

Yeah at this point there's no way it gets cancelled, but rather that the venue will change.

You Brits here stand to benefit from this if the venue does fall through. First PPV since when? SummerSlam 92?

They've announced 2 Raw matches for the World Cup and it seems as though the event is still going ahead. They have arranged a backup arena in case evidence is shown of Saudi government involvement but short of that the show will go on.

Some very level discussion here, particularly Rico's comments are politicians as representatives, not directors. Ultimately, you can't say "the government is pressuring Linda McMahon..." when only a number of individuals in government are. Donald Trump is encouraging the show to continue. He is the top of the tree and a close ally of the McMahon family so they will go unless evidence comes out.

Quote Here is the updated card for WWE Crown Jewel - which at this time is still scheduled to go down on November 2 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The final two qualifiers for the World Cup tournament will be determined tonight on Smackdown 1000 as Rey Mysterio battles Shinsuke Nakamura and Rusev takes on The Miz.
WWE Universal Title Triple Threat Match
Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman vs. Brock Lesnar
    WWE Title Match
    AJ Styles vs. Daniel Bryan
    Tag Team Match
Undertaker & Kane vs. Shawn Michaels & Triple H
    8-Man World Cup Tournament
Featuring: John Cena, Kurt Angle, Seth Rollins, Dolph Ziggler, Randy Orton, Jeff Hardy, Shinsuke Nakamura or Rey Mysterio and Rusev or The Miz.
Miz and Mysterio join the World Cup tournament to find the best in the world, which has no title holders involved, even though those that hold belts are suppose to be currently the best in the world.
Telling on Raw and Smackdown the event was still advertised for the same date, but they never mentioned Saudi Arabia.
I think if it's moved to the UK for logistics with them on the European Tour, they will add at least one female match.

The weird thing is they have replaced one American with another, so it's still every guy from the same country in a so called world tournament.

Quote Lashley and Rush head in to the trainer's office to talk to Baron Corbin, who is being checked on by a trainer. Corbin says Balor is disrespectful and he's glad to see what Lashley did. Corbin says Lashley is one of the best in the world, and he's going to have a chance to prove it, because he officially qualified for the World Cup. Corbin says Lashley will be replacing John Cena.

Big respect to Cena. He's got morals and isn't going to miss the pay cheque by not going.

Rumours that Daniel Bryan will be wrote out tonight too for the exact same reason.

I wouldn't give Cena too much credit just yet. Did he actually make a stand or did he just realise it's going to mean less movie opportunities? Essentially he's waited until it's far too late for any of the full time talent to back out before doing so himself.

Well said. Cena isn't Bryan, he doesn't have principals, he has an image to maintain.

    Cena's shirt says it all.

    Hustle loyalty & respect

Look at the verb in that sentence, hustle. He is hustling everyone that buys into his WWE produced image. The real John Cena is the guy from the Howard Stern interviews, the guy who brags about slumming it with fatties because they do things other women won't.

Cena's been hustling loyalty & respect from fans for 15 years, and to look to the real man as if he is his gimmick is just stupid.

I don't like Bryan Danielson either, but he DOES have principals and if he does step back from Crown Jewel he will be doing it because he believes what he is doing is the right thing to do based on principal not based on what helps maintain his image the most.

Respect to talent for taking the moral high ground over a pay-day but as said in Cena’s case this is likely more about protecting his image in Hollywood.

In honesty Cena is no loss to this event, at this point in his career I have no interest in Cena unless it’s in a big marquee match or to put over a new star. Watching him put in a phoned in performance at the expense of some decent talents like he did at Super Showdown is not something I want to see again.

Bryan on the other hand would be a big loss as it would deprive the event of a dream match so I hope he can be talked around or that him pulling out of the show is just a rumour.
