From Jim Ross Website.............

Quote J.R., when they put the Raw announce table near the entrance earlier in the decade, did they ever give you or anyone else a reason for it? – Jeremy

I never heard a viable reason for the location change, but it sucked to sit next to the pyro and so far away from ringside. I think it was to differentiate the announce teams, as Smackdown stayed at ringside and Raw got moved to the back of the room. It also might have had something to do with Bischoff as the Raw G.M. and the fact that WCW oftentimes had their announcers out in left field… so to speak.

I think it was moved to give Raw more of a WCW feel, whilst Bischoff was in charge. When he went, it made perfect sense to make the desk back to ringside. It should always be at ringside anyway if you ask me. That's where the action is and the announcers should be as close to that as possible, without getting involved. Can't be good being too close to the pyro going off either. Especially when someone like Kane lets off the fire. I'd rather be away from that.
