I am a big fan of British and Japanese wrestling, now we all know that the Japanese have their wrestling well and truly over (in their own country at least) but Britain doesn't, why?

Could be down to more people being interested in millionaires with no heart or passion kicking a ball around for a few hours a week.

Could be down to promoters not thinking long term and not working together in the style of the old NWA territories to help each progress to success.

Could be the fans that are too "Americanised" and want to see what they see when they watch WWE, ROH & TNA.

One think is for certain and that is that we have some of the best wrestlers in the world (in my opinion) right here in Britain so it's not their fault.

What do you think?

By the way don't say British wrestlers signing with US companies helps because it only helps that individual and US wrestlers coming to the UK only helps that one show not the future.

To be honest I don't know what you expect in regards to responses. Professional wrestling is down everywhere, mate, and shows/ promoters can only do their best to put on a great show and advertise it as best as they can. If that doesn't happen, then there isn't really much you can do. People can't be forced to enjoy/ be fans of something, ya know?

Thats just it, in my opinion promoters aren't doing their all to change things

Also no offfense but your in the US so you are really not in the loop on whats going on because promoters don't do a good job of selling their product.

i'm not from the US and i'm of the same exact opinion of HBK.

The promoter can be the best in the world but if someone doesn't like something then they don't like it.

All the 'stars' left for greener pastures (Pac, Doug Williams etc) and English promoters suck.

Seems like every show I see adveritsed here is a bunch of vanilla midgets who don't know how to work, in bootleg WWE gimmicks. Usually 16yr olds in adidas trackies and a vest taking bumps from some 50yr old fat guy pulling a Flair-esque blade job for no reason.

Also fat ass Gangrel is on like, every Brit show, ever.

How many British promotions have TV deals?  Any of them?

I'm just wondering.  Honestly the last time I saw anything labeled as British wrestling on YouTube it was a tag match with Big Daddy in it.

It's a shame all our top guys have to go Stateside to get properly noticed.

There's hundreds of channels that could pick it up. BBC3 is for 18-35 year olds so the Beeb should get involved in the UK wrestling scene and watch the ratings.

We have 2 promotions on TV, on a channel not everybody can get and most people have never heard of.
Sadly it is the promoters fault why british wrestling is where it is not the wrestlers and a little bit the fans.

It's not just the promoter's fault, dude. There are many different factors that go into it, and not all of them are anyone in particular's fault.

I figure your "British wrestling" and "Japanese wrestling" is the exact same thing as "American wrestling", in the most basic form. Most people equate "American wrestling" to WWE and TNA, without recognizing that we have several small indy promotions too. It's not just the big promotions that define our wrestling scene. So your situation isn't as geographically exclusive as you might think.

The fact of the matter is that TNA and WWE are very much dominating the wrestling scene internationally, so the same principle applies to EVERYONE, regardless of where they come from. And even THEY interest in THOSE two companies are struggling, comparatively, right now. Think about it: if interest in them is down, you're surely not expecting interest in independent promotions are going to be anywhere near as high as WWE or TNA?

There could be a promoter who is the absolute messiah of booking and promoting, and he could have some amazing talent on his roster. But I seriously doubt that in this market, that it'll do anything but be the most watched indy fed in the UK. People just aren't into the sport IN GENERAL right now. There's not much someone CAN do about it.
