If that news article was accurate it could mean a match between The Undertaker and Dolph Ziggler at Wrestlemania which could be a classic. Taker would win but WWE should book Ziggler(who would be champ) to win the title back at the next PPV, Taker will never work even close to a full schedule again and therefore can't have a lengthy reign.

Also.....

Quote According to sources, the CM Punk "respect" storyline is based around a future match with The Undertaker. This is expected to be a major angle at some point in 2013.

Possible Wrestlemania match? Perhaps but I would rather see Punk/Ryback at Mania and see The Undertaker face either Ziggler or Brock Lesnar.

Punk vs Taker would be a great match to headline Summerslam, I would like to see Undertaker put Punk over and that won't happen at Mania.

You left him so much choices. Ziggler or Dolph Ziggler, who will he pick?

Taker has a thing (and its fair enough considering all that he's) of only facing guys he knows can keep him safe. Basically he will only face experience guys at Mania.

I highly doubt Ziggler is at that stage yet and should WWE really put Taker in there with an unpredictable Brock Lesnar?

Basically you have Punk, Orton and Cena as the three full time guys that are chances of facing Undertaker. Then you have a couple of special appearances guys.

So true. We all know there's no way he retires with a blemish on that record. Punk/Taker would be awesome, but it couldnt live up to its potential at WM.

As for this year, idk who they have lined up for Undie. I cant say i can see DZ facing him, hes to wrapped up in that breifcase and as you pointed out, its not like Taker needs the title. The miles are windin' down for the deadman.

First, I don't see Undertaker coming back for more than (maybe) 2 more shows. And he's certainly going to stick to only Big 4 shows. Remember McCool just had their baby about 2 months ago. So I'd like to think that Mark Calaway is spending quality time with the baby. Enjoying the time together, and probably realizing what he missed out with his older kids.

Having him show up at Royal Rumble wouldn't be a bad idea. Especially if it means he wins the Rumble. That would add him to the short list of guys that have won more than once. And just to screw with every dirtsheet, Undertaker should then challenge for the Intercontinental Championship at WM 29. Mostly because winning the IC would fill the one void on his resume and finally make him a Grand Slam champ.

But part of me wonders if he won't bother with returning at all. Given his gimmick, I don't think he'd want to do a big retirement announcement. He might prefer to just sort of fade away. 20-0 is a nice number to leave on.

Once he's officially retired, I certainly don't think he'll take a backstage role. He has made outside business investments. So I'd expect him concentrate on those.

Now as far as an opponent for WM 29 goes... I think at this stage Taker gets to picks who he wants to work with and it really doesn't matter what Creative thinks up.

* Brock Lesnar might be a possibilty. Yes, the 2 of them have feuded before. But Lesnar's a big name and certainly facing Taker would draw. (Although there's a rumor that Lesnar quit WWE in 2004 because he was set to be de-pushed starting with lossing a feud against Undertaker.) But I'm still not convinced that Lesnar is fully in wrestling shape.

* The Rock is certainly a big enough star for Taker, and I don't think they've faced each other at WrestleMania before. But that would also require the Rock to lay down. It would also require WWE to give up any notion of having Rock-Cena 2.

* CM Punk has to be considered. He would be a great opponent for Taker, mostly because Punk has a rare talent in the ring... being able to cover mistakes. No matter what goes wrong, Punk knows how to get it back on track. He doesn't hesitate and break rhythm like so many others. Now they had a feud back in 2009. (And according to Dave Meltzer Taker has leigt heat towards Punk.) So this would require both Taker & management to agree that Punk was big enough to face Taker on the big stage.

* John Cena is in the mix too. They had a blink-and-you-missed-it feud in 2003. Cena is the Golden Boy and Taker is the Lord of Darkness. But I question whether Taker would want to work with a guy that still doesn't know how to lock-on his submission finisher.

* Kane. Let's face it, the 2 of them have a ton of history together. Backstage they have the greatest of respect for each other. So whenever Taker is around, Kane is in the discussion.

Now the guys I think that have no chance to face Taker at WM 29.

* Dolph Ziggler. Sure he's talented. But management would need to start a mega-push for him yesterday to get people really amped for this.

* Daniel Bryan. As technically sound as they come. But facing Taker at WM would be a shorter match than Bryan-Sheamus at WM 28.

* Sheamus. Management has spent a lot of time getting the Irish Cena over with the fans. And let's face it, there's nobody that can go against Taker at WM that won't get boo'ed. This might work if Sheamus turned mega-heel.

* Ryback. Not going to happen.

* Randy Orton. Sure Orton wants to go heel. And nothing would cement his heel cred like challenging Taker. But the Legend Killer had his shot. And management doesn't want Orton to go heel (at least until they're convinced Sheamus can carry SD.)

* The Miz. As much as I'd personally love to see Taker swerve and challenge for the IC title... the Miz doesn't have the in-ring skills for this one. Miz needs to be led around the ring, which Taker could do... but Taker has also set a big standard over the last 4 years, and Miz isn't close to that level.

But in his retirement he has no opponent worthy of retiring him, and I don't want to see a guy like Cena doing it.

Earlier this year JTB had a great point about this, Why would Taker turn down a deal that pays him at least 7 figures for roughly 6 weeks worth of work?

He has earned this kind of deal and so long as he doesnt pointlessly bury an up and comer, him coming back to work WM season should be fine.

absolutely, he has earned his contract now, and it is a favour to the fans that he comes back at the biggest show, but a much bigger favour to Vince and WWE.

Mark Calloway brings a boost to the Mania ratings, and it's a centrepiece of the entire weekend.

i agree with Thuns list, but would again ignore anything coming from Meltzer.  i know Taker felt he disrepected the company a few years back when he told Punk about wearing a suit while out, and Punk replied back about Cena not having to, but am sure that has got to have passed by now.
