I havent been keeping up to date w/ MMA goss lately and only just seen Dana's blog on this.

I dont know the workings of US TV (apart from Fox is a big deal of a channel and part owned by Sky God Rupert Murdoch), so I was hoping someone could elaborate on how good this is for UFC to be on Fox?

Fox Broadcasting Company is completely owned by News Corp which is Rupert Murdoch's company.  So Fox is Murdoch's network.

Fox Broadcasting group includes the Fox broadcast network and the cable channels FX, Fuel TV and FoxSportsNet.  All of which are apparently getting some UFC programming in this deal.

A big part of this deal is being recognized by a major broadcaster as a legit sport.  FoxSports carries NFL, MLB, and NASCAR.  They are big sports broadcasting group and this now puts UFC in that top tier of professional sports.  This is the sort of acceptance that Dana White has been longing for.  This move has to do with getting UFC viewed as a mainstream sport.

As far as weekly average ratings go.  FX is normally in the top 20 of all the cable channels, sometimes cracking the Top 10.  Where as Spike struggles to even get registered in the top 25.

Who knows how this might effect international broadcasts...

Cheers Thunny.

Hearing rumours that Fox are looking to get their own commentary on this, which means no Joe Rogan or Mike Goldberg (possible WWE move for MG??)

Also FX will be showing The Ultimate Fighter live.......dunno how thats gonna work out.

Quote From Jim Ross Website

What do I think of the UFC/Fox seven year TV deal? Big win/win for both companies and especially the MMA fans. Fox is a huge upgrade from Spike TV. To be promoted on the same network as the NFL, etc is massive when attempting to reach the male 18-34 demo. I won't over analyze as some have done this week and try to find issues with this deal. I think it's a hit and will help grow the UFC brand significantly. Plus, UFC will maintain control of their production and the booking of the fights. Being on Fox also provides UFC the opportunity to accelerate growth on ancillary income streams. End of the day, fighters should earn more cash if they put themselves in a position to do such. The fighters better hope that the NFL's Roger Goodell doesn't start handling discipline issues. (An attempt at humor.)

A seven year deal is very good indeed. It gives both sides plenty of time to develop and try new ideas.

It's great for UFC that one of the very top channels has given them a chance to broaden their audience.

Spike have lost out here big time, but wouldn't have been able to compete with Fox anyway.

Well.  Spike is a division of MTV Networks.  MTV2 has Bellator... so maybe they might be able to get some stuff from Bellator.  Of course, Bellator sucks.

But up until late last year, FX was trying really hard to land a TV deal with Bellator.  Now FX will end up with UFC shows including the Ultimate Fighter.  It's strange how these sort of things work out.  But Spike just ended up a lot of holes in their schedule.

. HUGE NEWS BROS

Fox are showing just one live fight in an hour special, the prelims will be shown as highlights.

That one fight is Cain Velasquez vs. Junior Dos Santos for the Heavyweight belt..........

They just put a million + $ PPV fight on their Fox debut, amazing.

I heard that it was going to be 2 fights on the one-hour debut show on Fox.  Fox is worried about a boxing PPV that's on that night so they aren't given UFC more than an hour.  Fox says that for the other events they will carry the UFC will get 2-3 hours.

Personally, I think Fox is screwing themselves by not having a full card.  UFC's middleweight and light heavyweight divisions are their strongest and deepest.  Fox will really hate it if this fight ends quickly in the opening round.

UFC is screwing themselves because this match was supposed to main event UFC 139.  This could have been the main event in PPV with a million+ buys.  UFC is gambling that they can get several times that number on Fox.

But what if UFC only gets the 2.5 million viewers that Cops normally draws?  Is that going to be considered a success?

No more Goldberg and Rogan.

Jon Anik from ESPN's MMA live will be the new play by play guy and the UFC is still searching for his partner in the booth.

I like it. Would love to see Bas Rutten and Anik in the booth together. It would truly be like MMA's version of John Madden and Pat Summerall.

Much love to Goldie, but I don't think I'd be too upset if Anik eventually replaced him on PPVs.

I never cared much for Joe Rogan in the booth.  Mike Goldberg was servicable... but nothing special.

Any chance we see Paul Heyman join commentary?  He's more interested in MMA these days anyway.  He's good buddies with Lesnar.
