an intensive few weeks should be more than enough.

to be honest, if i were Dana now, i'd tell Jones to fuck himself and book Sonnen.

whatever negativity might have been against Sonnen prior to this will disappear, and the pop if he won would be immense.

First of all, hopefully this teaches a lesson to the UFC about these fucking one fight pay-per-view cards they've been spewing out lately. I've spouted the past month to friends how shitty this UFC 151 card was despite the main event, and it came back to bite the UFC right in the ass. The chances of injury while training in this sport are too high for them to have shows with only one major fight.

As far as the whole thing about Jon Jones turning down the fight with Chael Sonnen is concerned... it honestly shocked me. As active and as great of a champion Jon Jones has been for the UFC, he's honestly the last person I would have expected this from. It doesn't matter who he's fighting... I'm positive the guy has had a full, fantastic training camp and is better than ever. He should have all the confidence in the World against ANYBODY at 205, let alone against a guy who probably only started training a week ago, if even that.

since thanks to some pleb there's no longer a CM Punk thread in the Wrestlers of the World section, i'll put this here, as it relates:

yes, of course Punk has taken to Twitter to give his opinion on the development.

so, another fight Jones could probably have taken for UFC 151, and he'd probably have still turned that down.

wonder if Vince would have allowed his WWE Champion to have done it, even with knowing that it was highly likely Punk would have lost?

anyhoo, Punk is almost as entertaining as Sonnen right now in this mess.

This is absolutely crazy. IMO if a UFC Champion refuses to defend, he should be stripped of his title and a tournament (of which the "former" champ would be in) should be held to crown a new champ. Jones let the UFC fans down on this one, and it'll be hard to win them back.

Jon Jones vs. Vitor Belfort shouldn't even happen, UFC 152 should feature Sonnen vs. Jones, Belfort isn't much of a match for Jones and with the publicity of what has transpired, a fight against Chael Sonnen would more than make up for the venue loss the UFC had to endure @ UFC 151.

that's the only thing i think he can be "respected" on, that this isn't about the money.

but, at the same time, signing that deal with Nike means he's more than covered for mullah, i just still don't understand him turning down this fight.

i mean, all i'm hearing on FB is that Jones would destroy Sonnen blah blah blah. then why didn't he man up and take the fight. after Sonnen running his mouth against Jones, and particularly if Jones had held off for a day before agreeing, the amount of publicity that Sonnen has created would drive the buyrate up.

it might not be 1.3m, but it would be fucking huge for a one match card.

Absolutely agree, while I understand the need to train for a specific fighter's skill set, Hendo and Sonnen have similar skill sets and a minor adjustment to Jones training would have sufficed. And the revenue would have been great. It also would have prevented Dana White and the whole of UFC from looking like chumps who couldn't pull off a PPV.

Exactly.

And yes, UFC 152 (if they are still calling it that) should now be main evented by Jones vs. Sonnen. Going any other route makes Dana White and UFC management look like bitches. That's now the money match. Jones against anyone else looks like UFC is jerking around the fans.

chael is freaking gold

Chael Sonnen hasn’t stopped taking shot at the UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Earlier this week, UFC 151 was cancelled due to Dan Henderson getting injured and Jon Jones not wanting to fight Chael Sonnen on 8 days notice. It is obvious that Sonnen is still extremely upset at the fact that Jones did not take the fight and is using every means necessary to get his anger out. If you didn’t already know, Chael Sonnen owns a pizza place in his home-town of Oregon. He has thrown up a new special called the “Jon Jones Special Pizza,” that pizza is loaded with chicken and full of cheese. He even throws a jab at Jones’ DUI arrest from back in May, by saying the special comes with a six-pack of beer. Delivery is available to avoid a DUI.
