Jones would stand to lose a lot in that fight while Sonnen has a ton to gain. But why didn't UFC schedule Jones-Sonnen for UFC 152? It's only 3 weeks later, but it would have given Jones time to prepare.

I think it's shitty for Dana White to throw Jones under the bus. The fact that White cancelled the whole show just proves how crappy the card really was. The UFC in general looks crappy. They're bloated with preliminary show talent at the moment. Their top guys seem to struggle to fight once a year now.  Plus the UFC is just running too many shows at the moment. Between UFC on Fox, UFC on FX, UFC on Fuel and PPVs, UFC is trying to put on a big card every week & a half. That big fat RV deal with Fox Broadcasting has already come back to bite them in the ass.

he had 8 days. that's longer than some other fighters have had to prepare for a completely different opponent.

fact is, on all UFC cards, it says "Card subject to change" so fans will know that there migth be changes. that also applies to the actual fighters, they have to be prepared to face a different fighter to who they've been training for. after all, it's not like the new guy will have been training prior to that for a fight with anyone, let alone whoever he was drafted in to face.

Sonnen, as much as i like his promo skills, should not have been pulled into this fight. he's only just moved up to the 205 limit, and this would be his first fight at that level, yet it's for the belt.

yes, White and Zuffa have to take some responsibility for the fact that there were not enough fighters out there that could have been drafted in, but Jones still had some time to train for Sonnen, and has choosen to grow his hair long, bleach his skin white, and run away like a little blonde bitch.

as a champion, it shouldn't matter who he faces, he should be defending his title against all comers, whether he's faced them before and beaten them, or is just unprepared to give a new challenger a chance.

that is awesome, and true.

this isn't wrestling, if you're a champion, you should be a fighting champion, not a whiny bitch.

Jones is already known for being a narcissitic fighter, and this doesn't help his case at all.
Keep in mind that Jones only ended up getting his title shot when he replaced Evans, so what makes him think he is all high and mighty?

If anything, had Jones accepted the fight, I could see it being a bigger draw than if Henderson was in the main event, just based on Sonnen's keen ability of trash talking.

exactly, guaranteed money money.

someone is riding your ass for all this time, surely you should take the chance to beat the shit out of them, especially when you have been intensively training for a while, and he will only have 8 days.

you got any word on why Machida turned down the fight?

all i got from one of the sites was that Miller-Pierson isn't going to go ahead in Toronto due to Miller having medical issues with his son, but they've not sorted a replacement yet for that.

hmm, not sure i'd want to have given up the chance to jump into a title match, even if i only had 8 days to prepare for it, let alone a month...
