So finally caught this the other night via a cheeky download. I enjoyed the first three but often found the clusterfuck of action on the screen too hard to follow and as a big Transformers fan as a kid I didn't like how much they took liberties with the original characters and storys.
The fourth instalment in my opinion is the best of the series to date, partly because they have replaced the highly irritating Shia Lebouf with the vastly better Mark Wahlberg, would have been nice to see a Megan Fox return but they threw in another random hotty to fill the void left by Fox and the blonde from the third film whos name I forget.
This is almost a reboot rather than another sequel and what I imagine will be the first of a new series of Transformers films, it suffers from some of the original problems, ie too much action on screen making it near impossible to follow, the film was also very long which I know is not for everyone. I did like how they made efforts to tell more of a story here explaining the origins of Galvatron and the Dinobots and why the stories didn't match up to the original comic story again they were fairly close and made more sense.
I would have liked to have seen more Autobot characters but I get they only have so much screentime and want to focus on a select few.
Complaints would be that they still have completely changed many of the characters from how I remember them, Galvatron transforms into a truck rather than a cannon and most of the Decepticons turn into cars rather than fighter jets, and I still cannot forgive the fact that Bumblebee is not a Volkswagon Beetle. I get they felt the need to modernise things but some elements of the original characters were classic and that was one.
On the whole though a great film despite the minor flaws.
