Since SBG purchased ROH in May 2011, the company has gone on a spending spree. For ROH this means that their potential TV audience is still growing.

  • September 2011 - Four Points Media, 4 stations for $200 million
  • November 2011 - Freedom Communications, 8 stations for $385 million
  • July 2012 - Newport Television, 6 stations for $412.5 million (SBG was required to sell off 2 of their smaller stations due to FCC regulations)
  • July 2012 - Bay Television, 1 station for $40 million
  • February 2013 - Cox Media Group, 4 stations for $99 million
  • February 2013 - Barrington Broadcasting, 18 stations for $370 million
  • April 2013 - "Merger" announced with Fisher Communications, 20 stations for $373 million (there's a lawsuit pending by some Fisher investors)
  • June 2013 - Titan TV Broadcast Group, 4 stations for $115 million (SBG will also manage/program 2 addition stations TTBG co-owned)
  • July 2013 - Allbritton Communications, 8 stations for $985 million

The last few purchases are still pending FCC final approval. But if all get clearance, SBG will own/operation 149 stations. And they will cover 35% of US households. They have also been picking up stations in larger markets. The latest deal puts them in Washington DC, Tulsa, Little Rock and Charleston, South Carolina.

I wonder if anyone in SBG upper management will ever decide to get behind ROH. The company has the money to make ROH into a big time promotion. But luckily for TNA, nobody with any pull in SBG is wild for ROH.

Sinclair now claims they reach 26% of the all US television markets. They bought out some smaller group and have added 7 stations to their company this year.  Now they have a couple of small stations in Utah (I'm sure the Mormons have been itching for ROH.)  A channel in Austin, Texas and one in Rhode Island.  And 3 stations in Florida.  (I wonder if they will show ROH on their Spanish language affiliate in West Palm Beach?)  There's huge gaps in their market.  Still nothing in California at all.

My wife worked at a Sinclair owned station.  They seem to like dealing with Fox and a majority of their stations are Fox affiliates.  By they also have a ton of MyTV affilates and those don't bring in the ratings like a Big 4.  MyTV isn't offering any new programming so most of those affiliates are digital sub-channels of Big 4 (& CW) stations.

Sinclair sort of has a history of growing in herky-jerky spurts.  They would buy up a block of stations within a year.  And then wait for several years to expand again.  Their last expansion was back in 2000-2001, they bought up 12 stations.  This is their first expansion since then.

Some "Well obviously" news involving ROH's parent company Sinclair

Quote During Sinclair Broadcasting's fourth-quarter earnings, the company indicated that it might look to acquire more televisaion stations. President/CEO David Smith said, "If we see opportunities to go after acquisitions, then we'll certainly consider them the same way we considered Freedom and Four Points. We're prepared to get bigger if need be - if we see the benefit of leverage associated with it."

The company could reportedly be looking for "Big Four" affiliates--aka CBS, ABC, NBC and Fox--in mid-sized markets.

This goes without saying since Sinclair has pretty shitty TV market shares as it is with only 22% US coverage in mostly low population areas.

All this effects ROH since they hitched their company to Sinclair's wagon and Sinclair's growth will be vital in ROH's growth.

I think about this deal with Sinclair... the more I think they are going to have to look at syndicating a week show.   There are individual CW and MyTV stations that would love to get something to hopefully recapture the numbers that SmackDown used to bring to them.  Remember SD was the top young male demo grabber for both CW & MyTV.

Hope so too Adders.  The debut Taping happens to be on my Birthday so that is pretty cool.  Think I will see the first one, but if you have to pay for it each time then I don't know about that, but with a bit of luck the show will find its way onto a UK Channel before too long.  Summerslam and this over two days, cool weekend for wrestling fans!
Lifes what you make it.

I choose to out think people, who are too dumb and pick on the rich.

Quote From Jim Ross Website

Do I think that ROH will adversely affect TNA once ROH begins airing their weekly, syndicated TV show? Likely not. Wrestling fans have proven over time that if multiple brands are compelling enough that they will watch. While my focus is on WWE, I am a fan of the genre and wish success to whoever is earning a living in it.

ROH don't need to be worrying about anything other than what they themselves do.

I'll likely download the weekly show when it starts and give it a chance.

Hopefully a few more will, ROH will get a few more regular viewers on here and this section will get a bit busier.

I'm not keen on the show being buried in the late night hours.  But that's what DVR is for.

If this is the case (streaming it online) I will be less mad at them and they can suck my dick rather than ass for not broadcasting in O-Town stations.
