I watched Impact for the first time in years this week and have to be honest I actually quite enjoyed a lot of it.

Cody Rhodes as a heel was decent stuff showing he's pretty good on the mic, he started a feud with Moose it seems.

The Broken Hardys while totally ridiculous are entertaining, they continue their quest for tag team domination.

Lashley as champion is feuding with Josh Barnett a UFC guy turned wrestler, they have a match for the title next week which should be interesting.

The show ended with Braxton Sutter in a typical wrestling wedding, a complete circus that turned into mass chaos, Mike Bennett, Robbie E, Aaron Rex and Rockstar Spud were also there.

Considering guys like ECIII and Drew Galloway didn't feature on this episode I still found it very watchable, might give it another look next week.

With the new management perhaps we can see TNA rebuild and put together a half decent roster and product. They have a fair bit of quality there and with a few more signings to pad out the roster they could have a pretty good show. I liked that it's far more adult themed than WWE and it's more of a TV show with wrestling thrown in. Hopefully TNA can get some working relationships going with groups like GFW and ROH.

Impact Wrestling essentially relaunched their brand under new ownership and management plus an influx of new talents Thursday night on POP TV to more interest than the maligned brand has experienced in recent memory. Not surprisingly, there is ample work to do regarding rebuilding this band but it seems that Impact is off to a optimistic start. No one can intelligently declare a big win or a big fail for Impact off one show as one can expect significant tweaks to be made in the future.

I'm in favor of Impact enacting any positive changes that they feel is necessary and applaud them for attempting new things with new people. I hope that their three man announce team will work for them but it was too busy for my taste on Thursday night. I have reason for optimism for Josh Mathews new, antagonist role but the 'heel' doesn't need to be doing play by play.  Too much bickering is distracting at times and talking about matters not directly connected to the video that the viewers are seeing can easily be a disconnect.

I also hope that Impact will move on from bashing the previous regime and use their valuable TV time to better build the talents and Impact titles plus the personal issues that develop. I'd also expect that moving forward Impact mentions of WWE will subside as that matter has no up side. Going forward I would suggest making the in ring talk more succinct an therefore memorable plus there are enough talents on the roster to provide some outstanding in ring product of which there wasn't enough of Thursday night.

Nonetheless I am pulling for Impact Wrestling to became profitable and popular but these developments won't come overnight and not without a crazy workload for all involved....and a little luck.

The company change their name to Impact Wrestling which should be a fresh start, but they continue their old ways of bashing former talent and rivals.

Now they go a step further copying E with the three man booth. I wish they would stick to two.

People will have to be patient with the company as they have lost a lot of talent lately so need to build up new stars, which can't be done overnight.

As soon as it comes on Spike here i'll start recording it to watch it haha. Knowing that it's still currently booked like 6 weeks in advance hurts the product so I shall see what it's like when it airs end of April.

Yeah it's booked far too in advance. They should go back to being live weekly if they are serious.

  • MariahCareyLover Asks: Hey JR. Did you get a chance to see the first IMPACT under new ownership? It was everything people say is bad about WWE turned up too a BILLION. Jeremy Borash and Josh Mathews screaming at each other destroying the matches, the onesthey stayed quiet on were so over booked it reached almost comical, making EC3 look like an idiot and whenever somebody had a mic in their hand all they did was manure on all the wrestlers that were there pre new owners. Don't even get me started on the idiotic way they wrote out The Hardys.
    J.R.'s Answer:

I assume that you don't read my blogs here on the site because I covered my thoughts on Impact there.

Commentators should never be in a fued against eachother. Bickering over matches help nobody.

EC3 should continue to be made to look an idiot so he decides to not sign up for longer, so he can go back to E.
