From Jim Ross Website...........

Quote Hey JR! I couldn't seem to find my question so I'll rewrite it. I am a broadcasting major and I'd really like to pursue a play by play commentators job. How did you start and what might be some advice to what to do in order to get into the biz? Maybe even the WWE someday? Thank you

Get all the experience in every form of broadcasting that you can muster. Work for free if necessary. Practice and then practice some more. Get a body of work to some degree on a reel (DVD) and approach WWE's Human Resources department when you have had a few years of experience.

* Working for free is the big one there. It shows you aren't all about the money and that you really are interested in what you are doing.

* A reel DVD is a bad idea because anybody can put together a decent DVD of someone with clever editing.

* I'd say sounding interesting is important as well because you don't want the viewers to fall asleep.

Being a commentator sounds like fun for a while but I couldn't imagine doing it as a career

I always wanted to do those "Call a WWE Match" at Axxess.
WrestleMania or Axxess never make it to my neck of the woods though.

I'd be quite interested with Commentating, i do a bit for the hockey teams at school.

I wouldn't go with WWE, though you only have to look at how they set theres up.

If my choices came to this, if I even decided to try commentating full-time...I would like to commentate for CZW or ROH.

I think calling CZW would be a playday! lol. Their guys do flips, and put on fairly good tech matches, and then some bleed..a lot!

ROH, is just ROH. There is nothing like it, and would love to call all of the great matches that get put on there, not to mention the funny stuff (Cabaana killing a wasp...Necro eating it...crowd chants, etc)

If I was to do commentating, I'd prob be what Lawler does, colour commentate, as I don't really know the moves, lol, I know the basics like a DDT, hurricanrana and the finishers and then theres some I wouldn't be able to call, hell I'd hate to be a play-by-play like JR and Cole because that shit would be hard.

Joey had alot of balls though when he did it, but then ECW (or TNN) added Joel Gertner and Cyrus to the announce booth which I think made it easier for Joey, but in all, what Joey did took alot of balls because you look around I doubt any promotion would be game enough, hell nobody would be game enough to call one show all by themselves.
