He's always seemed to be a fairly private guy but it must be nice to be free of the restraints of The Undertaker character at last after years of having to remain out of the public eye to maintain the mystique of the gimmick.

I agree with Admin though a autobiography detailing his life and career would be quite a read.

I see people are already suggesting he will wrestle again but I think he's done. Mark Callaway respects the business too much to do a fake retirement. As much as I'm a fan of his I hope he's really calling it quits in the ring, you could tell the mounting injuries and his age were starting to hamper his performances, far better to go out while still able to pull together a half decent match, plus his post match retirement and tributes that have flooded in since have been moving and fitting of his great career.

Ohh yes Im sure if or when they want him in the hall of fame, he will keep it respectful and appear as himself. I bet the bong will hit and the lights will go out, but thats only to be expected.

Who should induct him then ? Vince, Hbk, Austin, Kane, Mick Foley ? etc.

Kane. Its gotta be Kane. There is really no one more appropriate to induct him than his nemesis and tag partner. Their careers are more than intertwined with each other than anyone else alive (R.I.P. Paul Bearer).

In a recent episode of his podcast (transcript credit wrestlinginc.com), Bruce Prichard talked about the early years of the Undertaker, and if he thinks he’ll wrestle again…

On Paul Bearer Came to Manage Undertaker: “I had been managing Undertaker. I was given the opportunity… I also worked behind-the-scenes, d’uh, and Vince came to me and said, ‘I’m going to give you a choice: you can either work in front of the camera and be Undertaker’s manager, full-time,’ because the package of Undertaker at house shows, it wasn’t the same without a manager, and if I did that, I would have to give up my job behind-the-scenes, producing television. I chose producing television and we were looking for someone to manage Undertaker and take my place. Percy Pringle had inquired about working, so they brought Percy up just for a general interview to say, ‘hey, what would you like to do?’ and they said, ‘what have you done in the past?’ Percy said, ‘well, I’m a licensed mortician,’ and everybody popped because ‘oh my God, we’re looking for someone to manage The Undertaker and Paul Bearer was born.”

On Using Bodybags Early In The Gimmick: “I want to say [the bodybag gimmick] was Paul Bearer’s [idea] because it was easy and it had never been done before. And it was something that could be done…. see, this is the other thing people forget a lot: it was something that could be done with everybody. The whole idea behind the bodybag was it was so much easier than trying to get a casket every night and having to deal with caskets, so the bodybag was something Paul Bearer and the ring crew, they could buy a bunch of bodybags, Paul could get a discount on them because he was actually a mortician.” Prichard recalled, “you couldn’t just go buy a casket. It was illegal, so we had to use Paul Bearer’s mortician license and pull some strings to get people to actually sell us a casket.”

On early talk of Turning Undertaker Face: “It’s funny, back in 1990, we went to the gym one day. It was myself, Vince, and The Undertaker. And I was playing AC/DC’s ‘Hells Bells’ and I was explaining to Vince that I wanted to do a video, ‘we’ve got to get the rights to this song and do a video for The Undertaker.’ He looked at me, ‘Goddamn, pal, that’ll make him a babyface. I’ve got plenty of years as a nasty heel before I turn him and what a babyface he’ll make.’ And we all kind of chuckled, thinking, ‘how in the f–k do you make this big, ugly bastard a babyface?’ But then, as time went on, and you started listening to the crowd, boy, they loved him. It did not take long for the audience to turn The Undertaker babyface.”

On Undertaker’s WM 33 Exit & If He’ll Wrestle Again: “I thought it was apropos and I cried like a b—h. It was a nice ending of a chapter if you ask me, but I don’t think it’s over.” Prichard continued, “eventually, yes, I do [think Undertaker will wrestle again]. I’m saying short of being wheeled down to the ring in a wheelchair, that we’ve not seen the last of The Undertaker in the ring. Now, he would argue with me on that and say ‘no, that’s it,’ but you never say ‘never’ in this business and The Undertaker and that character will live on forever and I think he could still go out and have a match. It may not be what it was 25 years ago, but by God, he’ll go out and the people will be behind him just as much as they ever were.

I think Taker loves the business and isn't the type to come back from his Mania exit.

He doesn't seem the kind of bloke that would return and use some cheap excuse like I never said I was retiring, you all assumed etc.

Sad as it sounds, he can't go in the ring anymore so needs to stop.

Yes I agree and while its sad to think this star wont be in the ring anymore and wont be making those amazing entrances anymore... lets look at this for the best eh.
Nobody was better than Taker for me, because I am/was a fan of his, but I dont want to see him come back and struggle because of age etc. That would ruin it for us all wouldnt it, so lets leave it as it stands.

All good things must come to an end. IMO I felt the time to retire was after his second match with Triple H.

Besides. Wyatt is doing a pretty great job of carrying on that gimmick/entrance combo while not feeling like an Undertaker knockoff. I fully expect in another 20 years people will be talking about Wyatt the way we talk about Taker.

Yes Rico I could go back to when he was unbeaten, and when the streak was still in tact.
What exactly did Taker achieve by coming back after the loss to Lesnar (and we can argue all day long about his loss in that match) ?
Hindsight is ace and we can all use it and look back on it.... but I really wish the WWF could have shown him the respect he deserved and left his unbeaten streak as it was.
After losing it to Lesnar, Im not sure what the point was in him scraping through two more Mania's again.

Losing to Wyatt instead would have served a purpose. Lesnar... Lesnar would have worked fine had Lesnar lost to Dean Ambrose at mania. The street fight should have been Ambrose' great equalizer. No Maybe Ambrose couldn't out-wrestle Lesnar, but he could beat the shit out of him with a baseball bat, or the like. The person that beat Lesnar should have been built up big, but the whole thing has just run flat and boring.

As for Undertaker, losing to Wyatt could have been seen as a passing of the torch, and would have been appropriate.

On the other hand, had Taker lost to Wyatt, I wonder if the fans would have turned on Wyatt and given him the Roman Reigns treatment?

Im still not sure where this appalling heat towards Reigns comes from ?
Hes not done anything to deserve it so obviously, they have got to use it against him as the ultimate heel havent they ?
