The Undertaker vs. Goldberg Among Big Matches Set for WWE Super ShowDown

The Saudi General Sports Authority in partnership with WWE will host an event at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Friday, June 7 at 8 pm AST.

On Monday, WWE confirmed that a 50-Man Battle Royal, The Undertaker vs. Goldberg and Triple H vs. Randy Orton will take place at WWE Super ShowDown.

So it's happening about 10-15 years too late but this is still a huge attraction, smart of WWE to book it on what seems to be a nostalgia filled event rather than a major PPV like Wrestlemania. The Saudis are obviously paying top dollar and demanding some big names on the card.

I'll be interested to see how this match is booked, Goldberg surely wont squash The Undertaker in less than 2 minutes but this match I cant see running more than 8-10 minutes max. Taker isn't in his prime anymore either and will probably only want to do a fairly short match.

Both entrances will take longer separately than the entire match.

It shouldn't be happening. It should have happened 15 years ago and now both are way past their best days.

I suspect Undertaker will win. Top E guy beating top WCW guy, to keep him sweet after issues lately such as Starrcade and because the Saudis paying vast cash to have the matches they want will probably insist on it because they grew up watching WWF.

It wont be the match it could have been 15-20 years ago but I still think if laid out right these two can tell a good story in the ring.

I personally enjoy matches like this a lot more than much of what the current roster do, ok it wont be a 30 minute fast paced spotfest like Rollins vs AJ will be but this match will have a big fight aura and will be worth seeing just for the spectacle of it alone.

I really enjoyed Goldberg vs Lesnar at Wrestlemania a couple of years back, if he can produce similar quality with The Undertaker then I will be happy.

This is about what you'd expect from the Saudi shows I guess. It sounds fantastic, 20 years ago.

Regardless, I'd still want to see it.

Up until about 10 years ago I was still pushing for a Kliq Fatal Fourway at WrestleMania. Hall vs Nash vs HBK vs HHH would have been amazing in their prime. Now? Not so much... but I betcha we might see it at a Saudi event.

And I would be excited to see that fourway match if it happened today, even with all involved being way past their prime.

I'm all for these Saudi nostalgia shows, reason being it's always nice to see some of my past favourites but also I'm a fan of old school wrestling, I don't like how today everything is so scripted with talent not selling anything or telling a story because they are just trying to remember how to get from one spot to another. I much preferred it when talent would improvise much of what they did and would tell a story and listen to the crowd.

Fact is neither Hulk Hogan or The Ultimate Warrior were great technical wrestlers, far from it, but their Wrestlemania 6 match is still one of my favourite matches of all time.

Quote The lights go out and The Undertaker comes out to the ring. The crowd chants Undertaker's name and he gets on the mic. He asks if you ever wonder what happens when you come face to face with death for the first time. He says Goldberg will have the answer to that question this Friday, when he stands across the ring from him for the first time. Taker says he doesn't want Goldberg the family man, he wants Goldberg the unstoppable mythical icon. Taker says that at Super ShowDown, he will claim Goldberg's soul for all of eternity. He finishes with "Goldberg: you're next."

It was a poor promo with Undertaker basically same his same old tired lines.

He was cut off at the end of Raw very quickly and bluntly too like they had run out of air time.

The best part of all this will be their lyric free dramatic ring entrance themes.

I havent watched any of this build up but this is basically the match to get the fans in - the star power match.

It wont be spectacular as both guys are way past their best but i guess the crowds would rush in to see these guys go 1 on 1

I love this as it's two of my old favourites going one on one for the first time ever. Obviously it won't be the match it could have been 20 years ago but it'll still be a spectacle and I think these two will work hard to make sure it's at least a watchable match. Goldberg's Wrestlemania match with Lesnar was pretty decent so I reckon they can put together something worth seeing here.

The beauty of these Saudi shows is they are a bit of a spin off from the regular programming and current storylines so WWE are able to book these nostalgic attraction matches using just minimal build up on TV, I really quite like it the less is more approach is fine, all that's really needed is a couple of appearances from the talents to hype the match and mix that up with some nice nostalgic video packages and it's a winning formula.

Its actually this kind of stuff that WWE is very good at.

Goldberg has apologised on social media for the match finish, he knocked himself out when he collided with the ring post so that cut must have been done hard way, despite being concussed he wanted to finish the match but was too groggy to carry out the finishing sequences which explains the botched jackhammer and tombstone, The Undertaker who was noticeably pissed off after the pinfall probably called a audible for the chokeslam finish.

A real shame, considering the ages of the two guys and their limitations at this stage I thought the match was actually a pretty good effort but sadly it'll be remembered for the botched finish.

Goldberg does appear to be a bit snakebit in WWE, the horrible match with Lesnar at Wrestlemania 20 and now this. I do question how sensible WWE management were having this main event though, two guys in their fifties who I dont think have wrestled more than 10 matches combined in the last 5 years, one of who is known for only doing very short matches, wrestling against each other in 100 degree heat.

Yeah the match was surprisingly good up until Goldberg got messed up. It's a real shame.
