I mark out for this guy and many of you will bash me for it LOL He had a stupid Justin Hawk Bradshaw gimmick and got out of it. He got a Blackjacks gimmick which was crap and got out of it. APA were an entertaining tag team. They didn't get noticed that much because they were in the TLC era. But they always got a pop from fans. I was sceptical of him being put in the main event and getting the title. But after so many leaving or letting down Vince then why not give a loyal company guy a chance ? I would look forward to pay per views to see what happens to him the next time. He use to take some proper beatings in all sort of gimmick matches. He played the cowardly heel well and his promos have been good for the past couple of years. Main reason being a top heel is suppose to be booed (not top face like Cena). And our wrestling god knows how to have the crowd against him properly, which is something even a heel HHH never got. He's had his fair share of comedy moments through the years which even the haters would have laughed to. Now he is fitting into the commentary role much better then the stale Tazz did. This will be a long term role because he is happy never wrestling again. He makes his money through stocks and shares and got a wife he can spend more time with. Good for him letting his injuries heel properly and living the good life off his huge wage packet.

I agree, JBL is the best thing to happen to Smackdown! in a long time.
I am just very sad that I may not see my wrestling god ever wrestle again!
I was oping for a JBL/Kennedy fued, JBL/King Booker fued, or even a JBL/DiBiase dream match as wrestlemania.
Hopefully JBL will put the boots back on a couple more times before he retires. Wait...is he even retiring?
I think if JBL isn't going to wrestle anymore, he should stick with the commentary job AND become a manager.

Quote John Bradshaw Layfield noted in a recent commentary on TheStreet.com that he was retiring from in-ring competition for good. In his final column on the website, JBL wrote, "I have also come to believe that you can't fight father time. A broken back suffered in a match in England, compounded by a herniated and bulged disc, finally made me realize my career as a professional wrestler was over. I since migrated to the color commentary position much in the way that Jesse Ventura did before me."

JBL was injured shortly after WrestleMania, during the overseas trip of Europe in late April. Despite his injury, JBL continued to wrestle and he had successfully politicked himself to beat Rey Mysterio for the World title at the Judgement Day PPV. The plan was for him to be the first person to be the World Champ and the U.S. champ at the same time. However, on the week of the PPV, he sensed that that he couldn't wrestle any longer. He told management that he needed to take the summer off due to the pain and injury. He lost the PPV match, then two days later at Smackdown taping, he lost the U.S. title in quick match to Bobby Lashley. During the same show, he vowed to leave SmackDown if he didn't beat Rey Mysterio for the title later that night. He lost the match and then he went on to his announcing role in June.

I wonder if he will be a wrestler who actually does what he says and stays retired. I reckon it's more likely with him then others because of his many outside distractions. He probably makes more money on the stock exchange anyway without getting beat up in a ring and all the travelling that goes with it. I will not take responsibility for his career ending in my lovely homeland. Dunno how he could wrestle with a broken back plus two more injuries. I was hoping he wouldn't be a one time wonder with the belt. Shame that it looks like he will never get another chance with it.

JBL has quickly become my favorite color commentator. He's one of the biggest reasons I can tolerate Smackdown. (And, yes, sometimes I wish he would b*tch slap Michael Cole every time he has an audio episode of "man love" over one of the baby faces).

I ain't afraid of you! You're nothing but a lizard on steroids! You're like Barry Bonds; I bet you play baseball! See, all these Japanese people - look at me! All these Japanese people; they scared of you. They run around with their cameras, and they own the subway; they eat noodles. I ain't afraid of you; you're nothing but a Tyrannosaurus. You're a lizard. You're like Big Show - he's a dinosaur; his name's Barney. He eats pizza. You eat pizza? JBL stands for Just Beat a Lizard. I ain't afraid - what are you looking at? What are you looking at? I ain't scared of you; I'm the WWE Champion. I ain't afraid of you; I'll beat you like I'll beat Big Show. I'm - I'm - WWE Champion. Big Show is just like you - he weighs four hundred and ninety thousand pounds. He eats pizza. I ain't afraid of you. Quit looking at me! I'm telling you, dinosaur, I want to beat you up! I'm gonna do this just like I'll do Big Show. I'll slap you in the face and you won't do nothing about it, see? You're afraid of me; you're afraid of me and you're scared. Just like the Big Show; I'm gonna slap him in the face too, 'cause I ain't scared of him none either - I ain't scared of nobody! So fight me! I said put up your dukes, dragon! I ain't afraid of you!

JBL to Cole: You need to go home and apologize to your parents for not being a man.

.....
Michael Cole: Its been a rough couple of weeks for the Miz. First the Undertaker. Then Kane. Now Chris Benoit.

JBL: When you wake up one morning, look in the mirror and release that you're the Miz... That's a rough couple of weeks.

What a great way to bump the thread about our wrestling god. The first video was very good and you can see plenty of effort went into making it. JBL is the best in the business when it comes to wisecracks. He shows that nobody be it heel or face are safe from a rant by him. I do hope he wrestles more regularly in the future. However i respect his decision if he decides not to. Many people saw his title run as a joke and didn't like it. I though loved it and thought he came across like a heel champion should do.

jbl is without a doubt one of the most funniest guys in the business today and he certainly can throw out a good one-liner here and there.

What a piss poor post. Anyway from the website of Jim Ross.........

Quote How would I evaluate JBL’s Title Reign? Successful and probably pleasantly surprising. John over achieved by working really hard and by being physical, and along the way he became extremely proficient on the mic. JBL could talk ‘em into their seats which is becoming a lost art form. John was one of my hires who out performed what he was projected to do by many insiders. I am proud of John even though he is a Longhorn at heart.

Agree with everything he says. When the belt went onto him, so many people were against it and didn't like the idea. How many of the same people were eating their own words come the end of his reign ? A hell of a lot more people that's how many. He played the perfect heel champion fodder for the face challenger. He would take a beating and sneak a victory. That is what a good heel can do as champion. I loved when he had the party on Smackdown for retaining the belt. How much that rubs salt into the wounds of the face fans lol. His mic skills are great to the point he can have you cheering him and booing him and laughing at him, in less than a minute.

JBL was obviously not the best wrestler, but he did work extremely hard as Jim Ross pointed out. To this day, I believe JBL was the guy who helped john cena develop as that babyface champion, I mean take a look at that I quit match Cena and JBL had at judgment Day 2005. JBL really put Cena over in that match.

Also the guy as champion, could get tons of  Heel heat. Ok, some of the things he did may of been questionable but nontheless he could get tons of heat after being on that mic after only 1 min on the microphone.

As for Commentator, He in my opinion is the best out there right now. He has also helped Michael Cole in prove becuase I don't really think Taz and cole had that much chemistry as JBL does with Cole.
