So the draft got underway on Smackdown this week.
The Fiend is headed to Smackdown, I half expected this as Wyatt is the most over talent in the company right now with a ton of marketability so it stands to reason he'll be on the A show. SD also gained Braun Strowman and kept Roman Reigns. I'm guessing Braun moving over is partly so his angle with Tyson Fury can be part of the Fox show. Raw got Drew McIntyre, AJ Styles, Randy Orton, Bobby Lashley and Kevin Owens amongst others so far, so while Smackdown seems to have the star power Raw is doing well and moving KO was smart so he can start somewhere fresh with his new babyface character. Will be interesting to see where Seth Rollins ends up as I expected his feud with Wyatt to continue for one more match at least, maybe that will happen on Raw? Personally I think Seth is damaged as a face and should be turned heel, they can easily push any from McIntyre, Orton, Styles, Owens or Joe as top babyfaces on Raw.

Soooo disappointing this exists. I was so hoping they'd come to their senses and end this show split thing with the move to Fox.

The draft was awful. Why wasn't everyone available from the start instead of splitting the whole roster over two nights?
You could have still had a two night draft and it would have stopped mistakes happening such as Heavy Machinery being drafted when they weren't available to be drafted according to the on screen graphic that kept being shown. Why were Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross drafted separately to the same show when it was known that a tag team can be transfered together if the show wants both? Why were OC allowed to be one pick when they are a faction not a tag team? More bending of the stupid draft rules that had no logic.

The draft concluded on Raw. I thought this was really well executed, it was done as a more legit sports style draft having the Networks fighting over talent felt more real as in the past having the general managers compete for talent with no real reason to do so other than ego didn't make a lot of sense.
People complained about many of the drafts just being talent staying on the brand they were already on, well this was fine as this was designed to be building the two rosters from scratch again and in any rate what with the wild card rule I think most including me had forgotten which brand most talents were actually assigned to. Not sure if the new rosters will kick in from Smackdown or after Crown Jewel as several cross branded matches are set for that show. The most notable changes were Bray Wyatt, Braun Strowman, Brock Lesnar, King Corbin and Sasha Banks to Smackdown, while Raw got Alistair Black, Rusev, Charlotte and Andrade. Think everyone else of note stayed where they were. Smackdown got more star power but Raw still have a very strong roster and now have a opportunity to push the likes of Rusev, Samoa Joe and Alistair Black as top stars. The only NXT draftee so far was the Street Profits to Raw, not sure if NXT call-ups will happen post-draft perhaps. What is interesting is Raw got the far better Women's roster by far, Smackdown only really got Sasha, Bayley and Carmella. Maybe the plan is to have less emphasis on Womens's wrestling on SD unless they are going to pad things out with some NXT ladies. Will be interesting to see where Ronda Rousey winds up, you would expect Fox to want her on Smackdown but her best opponents are definitely on Raw. |

Yesterday I watched both Smackdown and Raw to catch the draft in one go. I can't say I was especially interested in any of it. Really I am not very interested in any of it. Quite frankly I'm rather bored with Raw & Smackdown atm. I watched some of the women's division stuff, but Wyatt vs Rollins doesn't interest me, and pretty much nothing else outside of Lesnar vs Velasquez at mania interests me and that's still a long ways off so they won't be developing much on that until at least the Royal Rumble.
As far as I'm concerned WWE is just in the shitter. |
