Teenage Alien Ninja Turtles doesn't have the same ring to it

I want this to be a good Movie, However I have a feeling it will be bollocks.

I so Hope my gut instinct is wrong because you need to have a special kind of awful to Fuck up a TMNT flick

Well, apparently they´re not aliens anymore or something of the sort?

yeah, Bay and Eastman backtracked on that last year, when the full title of the film was just going to be Ninja Turtles.

the stills I have seen do look quite good, the one-sheet looks a bit OTT, and Paramount didn't help themselves with the Twitter feed about its September 11th release date...

as far as I know, that's the date for it's Australian release, but a major boob by the PR department.

My most prominent major gripe is that they got Leonardos weapons wrong. In every incarnation so far, Leonardo fights with two Ninjato Swords, which are shorter than the Katana Swords in the new adaptation and most importantly, a bit broader and straight, so they can withstand stronger impacts. It even makes sense backstory wise, since a trained Ninja would use Ninjato, obvs.

I know, it´s a minor detail for most, but stuff like that just bugs me.

Steven that idiocy! I'm a Star Wars freak and if they changed Darth Vader's lightsaber to chartreuse I wouldn't give two shits!

I´m a Star Wars fan too, and if they did that, it would piss me off too. Sorry, I love the little details that let you know they really cared about their source material.

For instance, I loved the fact that they stuck with the same model of cars, pistols, fuck, even glasses in Sin City, I love that they showed a glimpse of the winged helmet in Thor 1, even if Thor never actually wore it again during the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe run, but it´s there and I love that. Those details are actually the things I remember mostly about films and make films stand out to me. So if you find that to be idiocy, that is your opinion, and while i accept it as such, i sincerely hope you´re not in the majority.

well, a $65m opening weekend, and that confirms they will make a sequel.

it occurs to me that they cannot have had that much faith in this movie to not have released it worldwide. it feels like the kind of scheduling that, while the norm before the net really took off, is the kind of thing that is done now so that in the overseas markets allows them to release a film straight to DVD.

Soooooo..... I watched the new TMNT today. I was... skeptic before and am still kind of split. Yes, it still somehow feels like the Turtles, even though it doesn´t look like them. The Shredder Armor was a bit... eeeh... looked way too bulky compared to how the guy moved with it.

The Origin Story was actually a nice way of explaining how the Turtles and Splinter came to be, the only gripe I have with it is the fact that there is now absolutely no connection between Splinter and Shredder. (As a reminder, in some iterations, Splinter was originally Hamato Yoshi and a clan-brother of Oroku Saki aka The Shredder. In others, Splinter was Hamato Yoshi´s pet rat.) It also kind of robs Splinter of his japanese connection, since he now didn´t learn Ninjitsu from being taught it as a kid (Hamato Yoshi iterations) or watching Hamato Yoshi train (pet rat iterations) - now, he learned it from a book that got washed down the sewers.

The films story in itself is not too shabby. Also, I find it kinda nice that the makers added so many easter eggs to the originals (Like one main villain stating that the only remnants of the mutagen and made the Turtles now "oozes" through their veins - the original turtles were mutated by a substance called ooze.)

Well, in general I was not blown away by the movie but I expected worse. I hear that they have a sequel already planned for a 2016 release, which will feature more villains like Bebop and Rocksteady. Maybe they also treat Karai to a larger role... now she was basically demoted to shouting orders and getting her ass kicked.

Oh, I still have some gripes with the fact that Leo´s Swords are wrong (he doesn´t wield Katana, ffs. He wields Ninjato. Big difference). BUT, I think I can overlook that. maybe.

finally got to see it.

twas a mess. passable, so I understand why a sequel is in the works, but still just the usual Bay Noise and CGI wank over the screen for no real reason.

agree with this month's Starburst mag. the opinion piece in the back was talking about how the audience is treated as stupid, because nothing is a coincidence anymore.  tying all the plot points together, when some of them really didn't need tying together, just felt awful.  and, fuck me, Megan Fox was shite. not even the massive cleavage shots during the fitness scene at the start couldn't save it.
