Quote WWE United States Title Match: Sami Zayn vs. John Cena

Cena gets ready as Sami comes out to a big pop. Bret looks on and shakes Sami’s hand as he enters the ring. We go to commercial.

Back from the break and they’re going at it. Cena gets sent to the floor. Sami runs the ropes but Cena moves out of the way. Cena comes back in and slams Sami for a 2 count. Cena with a headlock now. Cena with more offense and anther 2 count. A doctor comes in to check on Sami’s shoulder as the match is stopped. We get replay and Sami was dropped on his shoulder by Cena before the last pin attempt. The match resumes as fans cheer Sami on.

Cena backs Sami into the corner and kicks the leg. Fans boo as Cena works Sami over. Cena keeps control and slams Sami again. Cena calls for the Five Knuckle Shuffle but Sami rolls him up for a 2 count. Cena runs into an elbow. Sami comes off the top with a crossbody for a 2 count. Cena rolls to the floor for a breather. Sami runs the ropes and leaps out onto Cena for a pop. They come back in the ring and Cena puts Sami in the STF. Sami makes it to the bottom rope and breaks the hold. The referee checks on Sami’s shoulder. Sami catches Cena with the Koji Clutch out of nowhere. More back and forth and another 2 count by Sami. We see Rusev and Lana watching backstage.

The “ole” chants start again but Cena runs over Sami with a clothesline. Cena goes for the Attitude Adjustment but Sami pops right back up and they both go down after colliding. Cena rolls to the floor as does Sami. Sami runs and dives through the bottom rope, nailing a tornado DDT on the floor, how he did with Cesaro a while back. Sami brings Cena back in the ring but Cena immediately hits the AA for a close 2 count. Cena argues with the referee. Sami comes back with a Blue Thunderbomb for a close 2 count. Fans chant “this is awesome” as they both get up and trade strikes.

Cena gets the upperhand and hits the springboard Stunner. Cena follows up with an Attitude Adjustment for the win.

Winner: John Cena

– After the match, Sami crawls to the corner selling the shoulder injury and Cena walks over to him. Cena extends his hand and helps Zayn up. Cena raises Sami’s arm in the middle of the ring as fans cheer. Cena leaves the ring clapping for Sami as his music plays. Sami gets hype with the Montreal crowd before making his exit as Cole plugs NXT Takeover: Unstoppable on the WWE Network.

The problem with him debuting against the golden boy is the only way afterwards is down.

He should have a good main roster career. With his build, ring style, look, nationality etc he will be like the new Christian as a good midcard hand.

Depending on his reactions out of Canada in the big arenas he might be pushed quicker than otherwise.

This was actually a great showing for Zayn. I'm not sure if this is a debut, since obviously he's been on Raw before as a member of the NXT roster, and here he is still billed as a member of the NXT roster. When Neville debuted it was made clear that he was a member of the main roster and no longer a member of the NXT roster. This seemed more like yet another exhibition of the NXT roster featuring Sami Zayn than it did Zayn's main roster debut. Obviously Zayn is going back down to NXT at least until Takeover is said and done, but I wouldn't bet against Zayn becoming NXT champion again either in which case he'll stay down there for the duration of that run, I would think.

I Loved the match and Zayn's Music is the fucking BOMB.

He had a great showing against the biggest name working at the moment, He will build on this and I can see him having a good midcard run before getting hold of one of those midcard titles

Why does everyone like his music? I think its horribly generic.
Great debut and smart booking by WWE, capitalise on the fact Raw was in his home town and the fans were crying out to see him, give him a rub from a hometown hero and then have him put in a very strong showing against the top guy in the company, then have the top guy show him big respect post match giving him another rub. Top marks to creative.

Zayn was hampered by a legit injury but fair-play to him for working through what looked like tremendous pain and putting on a great match, his tornado DDT through the ropes on the outside is a awesome spot.

Quote From Jim Ross Website

Thought the utilization of Bret Hart in Montreal was spot on as he gave Sami Zayn a magnificent "rub." Zayn and John Cena had an excellent presentation that the fans genuinely cared about and it seemingly suspended the audience's disbelief and the fans emotionally invested in their home towner who made his RAW debut. It played well on TV. Good booking.

Cena did give him a big rub, especially with him being able to kick out of his finisher, as that's not given to many people.

I agree with Fletcher that his music is shit. Usually it's TNA that you watch for dreadful themes.

He did excellent to work through a legit injury. He'd have been on such an high from the moment that he'd have felt the pain more when he got backstage.

If the Injury is Legit it would have done him wonders behind the curtain to work on through the injury

I dot mind ska, so i dont mind zayns music. To be fair though, not everyone can have amazing music like the biker guy does, or owens, or sheamus, or balor.... Yea, zayns music is probably the weakest theme the nxt music dude has done but it suits zayn so what ever.
