He's supposedly an hated heel and he's also never been pinned.

So why wouldn't the guys in the battle royal gang up to make sure he's the first one eliminated?

That way the favourite to win is gone from the very start. That's why booking logic goes shit by putting him in these kinda matches.

I think Rusev is awesome

He falls into the category Lesnar is in - in terms of being a believable unbeatable monster heel

He's no nonsense and he wants to fight - he's awesome

The way he just walked straight into the middle of everyone in the battle royal made him look even more like a bad ass

Hope they keep his run going until the rumble or longer

Seems odd that Rusev is ranting about wanting a title shot so far in the distance as in just under two months time.

I suspect he's still a little while off being fit to return, so it's a chance to keep one of the main Superstar Shakeup switches on screen.

Daniel and Shane as faces will probably keep saying no to him that he needs to earn a shot. So then Rusev might have to beat up low card guys like Strowman has to make them change their mind.

It's a way of masking his injury...plus he didn't state a title shot at which title, so in theory they do have three options for him LOL

I thought it was stupid that creative is going this route with him. The only reason they are making him the next contender after Jinder is because they are desperately trying to find ways to keep Shinsuke and AJ away from each other and hold off on the giant money angle for as long as possible. Look for Corbin to be Randy's 3rd challenger and then AJ next. Meltzer believes that creative wants Lana and Rusev on opposite ends of the spectrum. So if Lana is a baby face, they'll want to keep him heel. Mark Carrano apparently told Lana that if she wants to make an earnest try at being an in ring talent and make a name for herself, there needs to be an on air split between them.

They didn't specify what title though, so keep that in mind for now. However I do agree it's all about keeping AJ vs Orton for down the line.

However, given how well AJ vs Cobin has been playing off, could we see it being Corbin vs AJ for the title this year?

I can't see Orton having a lengthy run as the money isn't really in him at the moment. I can't see them pulling the trigger on Nakamura till end of the year, possibly even next year too.

As for Rusev, he can be a main event player if they allow him to be.

According to his Twitter, he was referring to not ever getting a WWE title opportunity.

Looking forward to his return tonight and seeing if he gets his title shot.

I can book what will happen now. Shane will tell him people have to earn a title shot and because Rusev is supposedly still injured he will leave in an huff.

It would be a nice surprise though if he's actually already in condition to compete and works a short match.

I'm quite annoyed they haven't brought him back in yet, there's options there for him for crying out loud. Maybe he'll be in the Battle Royal next week? Or he'll interrupt Cena next week?

Backstage Report – A Possible Double-Turn Coming To WWE SmackDown! Live
By Ryan Clark -November 3, 20171168627

Source: The Wrestling Observer

According to sources, there is talk within WWE of doing a double-turn on SmackDown! Live for Rusev and Tye Dillinger. Dillinger is currently working as a babyface under his current persona while Rusev has been a heel for his entire WWE career.

Rusev is popular among some fans who continue to cheer him despite his heel gimmick. The fans seem to dig his new “Rusev Day” catchphrase. The idea is that some fans are able to see his real personality on WWE Total Divas and that’s why some are cheering him.

During a WWE live event in Raleigh, NC recently, Rusev and Dillinger had a match where they performed a double turn. The crowd was cheering heavily for Rusev in the end, although there were still “10” chants for Dillinger. According to fan reports, the “10” chants were said to have been similar to the “What?!” chants that are often used at WWE live events.

Although it’s not confirmed as of this writing, it’s possible WWE may do this angle on television as live events are used to “test the waters” for future angles on TV. Rusev is currently feuding with The New Day while Tye Dillinger isn’t currently featured in any feud.

Previously I would have said this wouldn’t work but Rusev’s dated borderline comical foreign heel gimmick is stale and he has sunk right down the card ever since he was jobbed out to Cena and then Reigns.
So I would say it’s worth a try, Rusev has personality and is decent in the ring, maybe he can make a babyface gimmick work, although I have to say I quite like the whole Rusev Day thing with Aidan English, not sure that could be incorporated into a face role.

As for Dillinger I would turn him, the Ten! chant is over but the wrestler isn’t really. Plus as mentioned the danger is the chant will eventually become another irritating fan habit that they just randomly yell at shows. He’s actually pretty dull as a babyface I would try him as a heel perhaps under a Mr Perfect type gimmick.
