Saw a piece on Sky Sports News this morning of the England team in Christchurch paying their respects to the locals after the earthquake that hit them back in September. We were supposed to be playing there on saturday but have to play our opening world cup match elsewhere. The surrounding area is a mess and the grass has been allowed to grow long. Martin Johnson and Lewis Moody were very humble to the hospitality of the locals. Martin Johnson is a big man and was almost reduced to tears on seeing what's standing of the cathedral. I'm sure the Christchurch locals appreciated the team still visiting there. As for the world cup i'm expecting Australia to win like they did in the recent tri nations. New Zealand are always heavily odds on but always fall short.

We did appreciate them coming actually. The All Blacks never showed up here.

Also, Australia won't win, their team is shit, it'll either be us or South Africa.

Was hoping to post up a You Tube video of the footage Sky Sports News showed of them, but nobody has put it up.

South Africa I can't see defending it. The pressure will get to them.

I remember last world cup England had shit form going into it but came good. I'm hoping for much of the same. Hopefully draw France at some point as we are bit of a bogey team for them.

Unfortunatley Australia fail to perform around this time plus I think some of the players have been kicked out due to some disruptive behaviour anyway looking at the kiwis to win.

The big dilema for us is if Johnny Wilkinson or Toby Flood will play.

Flood has done well through the many injuries Wilkinson has had, but Johnny has the experience of winning and is doing well in his stint in France.

I'd expect Wilko to get the nod for the Argentina game.

Cracking World Cup so far, have been thoroughly impressed with the minnows.

Only real upset was Ireland beating Australia, which was hilarious, as the day before the game I was reading a columnist from the Sydney Morning Herald talking shit about how South Africa is past it and our lack of a real top XV means Aussie will win this Cup piece of piss. But in saying that, almost all games bar the All Blacks games have been closer than expected, and Canada and Romania have been especially impressive.

With a bit more support and popularity back home, I can really see those two nations doing well in future. Romania was a bloody good team 30 years ago, so they've got the capability, and the only thing Canada lack is fitness. Watching them play France tonight, they were right in it until the last 15 minutes, where they just started dropping off tackles and playing generally shit. If more of them went to Europe, of if they played more top quality opposition, I think they could be a top 7 or 8 team in the world by the time the next World Cup rolls around.

Based on this competition, things are really looking rosy for the future of world rugby.

The Aussies vs Ireland was a brilliant match and the highlight of the tournament so far. Even as a league fan who is not the biggest advocate of Union, I thought it was extremely entertaining!

Suppose it should be kept to this thread, the 6 Nations is back around the corner, Wales are set to be strong, England have a new management team so will be eager to impress, Ireland are always strong, Scotland are improving, France are France and Italy are better every year, so who's your pick this year and players to keep an eye on etc?

Wales could be the team to stick with after their really good world cup.

Scotland are starting to get better (they couldn't get worse) and Italy will be bottom.

I'd go for.......

1) Wales.
2) France.
3) England.
4) Ireland.
5) Scotland.
6) Italy.

Forum needs moar rugby chat.

So Australia are awful. That's hilarious. Got demolished by South Africa, and apparently can't count to 7 LOL As much as Robbie Deans is a hero in Canterbury, he's been awful the entire time he's been in charge of the Wallabies. Quade Cooper is a whiny bitch, and I'm happy he chose to play in Australia before we got the oppourtunity to deal with his bullshit.

Argentina have been really good so far in the Rugby Championship, hoping against hope that they can beat Australia next week, as they deserve it. Should have beaten South Africa at home, and had their chances against us in New Zealand. But, we did absolutely destroy them yesterday, and it was good to watch. First time I've seen Ma'a Nonu play well in years.

It's good to know that unlike England, we have a sports team that's actually the best in the world in something.
