I was worried Reigns would use Heyman to get the title and stay face, but reports seem positive that we are finally getting an heel run Big smile

The pairing makes sense because as the second question of this old link says Heyman has known Roman all his life and knew other members of his family who helped him......

Once fans are allowed again if Roman has the belt a jealous babyface Brock can return to face him.

I have a feeling that the changes Reigns has requested in the contract is that is has to be Bray Wyatt in the match and not The Fiend - but we shall see

It isnt great if they have The Fiend lose to Reigns immediately so having Wyatt be the one to lose and then have The Fiend chase after the belt again later would make sense.

I'm glad we are getting a heel Reigns - hopefully he has a new theme and a few other tweaks to his moveset so its not just an association with Heyman and a motto on a new t shirt

Top heel work from Roman at Payback. I loved how he delayed signing the match contract until the match was long underway and Bray and Braun were beaten down, this was a smart booking twist that I don't recall ever being done before and it really put over Reigns as a heel.

Roman still had to work a little for his win but of course Bray and Braun were worn down after brawling all around the ring and absorbing a ton of punishment, so it protected them both while establishing Roman as a top heel.

Reigns feels a much more natural fit as a heel, I've made the Batista comparison before as he was also pushed for years as a babyface largely because of his look and marketability but when he eventually turned heel he seemed to come into his own as a character and I think it will be the same for Roman. The association with Heyman is smart too as it puts more heat on Roman and emphasises that he is thinking more about business and no longer caring about the fans.

Roman had become stale as a babyface character and I'm really excited to see what happens now he is the top heel of the Smackdown brand. Credit to WWE for doing the smart thing and turning him rather than sticking with the tired overpushed babyface Reigns.

So i have a few theories as what will happen with the universal title - ive posted most of the detail in the Bray Wyatt on Smackdown thread, however the more i think of it the more likely one is going to be involving Retribution.

Given the way the match ended and all the talk in the build up, The Fiend isnt just going to take the loss and walk away from the title so i think it will be The Fiend v Reigns at Clash of Champions.

The Fiend will dominate the match and be about to regain the title when retribution hit and beat him down - the numbers game takes its toll and Reigns gets the win. This keeps the title on Reigns, protects The Fiend and also gets Reigns more heat, especially if he is revealed as the leader of Retribution because then we have a bad ass heel with a manager (Heyman) and henchman to do his dirty work (Retribution) whilst he goes on a lengthy title run until being dethroned by Big E at Wrestlemania

I would have said this is a very plausible theory but I have just seen a report stating that Retribution will only be appearing on the Raw brand moving forward so WWE obviously don't have plans to include Roman Reigns in the group unless he is moving to Raw which seems unlikely as Smackdown is the A show with the FOX deal.

I loved the way WWE were able to get the title on Reigns while protecting The Fiend and Strowman while putting a ton of heel heat on Roman, this was the best piece of WWE booking I've seen in some time.

I also like your idea about Big E being pushed to the moon and being the one to dethrone Reigns, I do think Big E needs to tone down the comedy and over the top stuff and get a bit more serious though.

I personally think they will build to Goldberg vs Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania next year, it was planned for this year until Roman took a hiatus due to Covid 19 and now Roman is heel and champion it makes more sense than ever and it means(fortunately) they dont need to put the belt on Goldberg this time.

Very heelish but made E look like a poorly run company if a wrestler doesn't have to sign a contract before a match starts and that you're that desperate for them to be in the match you put up with how they behave.

I wasn't a fan of that segment. An heel using a sob story for their behaviour I am not a fan of.

Later in a backstage segment Jey asked Roman if he can trust Paul and he said he's got it all under control. I hope that doesn't mean Roman is using Paul for the title so the heel run ends up being short.

This Reigns is fucking insanely good

The embrace with Uso after the match before remembering what he was about now, when Uso was dancing up the ramp - the heel Reigns came back out.

The storyline is awesome

Reigns continued to be impressive with his new character with a dominant win over Braun Strowman this week, this is the strongest I can remember anybody being booked against Strowman and I liked how Reigns showed a new edge to his ring style by using a guillotine choke submission hold.

Strowman is changing brands and is kind of treading water right now so this loss didn't really harm him much, and even if it did it was worth it to put over Roman so strong.

Looking forward to his Hell in a Cell match with Jey Uso, the storytelling here was good once again with Roman trying to act like the loyal and dedicated family member while still behaving heelishly while Jey showed concern about how dominant Reigns looked against Strowman.
