Quote Don't expect to see much of Randy Orton on WWE TV in early 2018.

According to reports, Orton will be working the second and fourth weeks of January as well as the February 6th WWE SmackDown! Live TV tapings. Following those dates, he will have the rest of February and all of March off.

Orton, who turns 38 in April, will be entering his 18th year in WWE next year. He is expected to work WrestleMania 34 and is currently advertised for the April 9th post-WM34 SmackDown! Live taping, however he is not expected to be part of the annual WWE WrestleMania Revenge Tour of Europe in May.

That's a lot of time off for part time Randall. Is he making a movie? It would explain why his hair looks shitest I can ever remember seeing it, with him growing it longer.

He's bound to be back for Wrestlemania, but he's not going to get a good position on the card.

He will probably get one last run with the title at some point, but title runs are drying up as his career comes to a close.

to be fair, he's not exactly been in a dominant position on SDL for some time.

i'd rather him take the time away, and hopefully not get called up just for title ops, with Orton and Cena getting on, and the few stars that WWE do have being nearer their age than really young enough to have a long life in the business at that level, WWE really do need to start building younger stars.

Orton's been on a cycle for the last 10 years or so of injury, return, jobber to the stars, title run, boring non title run, injury, repeat. He's very comfortable with that role. Usually by now he's turned heel but that could still happen in the future.

Orton seems to be transitioning into a veteran role of supporting the newer talent (as could be seen in the six man tag last night) taking a few strategic losses (a la Jinder Mahal/Kevin Owens) and a few strategic wins to keep himself looking good (a la Sami Zayn/Rusev). That's not a bad place to be on the card.

Well if this was Orton's last appearance in a while he sure knew how to grab the attention, coming down to the ring after a good United States Championship match between Glorious Bobby Roode and Alexander Rusev with an "RKO out of no where" and then RKOing everybody (despite the fact of it being Rusev Day.)

As Tom eluded to above, Orton is in a unique spot. He is a multiple time former World Champion and top guy who just won the Royal Rumble last year. Yet at the same time he can easily be overlooked. But today it's like he said, "Hey everyone, notice me. I'm still here, and I can take anybody out at any time I want."

Orton's contracted dates are quite limited. Not to the degree of Lesnar but similar to those of the Hardys. He's worked over during mid season and now he'll take the time off he's owed.

I'm still expecting that we'll see Owens and Zayn vs Orton and McMahon at mania, despite the bloodlust that people are having for Daniel Bryan. It would make sense for him to be missing for a while and return late in the day with RKOs for Owens and Zayn, thus preventing McMahon from taking a further beating.

A lot of these Wrestlemania card predictions don't feature Randy Orton. That's not going to happen. Orton is too valuable a name to be absent from the biggest show of the year.

Quote U.S. Title: Bobby Roode (c) vs. Randy Orton: Roode starts off strong in this one and wrestles Orton down to the mat. They trade holds back and forth; and Orton fires up and hits an elbow to the face. Orton looks for an RKO early on, but Roode escapes and rolls outside for a breather.

Back in the ring, Roode fires back with some stiff strikes, and now the Champion sends Orton rolling outside for a breather. Jinder and Sunil are backstage watching on a monitor. Back in the ring, Orton hits a kick on Roode then a reverse suplex.

Roode fires up and starts taking control. He looks for the Glorious DDT, but Orton fights out and comes back with a spinning power slam. Roode starts coming back and stuns Orton, then the Champion goes up top and hits the Blockbuster for a two count.

They fight out to the apron, which leads to Orton hitting the DDT through the ropes. Orton looks for the RKO, but Roode escapes. They go back and forth until Roode clotheslines the challenger to the outside. Roode follows him outside and they brawl around ringside. Orton slams Roode into the fan barricade, then tags him in the ring for a two count.

Roode and Orton fight up to the top rope, which leads to Roode hitting a sunset flip powerbomb for a two count. Both men are slow to get up and they trade strikes. Roode escapes an RKO attempt and hits a spinebuster on the challenger for a near-fall. Roode goes up top and looks to follow up with a Blockbuster, but Orton leaps up and hits an RKO in mid-air. Orton immediately pins for the three count, and we have a new U.S. Champion.

Winner & new U.S. Champion: Randy Orton

– After the match, Jinder Mahal comes down to the ring and beats down Orton. Roode comes over for the save, and Roode hits the Glorious DDT on Jinder. Roode then picks up Orton and hits the Glorious DDT on him too.

It was widely reported he was going to take a lot of time off in the build up to Wrestlemania and that's obviously not happened. I wonder if as a sweetener they promised him the one title he's not yet had.

I'm surprised he hasn't held the US title. It's been on Smackdown a lot through the years and it's the brand most associated with Randall.

I wouldn't have put the title on him, but hope now he holds it long term and it's not a case of well he's finally held the title, lets quick switch back.

Orton has his role, but I'm not a big fan of the guy. As far as I'm concerned he can retire now. He's a good guy, but he's so boring.

Quote WWE U.S. Champion Randy Orton comes out before Asuka and Charlotte have left. Orton gets on the mic and talks about winning the U.S. Title for the first time in his career. He mentions that he's the 10th "grand slam" champion under the current title format, and that's the list that really matters. He says Bobby Roode earned his respect, but the U.S. Title is his now and no one is taking it from him. Bobby Roode comes out to interrupt, and congratulates Orton on the win. Roode says he wants the rematch at WrestleMania 3, and it will be glorious when he recovers his U.S. Title. Jinder Mahal and Sunil Singh are out next. Jinder also congratulates Orton, and tells everyone to forget about the WrestleMania rematch, because Jinder is going to beat Bobby tonight and then take Orton's Title.

- Bobby Roode vs. Jinder Mahal: The opening bell sounds and they fight into the corner. Roode looks for the Glorious DDT early, but Jinder escapes and regroups at ringside. Back in the ring, Roode drops Jinder then grabs him for a reverse neckbreaker. Roode goes up top and hits a flying clothesline, then looks for the Glorious DDT but Jinder escapes again. Jinder rams Roode into the corner, but Roode fires back with a boot to the face and then a Blockbuster for a 2 count. Jinder hits a big boot for a 2 count of his own. Jinder looks for the Khallas, but Roode escapes and rolls up Jinder for another near-fall. Roode hits a spinebuster for another two count. Singh gets on the apron for the distraction, and Roode throws him into the ring post. The distraction leads to Jinder dropping Roode and hitting the Khallas for the three count.

Winner: Jinder Mahal

- Immediately after the match, Orton runs in and hits the RKO on Jinder.

Don't get why they keep saying he's now won every title in the company when he's never held the Universal championship.

They can't even say he used to own a version of it, because the belt doesn't have a linege history.

I'd prefer him to be a silent wrestler, because his voice still makes you want to fall asleep, even after all these years.

No but he held the big gold belt, what's the difference? At least the World Heavyweight Championship title sounded better than champion of the WWE Universe. That championship title is the stupidest sounding title I've ever seen in a major organization.
