Quote Former WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre has returned with his eye locked firmly on the NXT Championship.

In the midst of NXT TakeOver: Orlando, rumors instantly began to circulate when the “Sinister Scotsman” was spotted watching the live WWE Network event very closely from his seat in the capacity crowd.

But speculation instantly dissipated when McIntyre revealed to ESPN that he has signed as NXT’s newest Superstar.

This huge news immediately conjures thoughts of dream showdowns between the hard-hitting McIntyre and the NXT roster’s elite. And judging by the reaction of the NXT Universe when he was shown donning a sly smile in attendance, fans were certainly excited by the prospect of him stepping through the yellow ropes very soon.

Good signing. McIntyre failed to connect with the audience during his first WWE run despite his obvious talent, but he was very young and it turns out hitting the indies combined with a stint in TNA was exactly the experience and seasoning he needed and he became a standout talent among the many names not attached to WWE.

He is still fairly young in wrestling terms as most don't hit their stride until 30+ and I'm looking forward to the prospect of a feud with Bobby Roode.

This is good news. I felt WWE dropped the ball with Drew originally but now he is more seasoned hopefully he can get the top strap in the company eventually.

This is the one thing I felt I had missed during my viewing of Takeover last night; a shot of a future NXT star in the audience. Truth be told I got up after a few minutes to take care of a few things and I didn't sit to watch the main event until after the bell rang so I knew there was a chance it had happened, I just wasn't watching, but when it was all over, not seeing any new signee left me feeling like Takeover was lacking something. Glad to see I simply didn't see it more so than that it didn't happen at all.

I think it's really interesting that Drew is going to NXT and not returning to the main roster. On the main roster, he'd be used like Jinder Mahal and be jobbed out to everyone. But on NXT, he's going to be allowed to show off his skills and get featured at the top of the card.

I suspect McIntyre will get the UK title pretty quickly. He would be a better choice to hold that title (provided WWE hasn't already changed their plans with a UK-show). And hyping him as a former IC champ. it helps to elevate the UK title.

In fairness he was pushed hard he just failed to connect with the audience despite being a good worker and WWE experimenting with a few characters for him. Bit like Jack Swagger, a guy with all the talent in the world but for no obvious reason he just failed to win over the fans.

Hopefully by establishing himself outside of WWE he will get over this time around.

I only vaguely remember the tale end of his first run as a singles guy, and in 3MB he was a nobody.

Seeing him now though he even looks like a star. Only two people in NXT have impressed me in that way in their first moments on the camera, the first was Charlotte Flair exuding that exact same aura Ric Flair oozed during his entrances. The second was Bobby Roode looking just like Ravishing Rick and cutting a promo like that of Y2J meets Mr. Perfect.

Drew already looks, acts and sounds like a future wwe champion. I look forward to a feud with Bobby Roode, perhaps this summer?

He was a TNA original along with AJ Styles and Samoa Joe and Austin Aries. He is the guy that took the title off Nakamura in NXT. He will be the next huge debut on the main roster.

So far, the list of NXT Champions is Seth Rollins, Big E, Bo Dallas, Neville, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, Finn Balor, Samoa Joe, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Bobby Roode.

I'm guessing Roode won't be in NXT too much longer and will debut after summer slam. He will probably drop the title to McIntyre or maybe even Hideo Itami and then head to the main roster.

Let's put it this way. Earlier this year I was watching wwe for literally only 3 people, Chris Jericho, The Miz and Bobby Roode, and all for the exact same reasons.

Roode will definitely be the next huge main roster debut, I hope it's sooner rather than later and I also hope it's Smackdown rather than Raw.

I think the only reason he's in NXT is to get used to the WWE environment and because it's useful for the younger talents down there to work with a decent veteran like Roode. Same reason the likes of Samoa Joe, Finn Balor and Shinsuke Nakamura all spent time down there.

Drew will then take up that mantle with EY and Ohno as the experienced heads in NXT, it's a good cycle to have.

As for Drew, bring back his chosen one gimmick, that was sublime.

Remember when Johnny Nitro (John Morrisson) took the mick out of Drew McCintyre by dressing up as Braveheart ? LOL

I think Drew is a solid all around performer. I also think the "hype" around him right now is that WWE fans know him as a guy whose potential was seemingly wasted by the WWE and they thought he could be more. Now that he's done more outside of the WWE (and escaped 3MB) to become one of the big fish in small ponds, he's returning with that sort of "street cred" from having wrestled on the indy scene. That seems to be the "thing" these days when coming to or coming back to the WWE.

Either way, I think his strength is more so in his look, swagger and how he handles himself in the ring. We can't expect every NXT guy to be AJ Styles, King of Strong Style, Daniel Bryan, etc. type of worker. He's his own man. A big guy with some swag, a lot more experienced now and making the best of his resurgent opportunity in the WWE.
