Obviously I hope England win as I think we have the best bid by far to host it.

We have about three dozen grounds that fill the creteria without even having to spend another penny on building grounds that might not be done in time.

Our public services such as trains/planes makes it very easy to get to where you want quickly too.

Am I the only one not to be throwing a hissy fit over this?

Russia had a better bid, simple........

1) We have the better grounds.

2) We have the better transport system.

3) We have a multi culutral country.

4) We aren't racist.

5) We don't make things complicated with different time zones.

6) It's our national sport.

7) We were the only bid that could cope if the world cup tomorrow.

8) We could guarantee sold out stadiums at every game unlike Russia.

Russia would have been my last choice of the four to get it. If not us it should have been Spain/Portugal.

Nah Football as the sport we invented is our number one sport for people watching. We got 100% in all five catergories by FIFA, Blatter called the bid remarkable, and yet we only got two votes out of twenty two. One of which was our own guy voting. If having the grounds, transport, weather etc to host it on top of having a world known guy like Beckham, royalty, and the PM on the case doesn't get us the vote we never will. When I think of Russia I think of bad crime, corruption, cold weather, artificial pitches, vodka, and Anna Chapman. I don't think football.

I agree the English bid had more going for it at first glance than the Russian bid, especialy with the changes being made to London in preparation for the Olympics, but this business has never been solely about who will be able to fill stadiums the best.

Look at South Africa, so many matches were played at 50% capacity stadiums. Its all political just the asme as Olympic bids

Debatable, they have links to 2 continents (a direct train to Asia) and easy access from USA, while everyone here complains about train delays, waiting for buses etc.

Quote 4) We aren't racist.

lol you must be joking. Have you not seen the shoutbox today?

Its theirs too.

Portugal got the Euros 6 yrs ago, it wouldnt be fair for them to get this too, joint bid or not.

We do have the olympics in 2012 and to be honest, who gives a crap who has it? The football will be amazing, the whole world will be watching and we'll have the usual misguided optimism that England should do well.

We have the best grounds, transport, football league, fans, would have made FIFA the most money, and have a multicultural society.

Clearly they are paying us back for the Sunday Times report the other week and the Panarama documentary on monday night.

We've got Champions League final 2011, Olympics in 2012, Commonwealth games in 2014, and Rugby world cup in 2015 so those events will show FIFA what they are missing not picking us.

Right, time to go to town. Having a best friend who is Russian, and having had lengthy discussions with his mother about the state of the country, I'd like to think I'd be better informed about them than you.

Quote 1) We have the better grounds.

Debatable. Russia's got some fantastic stadia, and when they try the pitches will be perfect, I wouldn't worry about that. Besides, I don't actually know alot about the English bid, but I'd assume the final would've been at Wembley, and that pitch has been dodgy for years.

Quote 2) We have the better transport system.

Never underestimate the power of government. Shit will run like clockwork when the World Cup comes around there, bet on it.

Quote 3) We have a multi culutral country.
Does this matter? At all? If people are turning up to the stadiums, it makes no difference what colour they are.

Quote 4) We aren't racist.
Well, yes you are, and Russia won't be for a small period before, during, and after the World Cup. Power of government. There will be skinheads sucking black dick on the street during the World Cup if necessary.

Quote 5) We don't make things complicated with different time zones.
Doesn't matter, most of those games I would imagine would be held in the Eastern part of the country, where the time difference isn't that great. Besides, don't be a selfish prick, different time zones make it better for FIFA, you can play teams in places where it'll be on in prime time in their country. More ratings. Better.

Quote 6) It's our national sport.

So? It's theirs too, as stated, and that shit is popular. Back in the day football was literally a matter of life and death, and people now are still almost as fervent as they were then.

Quote 7) We were the only bid that could cope if the world cup tomorrow.

Lucky the World Cup is in 2018 then. Knob.

Quote 8) We could guarantee sold out stadiums at every game unlike Russia.
No you couldn't. Do you think New Zealand v.s. Slovakia would've sold out in England? Ivory Coast v.s. North Korea? South Africa v.s. Mexico? Come on man, pull your head out of your ass. People will be there in droves in Russia, attendance won't be a problem.

It's all about the power of government. Russia, despite it's problems now, will be picture perfect come World Cup time. All of their issues with racism, shakedowns, and hooliganism will disappear, I guarantee it. If they put their minds and their money to it, the Russian government will do a far better job of controlling it's citizens and their behaviour during a World Cup than the English government would.

Stop being so one-eyed.

Well us drawing Scotland should make some interest in a qualification group that we never get anymore.

It's been on my bucket list for years to watch a live game against the Auld Enemy. That it's a competitive match at the home of football just makes me want to go more in November 2016.

Like one cousin helped out with Ashes tickets in the past due to being part of the Yorkshire CCC members, i'm going to see if another one is still an England member to get tickets on my behalf.

Be nice to see the game...Haven't been to a Scotland vs England Game since Gazza Fired a belter of a goal over his team mate Andy Goram at Wembley during Euro 96 a few months shy of my 10th Birthday.

Since I got into Rugby I have dropped football almost completely. Still keep up with Villa and Greenock Morton though

Lucky you mate. Hopefully get hold of a few tickets with a bit of luck. Be loads of police around for this.

Once England members have had their tickets and they go on general sale I don't fancy trying to buy through a website as it will be slow and probably crash. They will likely go within minutes and then be put on other websites with massive price mark ups.

The return leg is a week before my birthday in June 2017 but not sure i'd feel as safe as an Englishman going to Hampden Park Tongue

Well England have done their usual .. qualified with plenty room to spare - whilst playing awfully and being the most boring team on the planet.

Now all we need to do in order to keep up with tradition is to turn up to Russia, hyped up to bits and then go out there with pride and get knocked out at the first stage

-------------

So we haven't lost a qualifying match for eight years, won to nill AGAIN and by winning our last two games we actually helped out Scotland, who must be for the first time in their history wanted us to win two games in a row LOL

Gone for the 2/1 Sky Bet offer today England 2+ goals, England 5+ corners and Lithuania 20+ booking points.

Same odds nearly came in other night (England one goal short) but being away will help us because the home teams can't park the bus against us or their fans will let them be told in the stands that it's not acceptable.

We just need to avoid defeat to the Irish to get at least a play off place. I can't see Serbia not being Georgia so it is a straight shoot out between both side. Ireland will need to force the game as a draw will do us, so it could get pretty interesting.

Adam Davies, Tom Bradshaw and Ryan Hedges. Three tarn players in the Welsh squad and nobody born in the country they represent

Bradshaw even was the replacement for Gareth Bale which I found very funny.

Doubt any will see game time just like the other night.

Bradshaw may if we need a goal as our other options are Robson-Kanu and Vokes haha. We're as guilty as the England cricket team for kolpaks, but we're small so we can use the grandparent route...we do right down to grass roots too.

We looked so short of ideas against 9 defenders, plus the Ref didn't help, oh and that nasty horrid shove by the twunt who scored the winner on Joe Allen so he got knocked silly by Meyler was nasty too.

Even if we did score we'd have finished 9th of the 2nd places so a win was needed and it just didn't happen. Not beating Georgia at home cost us.

Italy can’t rely on their ageing defence anymore which is where the issue lies - they have no creativity now Pirlo has retired and I think them failing to qualify will be a more frequent thing

They have some excellent youngsters coming through the ranks, however I think they've missed a trick by not starting to blood them now.

They're lucky they've got Donnaruma to step straight into Buffon's boots, but the defenders errmm yeah, the highly rated youngsters are more attacking IE Chiesa.

Tried to post in here yesterday but the forum (or my macbook) was being an absolute arsehole

Was really suprised Denmark smashed Ireland the way they did - especially considering Ireland went 1 up.
Eriksen was phenomenal and his hattrick completely ruined any justification i had for taking him out of both of my dream teams

So because Pannini have started to pay England for a proper team photo, their world cup stickers have gone to 80 pence for just five stickers.

It's still a good investment to have a full album for the right price, so I will keep looking on EBay, although auction prices are too high currently.

For a full box of 100 packs of five wouldn't want to pay more than fifty quid with postage and packaging.

Which is why in 1994 the US did host the World Cup.

Diana Ross messed up during the opening ceremony which was pretty funny. 8 year old me laughed at the time.

Skybet have a offer where you put a ten pound single on a country to win the tournament and if they don't, you get your tenner back as a free bet.

William Hills has a offer where your tenner single on a country to win the tournament gets you back a five pound free bet for every match they win during the tournament.

Two very good offers, just don't know who to back yet LOL Probably France considering the squad is so good they left out about half a dozen that would walk into our own 23 man squad.

Ronaldo again showing he's arguably the best ever by once again carrying his country in a major tournament.

My respect to anyone daft enough to sit through the first two games that bored viewers to tears.

Can't see anything but the bookies favourite winning all four games tomorrow. Could be bedlem for payouts in four timer accas.

Can’t stand Ronaldo but class display, screamer of a free kick. Only caught the second half of Spain/Portugal but cracking game.

As Adders said zero interest in the other games today, I’m not someone that will watch every game just because it’s the World Cup, I’ll watch the England games and a handful of the others that look interesting.
Russia opened in style yesterday demolishing Saudi Arabia.

Ronaldo is nowhere nearest the greatest of all time.

He is an absolutely fantastic goal scorer but as far as overall play goes - Messi is head and shoulders above him - totally different level.

Ronaldo hardly carried his team - he scored a pen, de gea made an absolute mess of his second but i do agree his freekick was sensational.

Isco was the best player on the pitch for me - controlled the game from start to finish. Have to wonder what would have happened if Costa had of stayed on - not sure Aspas did anything when he came on

Ronaldo has done well for three different teams, in three different countries and on the international stage.

Messi has done it for one team and never on the international stage, even though he's surrounded by a better quality of team mate.

If Ronaldo can once again carry his small nation to success so Portugal hold the European Championship and World Cup both at the same time, he will be the best ever if he isn't already.

What do you mean Argentina with a better quality of team mate?

When was the last time Argentina actually had a decent national team?

Portugal have had better teams than the Argies in the times CR7 and Messi have been playing.

Messi is a 1 team player - but hes the greatest in that team, in that league , in that country, in that continent, in that world, in history. He does more than just score goals - hes the complete player.

I was having this conversation with someone at work the other day, so many National teams are too reliant on one or two players, Portugal and Argentina being prime examples. I didn’t know Christiano Ronaldo was 33, this surely has to be his last World Cup and Portugal without him I think will go from being a side that is a good outside bet to win a major tournament to a side that will struggle to qualify. We mentioned the Ivory Coast as another national side who in the past have had two or three standout players but the rest of the team is weak, they of course failed to qualify this time around.

It’s only really the likes of Brazil, Spain, Germany and France that have quality from top to bottom of the squad, I would mention Italy too but they didn’t even qualify this time around which came as a surprise as a major tournament without Italy just doesn’t seem right.

Messi has played many international tournaments surrounded by quality team mates. Ronaldo hasn't been afforded that luxary.

9/4 with Coral for at least two goals in all four games today. I am on that with three of the games having a team odds on to win. Should be a day for goals.

Reading reports that Saudi Arabia players will be punished for yesterday when they return home. Wouldn't want to be them......

George Best is better than Messi...just saying.

As for this WC, been very hit and miss so far. A couple of very entertaining games and a bit of dross. Lots of VAR being used, too many penalties being given and already too much Ronaldo vs Messi.

Iceland were excellent which was a highlight

It does seem as if every decision is being questioned by VAR - instead of now players surrounding the ref they are demanding they review the footage. IT has given pretty much all the correct decisions though.

Sky Bet offering 3/1 tomorrow on wins for Serbia, Germany and Brazil. Get through the first game and it should be good.

The 3/1 Skybet had for wins for Serbia, Germany and Brazil yesterday is 10/3 now so I am glad I have only just put it on.

Germany were brave to leave Sane out of their squad, but it was the right decision as his international record is really bad.

Ive also put that bet on Adders

I disagree strongly on Sane - whilst in the past his record has been poor - hes never had a season like hes just had for Man City.

Hes easily the best young player in the league and deserved to be in the squad on merit.

Theyve taken Draxler instead whos hardly played and whos half the player Sane is

I would have taken Sane too. Germany are very fortunate they have such a strong squad, and in reality should do very well in this tournament.

Actually think Germany vs Mexico could be a cracking game so I hope it doesn't disappoint.

Serbia played well but should have killed the game the amount of chances they had.

Mexico played really well even though it's probably the worst Germany side in my lifetime.

Switzerland played well too and knew to clobber Neymar so the hype jobs knew they had a tough game on their hands.

Serbia looked decent, a good shout for the dark horse team of the tournament.

Brazil started strong but faded, they should have beat the Swiss.

Did OK on the three favourites all winning at 3/1, Skybet offering a fiver free bet if you back a tenner on the England game and Coral offering a fiver free bet for every England goal if you do the same tenner bet with them.

We absolutely deserved that win and Kane should have had a couple of penalities, which would have annoyed me abit for not taking the 20/1 special on a Kane hat trick Skybet offered.

Used the Skybet fiver free bet for over 1.5 goals and 9+ corners at 8/1 in all three games tomorrow.

yes we played very well in the first 30 minutes particularly and Tunisia clearly had a game plan - similar to Panama v Belgium - try and injure as many players as possible.

They never looked like scoring before or after the penalty and we completely dominated the game - shame the ref was too much of a prick to actually protect our players a bit - the guys in the VAR truck must have fancied the night off too.

Its Coming Home

Not the biggest odds but on at 7/4 for 1+ goals, 1+ cards and 8+ corners in all three games today with William Hill with their Your Odds section.

Yesterday the second match let it down by 1 corner and 1 booking, but the short price 11/8 treble of the three favourites to win sneaked in for a small profitable day.

Skybet tweeted about every match finishing 1-0. Someone tweeted the twenty quid they put on the first scorer treble that got them just short of 800 quid simply by picking the main goal threat for all three match favourites.

Disgraceful of Mark Lawrenson for coming over all upset about it on commentary instead of laughing at it.

Another major tournament Messi hasn't done it in for his country.

He can soon be on a beach and then back to being supplied shitloads of chances by class players against teams like Betis and Leganes.

Not much Messi could do about Caballero fucking up (great finish by Rebic) and their defence having as many holes as swiss cheese.

I had Croatia favourites for this group anyway. Only Messi and Aguero would be outright starters for Croatia, their starting mid was from Real Madrid/Barca/Inter ffs. This wasn't an upset by any stretch.

Anyone who knows anything about football k ows that argentinas team is awful.

I genuinely feel sorry for Messi and Aguero for having to try and carry them and dybala who cant get in the team because they go ultra defensive.

I also had croatia for the group and i got them in the sweep at work so double win.

Well my daily William Hills bet of a goal, a card and 8+ corners in every match at 7/4 came in yesterday at 2/1 but the Brazil match left it late for the first game for the goal.

Tempted at the 7/1 they are offering on 3+ goals in each game, but the Korea/Mexico game might be a worry sandwiched between Belgium and Germany matches.

I will look for a bet single on the Germany game with Skybet for their daily offer of putting a tenner on something and getting a five pound free bet added straight to your account.

As bad as they are defensively - you cant write off the Germans

Boateng is so bad - looks like a player who has came out of retirement for a charity game

Any decent side with a world class striker would have beaten them today and theyd have been knocked out

3 LIONS TOMORROW

Whatever happens in that match doesn't make us awesome for beating them or shite for losing to them, as both of us will play weakened teams and go easy.

Great to see the Barnsley Beckenbauer getting his golden boot attempt up and running after being unlucky to only come away with an assist in the first game.

Selfish of Kane to take the penalty. Game already won at 4-0 and not many defenders get world cup hat tricks.

I’m almost disappointed England and Belgium don’t have anything to play for on Thursday other than pride, as Adders said both sides will rest key players and will go easy to avoid injury. With more at stake it would have been the best game of the group.

England played well and battered Panama but in fairness it’s only the result they should have got against a much weaker team. Will be interesting to see what we can do against tougher opposition.

Panama gave us two penalities from being brain dead, two set pieces and a deflection. Lingard was the only other goal. We can't get too excited.

At the moment a draw will have us top the group on fair play from one less booking, but would probably get us a tougher quarter final if we got through the last 16.

I can see Messi retiring from international football after the world cup and probably Salah too.

We will comfortably beat Colombia, Japan or Senegal so it doesnt matter if we finish 1st or 2nd IMO

Date Posted: 25/June/2018 at 18:57
It would be better for England to take a draw and finish 2nd in the group as it's an easier route to the final. You'd be looking at potentially Japan, then Mexico before a potential semi final with a slow defence of Germany.....

We can beat any of the teams we have the option to play so id go out to win the group, keep confidence high. Look at all the carry on tonight - Spain and Portugal now look easier games after the farcical events of the games tonight

What the fuck kind of dustbin man mentality is that?

We are gonna have to face a decent team in order to win the thing at some point, who cares if it's Senegal or Japan, why be scared of these pauper teams?

That's the logic I subscribe to as well, John. You can dodge good teams, but what's the point? There's potentially a great confidence boost in beating a great team that can lead to great things.

Germans are out

Brazil could be soon to follow

Argies play France and Portugal play Uruguay so a couple more will follow

It's Coming Home

Win the group you end up in the side of the draw haha..could lead to both teams being half arsed as the side of the draw for finishing second would be winners of next match vs winners of Sweden vs Switzerland in the quarters..then if Spain pull their socks up them in the semi's.

The left side of the draw though...wow, France vs Argentina, Uruguay vs Portugal, Brazil vs Mexico...some of the better teams this tournament are gone.

I have to say if England get in the right hand bracket, i'd fancy them to make the final.

The entire right side of the bracket is European teams. Spain being the best among them thus far.

So England heading to the easier half of the draw with 20 mins to play. Colombia will be tricky but i'd fancy England to get past them, then it's an easier tie with Sweden or Switzerland. I have to say if things stay the same i'd fancy England to make the final.

All four teams main goal threat to all have a shot on target 3/1 with Skybet is the bet today.

Also on their last 16 special of 3 corners in 90 mins per team at 28s.

England did great losing for the easier draw so roll on Tuesday.

France to beat Argentina in a boring game with plenty of post match analysis from dumbasses suggesting Messi is finished.

Uruguay to beat Portugal in a tight game with a scrappy headed goal. Cavani to miss 5+ clear chances.

James Rodriguez is injured for the England game too...that makes England big favourites for me.

Mbappe's pace was frightening, looked a lot like Thierry in his prime.

Overated Messi only just got me the shot on target i needed. Now he can go back to his Barca comfort zone playing teams like Betis whilst those around him do the spade work.

Lovely seeing the wannabe Falkland owners sent packing, even though it's a game too late.

My France pick in this topic pre tournament is still looking good and it was easily the match of the tournament.

I assume you think Ronaldo is the best in the world, if so he's playing those same teams like Betis (who are way better than our shit teams like Burnley) you mentioned.

Nearly a goal a game ratio and he's overrated ay. Stick to talking about League 1 mate.

Messi got a goal and 3 assists in 4 games in a team full of donkeys.

Messi has 1 more in terms of combined goals and assists than Ronaldo despite playing 145(ish) less games.

So do yourself a favour and brush your teeth / wash your hands because all you are doing is talking/ typing shit.

He did it in Portugal, for Portugal, in England and in Spain. Would love for Messi to leave Barcelona and do it in more than one place.

That 3/1 was buying money can't believe the value.

Once Messi finally scuffed one on target, Ronaldo and Suarez pissed it in the next game after barely twenty minutes.

Dunno what him being a one club man has got to do with it. He's played against other countries in the Champions League and ruined them. Being loyal doesn't make him a bad player lol.

Plus Ronaldo was dumped out the tournament too by a worse team.

Crazy how one of Russia/Croatia/Denmark/Swiss/Sweden/Colombia/England is gonna be in the final though.

Yesterday the wannabe Falklands owners went out.

Today the most boring side of all went out with their tippy tappy all time World Cup record for any country ever of 770 passes in 90 minutes and over a thousand with extra time.

I would say it's been a bloody good weekend for us without even playing.

Yeah you can’t really knock someone for playing for one of the best clubs in the world playing regularly in major competitions involving the best clubs in Europe. If you can succeed at that level it says something about a player.

A prime example of a player who never reached his full potential is Matt Le Tissier, played his whole career for Southampton ignoring big money offers from the likes of Arsenal and Man Utd and as a result was never able to really prove himself at the top level.

Well Brazil are through - it starts to become a surprise that there hasnt been a shock result - such as how the world cup has gone so far.

There still time though - Belgium v Japan although i cant see any other result than a comfortable Belgium win

Yeah #Heel, that was probably the most uncomfortable of wins mate. A damn fine display by the Samurai Blue. Nothing to be ashamed of for them.

Shaquiri, Falcao and Kane 4/1 to all have a shot on target today.

Loved how Japan played last night. That's why our new German coach was brought in, as our billionaires want to play high energy, high intensity that you saw last night.

I retweeted a funny tweet from someone laughing at the Belgium subs that went on to score twice. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Fluked a win against Tunisia in the last minute.

Beat a braindead pub team full of guys Baz wouldn't want his Newport County signing.

Lost to Belgium reserves.

Needed penalities to beat a cokehead country missing their best player.

No clean sheet by Pickford in any of his four games.

Sterling with two international goals in about fifty games can never take club form to international football.

Never fear though because it's coming home Big smileBig smileBig smile

As a Liverpool fan, it's behavior like that headbutt that makes me question Hendo's leadership.

It's funny reading the shite the likes of Asprilla (sorry Double H), Falcao and Maradona have been coming out with about Colombia being the best team and the ref being biased towards us.

We should have had more than one penalty due to rugby tackles like the ones we've seen in other games.

They should have been down to at least ten for the headbutt and possibly more from delaying the penalty with disent and trying to knacker the penalty spot.
