Quote The following is from WWE.com:

WWE has come to terms on the release of WWE Superstar Paul Burchill as of today February 26, 2010. We wish Paul Burchill the best in all future endeavors.

Terribly underused and been coming sadly for a very long time.

The guy is really talented and it begars belief why WWE didn't make him a star.

The death of ECW for a second time was the death nail in his coffin.

wow that really isn't a surprise!

It's a shame because the guy is talented. I bet he his kicking himself that this didn't happen just 6 months ago as TNA may have came knocking. However TNA dont need him now shame for Birchill

Maybe I should support a fellow Brit, but no. Burchill was crap in every department and I cant say Im sorry to see this news. I'd expect there to be some TNA rumours as there is the British Invasion link, but this is to be expected with all WWE releases.

Hopefully something good of this can come, in that Katie Lea could be pushed now as a singles Diva. Shes got the talent to compete with divas like Beth, mickie and gail. Certainly aint too hard on the eye either Smile

A shame as he did have some good talent about him, but I'm honestly not surprised. I just really hope Katie Lea doesn't suffer the same fate and will actually be utilized better now.

This is very sad to hear about. This guy's career was revvied on ecw. His program and fued with the hurricane made me interested in him. The inventor of the c-4! This guy was awesome to watch. And he had a decent entrance song. Ah well ... lets hope he comes back sooner or later.

I don't know if I'd wanna see him in TNA now, if you really think about it. The British Invasion is already about dissolving if not dissolved, with Big Rob being kicked out and Doug Williams being the singles X-Division champ. I don't see how TNA's gonna be able to figure out how to use him right when they've already got so much under-utilized talent on their roster.

Though, maybe this can be good news for Katie Lea. As in, once Mickie James finally decides to leave, if they still have Katie Lea on the payroll, they should just roll her on over to Smackdown and have her replace Mickie as that show's top fem face to reinvigorate her career. Finally she's completely separated from the wannabe-incest plot of 2008, so it's at least possible.

I've predicted this release for some time so no surprise what so ever.

A terrible shame as the guy is hugely talented and has a good look and build. Amazes me really when you consider all those facts that WWE didnt make better use of him, but in fairness not all the blame can be laid at WWE's door as Burchill was given several chances under several different gimmicks and always failed to get over.
Perhaps that was the problem, his gimmick changed so many times the fans refused to have any interest in him.

I think TNA would be a good move for him where there is a stronger emphasis on actual wrestling and Burchill woulnt have his style watered down so much.
He would actually be good as a new member/leader of the British Invasion now they are a member short with Big Rob gone.

I'm seriously hoping for this, Pac. I adore Katie Lea and she deserves to have her time to shine. She's got a unique look about her that sets her apart from other Divas and can actually wrestle unlike some of the ones getting pushed every week. I'd love to see her and Nattie lock up at some point so the two of them can really showcase their talents.

GASP!! WWE had The Hurricane burry the guy only for him to move to another brand... But wait.. Hes supposed to get a push after this right? Birchill is supposed to get over on Morrison and Killings though right... I mean he gets banished from ECW by The Hurricane and he must get over on upper card talent and get a push right?? LoL. OK I am done messin around...

Never liked the guy and didnt even know he was the same person as the pirate. LoL. Katie Lea is still in WWE, but I dont see her getting anything. Birchhill released in favor of room for Bryan Danielson, yea. I will accept that.

Same here. Shame for Paulie, no doubt, but I´d much rather have Katie Lea stay and finally be utilized to the best of her abilities.

I'm not surprised this guy was released either. I mean, come on, other than having a smoking hot "sister" in Katie Leigh, what has this guy done? The only thing I remember him for was being a pirate...

Not really a surprise, WWE didnt know what to do with him after the failed attempt at having him as a Pirate and tag team partner of William Regal, then with that incest angle with his "sister" Katie Lea.

I doubt TNA will grab him unless Doug Williams and/or Nigel McGuinness pull some strings to bring him over there. He was a good talent but he lacked the charisma and the mic skills for anyone to really take him serious.

this is the one release that made since. He just wouldn't have have fit in on RAW or Smackdown.

It's a shame but Paul Burchill never really got over with the fans in my view - I'm not denying he's talented but if the fans don't connect to you, it's a bust. I also think WWE are partly to blame for giving him such awful gimmicks - the pirate thing and the "incest" angle with Katie Lea being among them. Maybe if he'd been able to do his "Ripper" gimmick on either RAW or SD, things might have worked out but because he was doing it over on ECW I don't think enough people saw him in a decent gimmick.

» Paul Burchill's untimely release from WWE led to much head shaking within the company as he's a respected in-ring performer and not considered trouble in the locker room. Burchill has told friends he plans on continuing wrestling. The timing of his release is especially rough as friends say he and his wife are expecting a child later this year.

Well WWE had nothing for Burchill to do, so really it isn't much of a surprise even if some backstage of WWE are unhappy about it, if WWE has no plans for your future theres no point in them keeping you.

I honestly think, Paul would fit in well with the British Invasion over in TNA, He'd be a great fit there in my opinion.
