So in a clear counter to AEW's Fyter Fest NXT are running a two week back to back Great American Bash themed show. This is a smart business tactic though as NXT beat AEW in the ratings last week so they need to try and keep that momentum going.

The planned card is looking good, what I assume will be the main event for night 2 is Keith Lee vs Adam Cole in a winner takes all match, I'm really looking forward to that as these two are possibly my favourite two talents in all of Wrestling right now.

Io Shirai vs Sasha Banks has also been announced in another dream match, I think Dexter Lumis vs Roderick Strong and Damien Priest vs Cameron Grimes will also be on the card, will be interesting to see what they do with Karrion Kross I hope he gets a match against another top level name.

I like that NXT are using vintage themes for their big shows, I hope this continues. I also like PPV themed tv episodes every once in a while, it's a smart tactic to boost ratings.

So from what I hear, Io Shirai vs Sasha Banks was a big success, being called one of the if not the best matches of the empty arena era.

I guess Asuka got involved too, which is a good sign as it connects Io and Asuka for the first time in a storyline.

Banks vs Shirai was very good and set the stage for a Asuka/Shirai vs Banks/Bayley feud, Banks' entrance for the match was very cool as well.

To be honest the rest of night 1 wasn't very memorable, less than a week later I'm struggling to remember what matches were even on the card. Dexter Lumis vs Roderick Strong was a solid effort I think, I do enjoy the Lumis character. Rhea Ripley vs Alliayah and Robert Stone was mostly silliness, Stone's character seems to be a comedic loser at this point.
There was a multi-person women's match which was pretty good from what I remember, Mia Yim was booked to look strong in this match even though she didn't win.
Oney Lorcan vs Timothy Thatcher was a very solid mat/submission based match, I'm really liking the booking of Thatcher as a bad ass who is proficient in a old school mat wrestling style.

So some solid wrestling here but I think the only thing that left a real lasting impression was Banks vs Shirai. Part 2 has the Lee vs Cole dream match that I'm really looking forward to.

So night 2 has been and gone, obviously I'm the only one that watched this show on here Tongue

You could easily just watch the opening match and the main event. The opener was Mia Yim vs Candice Le Rae in a street fight, really good brawl with a couple of crazy looking big bump spots. I'm starting to really like Mia Yim and I'm wondering if she's headed to the main roster as she seemed to get a little send off post match.

The middle of the show was all pretty missable filler stuff, Santos Escobar and co vs Breezango and Maverick, Bronson Reed vs Tony Nese, a backstage skit that saw Killian Dain beat up Robert Stone and then Shotzi Blackheart ran Stone over in her toy tank, this was mildly amusing mostly because of Stone's over the top antics, as much as he's being booked as a complete loser his character work is very effective.

The main event was great, as good a match as you'd expect from Lee and Cole, the production was excellent too it had a really big fight feel, a clean finish too rather than the expected interference, great booking.

I started watching night 1 of this show expecting to skip over most of the show. But TBH, the women's fatal four-way was good, after that the Rhea Ripley vs Alliyah & Tony Kahn was pretty funny. I had no interest in the next few matches, but I tuned back in for Sasha vs Shirai.

It seemed awefully short, but what they did was very good. I love both of these girls and they showed why WWEs women's division is so much better than AEWs. I loved seeing Asuka with the swerve. I really want to see more of the triple tails working together again.

EDIT2: On to night 2 now, and it opens with Candice vs Mia Yim. The street right was good. I've never seen that spot with the table balances on the top of the ring ropes. The video promo for Io Shirai vs Tegan Nox was really cool. That bit with Io underwater was unique and quite memorable. Probably one of my favorite video promo gimmicks ever.

I'm watching the Hulu presentation of the great American Bash so I'm seeing a few things cut, I guess, so next up is Keith Lee vs Adam Cole. Looking forward to this.

EDIT3: For my money that was the match of the show. Keith Lee reminds me a lot of a born locker room leader in the same vein as Andre The Giant and The Undertaker. He just exudes this cool confidence and coupled with his ability and imposing size, he not only makes a good looking champion, but he comes of as a man of quiet authority. Looking into the future of this guy, I could see him as a first ballot hall of famer and career WWE guy, barring self destruction or injury.

Ultimately the great American Bash wasn't all that special, but the women's and men's title matches we're definitely standouts.

Overall too much missable filler stuff, I skipped over quite a lot of this two week show, but it did have the edge over AEW's Fyter Fest in that it delivered a payoff with two quality main events.

I agree with Rico about the Tegan Nox/Io Shirai video package, this was a typically polished piece of WWE production work I liked it. I was also entertained by the silly backstage skit featuring Robert Stone, Killian Dain and Shotzi Blackheart, I do like Stone in this comedic role although I never want to see anyone vomit in a wrestling ring again.

Like Rico said WWE have their next big star in Keith Lee and it was smart booking to have him be the one to end Adam Cole's lengthy NXT title reign. Lee really has everything, size, charisma, a unique style and presence that makes him stand out, plus he's a super-heavyweight that can move like cruiserweight, Lee should be the next big thing in WWE and I'm surprised he's not already on the main roster unless they are waiting for fans to return.

As for Cole it's hard to see where he goes in NXT after this, most people fear for him on the main roster thinking Vince McMahon will just see a guy who's too small and will bury him but surely it can't be much longer now before Cole and the rest of Undisputed Era move up to Raw or Smackdown, I would think Raw would be the better fit. It's rumoured that Cole has a year left on his contract so if he stays in NXT but is de-pushed could it be that he is moving to AEW at the end of his deal? It's possible considering his friendship with the Elite guys and with his girlfriend in AEW.
