Cody (with Brandi Rhodes) vs. Kota Ibushi

Hiroshi Tanahashi (c) vs. Jay White
Singles match for the IWGP Intercontinental Championship

Kenny Omega (c) vs. Chris Jericho
No DQ match for the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship

Kazuchika Okada (c) vs. Tetsuya Naito

So looking at this card I'm quite impressed with what I'm seeing. This is such a cross over that I feel like I could watch the entire card and not feel lost despite the fact that I don't watch NJPW.

Quite honestly I don't think WrestleMania will be able to top this.

I wish I could watch this without paying an arm and a leg. We don't really have money to spare ATM, but damn Alpha vs Omega alone would be worth watching the show, but then you add in Cody vs Ibushi, and Okada vs Naito? I'm wishing I had some money squirreled away somewhere so I could see this in nice clean HD.

This card blows everything out of the water from the previous year again. I'm not massively clued up on all the Japanese guys but I know these matches are going to deliver. I'm actually expecting Okada to drop the title now, he's held it for what over 550 days so it's time for a change at the top of the ladder.

The 6 man tag gauntlet is grabbing my attention due to some of the names on show there too.

I have been following New Japan intently for about 3-4 years now.  I really got into the Japanese wrestling scene around 2005 through Pro Wrestling NOAH.  That being said, I'm very happy to see NJPW FINALLY get into the American and international markets.  This card looks amazing from top to bottom.  I love NJPW paces things - it's not like they are pushing everyone to the moon, but they slow build their big matches and they use Wrestle Kingdom to kickstart the next year of stories.  The card does a great job of giving talent meaningful matches, without killing the audience too much.

The odd duck in the card, to me personally, is Tanahashi vs. Jay White.  White is a good wrestler, but his Switchblade gimmick is a weird fit for him.  When those Switchblade promos started I really those Sami Calihan was going to debut.  Jay White was a bit of a let down.  But, this may be Jay White's big opportunity.  Last year, Hiromu proved he could hang with the Jr. heavyweights at WK - maybe this year, White will surprise many.  A win over Tanahashi would be absolutely shocking - considering Tanahashi is basically the "Cena" of NJPW (except, you know, people actually LIKE Tanahashi and he is actually taking a backseat to allow others to have the main event spot ;) )

Currently watching Roppongi 3k vs Young Bucks with English commentary.

I am loving the differences and similarities to WWEs wrestling. High production values, good commentary, better than WWE main roster and about on par with NXT. I just love the old school ring psychology. Ref forces the illegal man out of the ring while the young bucks switch without the tag and apply illegal holds while the refs back is turned. This is how you do tag team wrestling!

I barely know the young bucks, and don't know Roppongi, but they are good.

Will update as I see more.

This was my first foray into a NJPW PPV proper. I've seen some matches over the years, but I watched this one all the way through and enjoyed myself.

Will definitely be keeping an eye on it in the future.

Double posting as it's a longer post so ner.

Roppongi 3K vs Young Bucks - Loved the double sharpshooter and slap segment at the start of the match haha. Really good opener, some very good in ring work and story telling there. I forgot how the Japanese just let things flow, makes a excellent change from the usual stop/start stuff.

Never Openweight 6 Man Gauntlet - Well that was most certainly full of action. A couple of nice moments in the match included the little homage to Nakamura, and the sequence of the first eliminated produced by Zack Sabre Jnr was pretty amazing.

Cody vs Ibushi - Good match, was expecting better though. That Cross-Rhodes from the apron looked nasty.

Killer Elite Squad vs Evil & Sanada - Decent enough match. The poor young guys at ringside took a beating in this one...I assume they're wrestlers in training or something??

Goto vs Suzuki - What a brutal brawl that was. Suzuki throws some stiff shots doesn't he?

Fatal 4 Way - A match full of action and spots. No enjoyed a match that much for a while. I love Marty Scurll...he and Will Ospreay are surely on the radar of the big machine based in Stanford?

Tanahashi vs White - A bit dissappointed in this match...it just didn't work for me...not sure why but I felt it was lacking something.

Jericho vs Omega - Brilliant match. More hardcore than I expected but it worked. Perhaps went on for a little longer than required but match of the night so far easily.

Okada vs Naito - Another brilliant match. Didn't beat Jericho/Omega for but it was close.

Excellent show overall.

Have you seen the mixed tag match where Suzuki and Asuka fight each other? He practically sandbagged her and the more he did it the more she laid into him until she was welting him with every strike, and then when he'd had enough he cut her off and beat the dogshit out of her. It made her look like a badass and him like a total douchebag. I can't think of Suzuki as anything but a heel, and Asuka as living legend just because of that one match.

Today has been really dreary and rainy, and I had to get up at 4am in order to have the car so I could take the kids to school instead of walking to the bustop in the rain. As a result I fell asleep during the 6-man gauntlet. Apparently 4 hours of sleep doesn't cut it for me. But now that I've found a place I can go to watch in English, I'll try watching again tomorrow. The wife will be on her 'weekend' starting tomorrow so I'll be able to stay awake this time.

No I haven't Rico, may have to look that one up but he does seem the type of character to be stupidly stiff haha.

I think my biggest take away from having now finally finished watching, is that Okada vs Naito was what a bore it was. It literally put me to sleep. They were saying the over under on the match was 6 stars from Dave Meltzer and the first 30 literally had me snoring. The last 10 minutes were the only thing good... Reminds me of Hitman and HBKs iron Man match.

Jericho vs Omega was fantastic. That table spot that had Jericho bleeding from his ass was nasty.

Davey Boy Smith Jr looked great. Looks just like his dad now. Had a good match too I was rather surprised at how much I enjoyed that tag match. Imo Davey Boy Smith Jr is ready for another run as a singles competitor in the wwe.

Cody Rhodes and Kota Ibushi was pretty great too. I had a lot of fun watching that match as well.
