WWE World Heavyweight Title Match: Neville vs. Seth Rollins

Back from the break and JoJo is in the ring with Rollins. She asks if this Open Challenge is legitimate and he says it is, he received verification from The Authority but they had two stipulations – his opponent must be under 6 feet tall and under 200 pounds. She mentions El Torito and Rollins calls him out. The Los Matadores music hits but stops and the music of Neville hits instead. Neville fits the bill and makes his way out to answer the challenge.

We get formal ring introductions from Lilian. The bell rings and they go at it trading holds. They go to the mat with more quick back and forth. Fans chant for Neville. Neville gets the upperhand and they lock up so Rollins can take it to the corner. Rollins with a right hand. Rollins stomps away in the corner now. Rollins with more offense in the corner. Rollins runs into a boot and Neville nails a head scissors. Rollins goes to the floor and Neville leaps out onto him for a big pop. Neville brings it back in the ring and goes to the top but Rollins moves out of the way. Neville runs and knocks Rollins over the top. Neville goes back to the top and hits a big corkscrew onto Rollins and the floor. Neville stands tall as we go to commercial.

Back from the break and they’re going at it. Rollins is in control and gets another 2 count. Rollins keeps Neville grounded with a headlock now. Neville fights back and kicks Rollins. Rollins runs into an elbow. Neville with more offense now. Rollins counters and slams Neville by his neck for a 2 count. Rollins goes to the top but Neville kicks him on the way down. Neville with a unique takedown from behind for a close 2 count. More good back and forth and close calls. Neville goes up top for Red Arrow but Rollins rolls out of the way and nails a big clothesline. Rollins goes for a Pedigree but Neville counters with a very close 2 count. Neville runs into a kick in the corner as fans boo the referee for what they thought was a 3 count by Neville.

Rollins drops Neville and goes to the top. Neville runs up and grabs Rollins on the top, bringing him down with a big hurricanrana. Neville goes up for Red Arrow and nails it but Rollins gets his foot on the bottom rope right before the 3 count. The crowd goes nuts with Neville. Fans chant “one more time” at Neville now. He goes up for another Red Arrow but Rollins rolls out of the way. Rollins grabs Neville and nails a Pedigree as fans boo. Rollins covers for the win.

Winner: Seth Rollins

I like how Neville was booked to look inteligent to find a way around Seth's rules so it wasn't El Torito getting the title shot.

He put up one of his best performances and outside of the UK it's one of the most over appearances he's ever had.

It looked like the ref had to purposely stop himself from counting to three due to Seth being in no state to do so himself, hence the crowd making the ref heel with huge boos.

This proved to me that if Neville got a decent push he'd be super-over, possibly Daniel Bryan level. The tepid reactions he sometimes gets are only because he's in the ring with nobody's like Bo Dallas.

I like the whole comic book hero spin they've put on his man that gravity forgot character, it's a good way to get the kids cheering him and also a good compromise to the original plan of a Mighty Mouse character which sounded awful.

He's still young and will likely have to pay his dues in the low/mid-card for a while yet.

I think WWE would be momentarily hot as hell with buzz and fan rage (good rage, not bad) if Owens, Neville, Rollins, Ambrose, Bryan, Balor, Zayn, and Hideo were all either title holders or feuding for the various singles titles.

I know I would love to see Bryan vs Zayn for the IC title.

They would however it would soon die down as that initial reaction would die down pretty damn quickly.

I do think the landscape of WWE is changing though with fans wanting Zayn, Owens, Balor, Itami and Neville, not guys like Orton, Reigns, Sheamus and Cena.

It'll be a long time before these guys take over the headlining spots held by Cena and co but I think it will happen, the booming reactions the likes of Daniel Bryan and Sami Zayn get and the harsh rejection experienced by Reigns and Batista can't be ignored forever.

Not sure what the deal is with Neville and Miz, possible alliance or building to a feud?

Personally I hope it's the first option, a low-card feud will do absolutely nothing for the career of either man and will be instantly forgettable, but a partnership will be interesting, Neville is terrible on the mic and would benefit from a charismatic promo expert like Miz carrying his verbals for him, also neither man is doing much of note solo so it would surely be even a small boost to their current WWE status.

I've always wondered if a Neville heel turn is something worth trying, his flashy aerials are obviously geared more to a babyface character but I do think he could be good as a arrogant RVD type heel.

I'd like to think it's geared towards the first option as Miz can be Neville's mouthpiece and Miz has built a reputation of getting his partners over in a big way so it makes sense for me.

Agreed. I just hope this isn't a plan to introduce the Mighty Mouse character to Neville that was rumoured a while ago, with Miz suggesting he has a future in TV/movies that could be the direction they are going in with this.

Oh no I didn't think of it like that. I'd like to see them quietly turn Miz into the mentor type role and let him have his own little stable of guys he can get over with his excellent mic work who only gets in the ring when it's vital for his stable.

I like the idea of a Miz, Neville, Ziggler, Charlotte, Flair group, Naitch said previously he'd like to manage Miz and Ziggler. I agree as well that Miz is best used as mainly a promo guy and just occasional wrestler.
