When my son was bit by a Rattlesnake about a month ago, I got him minecraft pocket for his kindle fire to play with. Since then my daughter and I have also gotten into playing it. I was having some fun with it earlier, particular impressed with myself for making a big castle with huge walls surrounding a city, blah blah blah, and decided to go online to see how what I made compared to what other people were creating....

SOB man, I almost wish I had never looked. Talk about breaking off a piece of humble pie. I think I'll go crawl in a hole and die and come back later.

Wow... for some reason the only thing I can hear is the Iron Shiek saying "I will make you humble". That is positively impressive. This is what makes Minecraft fun, it combines Lego with an adventure game, making it pretty addicting sometimes.

Just a question, does anyone still play minecraft? if so, just offline or are you on a server? My old server shut down a while ago and I canĀ“t find one with a community that is worth playing for.

I don't understand it, personally. All I've ever seen from it is that you punch substances to somehow gain control of these substances, build things from said substances, then tear it all down and re-build it.

I can see where the creation of cool structures would be fun for people that are able to grasp the concept of building and pure visual creation, but it just doesn't tickle me fancy. I am just more attuned with story based creation, plot, and character focused mediums.

Not sure why I never responded to this but...

Yeah I get that. This is a really good "sandbox" game. It's basically a digital version of legos.

There's a lot more to it, the circuitry you can do with the redstone is pretty mindboggling. It's a good primer for kids to learn how to be an electronic engineer.

There's also the adventure mode, where you build a world, make up your own rules and play games of your own invention. That's what my kids enjoy.

Personally I just spend a little time here and there fine-tuning a midevil world with towers, castles, roads, towns, docks, ships, farms, lighthouses, windmills, etc. An hour or two here and there every week over the course of the last few years and my world is pretty cool actually.

However, yes, I agree when it comes to video games, the ones that really mean anything to me anymore are well written, character driven epics like Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

Games like Mass Effect stand up as a media experience on par with any other form of storytelling excellence.

My nephew plays this game. I've watched him play it for hours before. The doctor says I've contracted a new form of downsydrome from doing so.

I tried to play this game but after like 4 hours of hitting trees with various items, getting eaten by zombies and getting lost I was like "This is pretty boring" and have not even had the urge to play it since.

My best friend however loves that shit...She has built a (surprisingly accurate) version of her flat, like she built the whole building and her house is the on the first floor as hers is IRL....when she showed me I couldn't understand how she was able to hold down a job and a social life but also put masses of time into this game.
