Source - - Ewrestlingnews.com - - The latest “Bring It Back” campaign on WWE’s website is for the King of the Ring tournament to be brought back to pay-per-view with its own event. They wrote: “Although the King of the Ring tournament has been contested several times since 2002 on both Raw and SmackDown, making it the focus of a high-profile pay-per-view gave it a divine energy. By winning this contest of extreme intestinal fortitude at such a large scale event, a Superstar instantly set himself apart from the pack. Although, it did not give the winner a championship title straightaway, it laid the ground work for greatness, propelling him to a level of competition where the WWE Title would surely be decided.”

I'd be all for this. The King Of The Ring PPV was a great way to elevate a new talent or create a new number one contender or both.

I would like to see the event return around June with the tournament winner gaining a World title shot at Summerslam. That would give the tournament more prestige and would also give Summerslam more of a big 4 event feel.

KOTR would be a far more worthy card than some of the trash on the current PPV calendar like Vengeance and Over The Limit etc.

Isn't the quality of a PPV dependent on the matches that get booked? Confused

Yes get KOTR back and drop some kind of lame PPV like Braggin Rights or Over The Limit, heck lets get back to one PPV a month and be done with it!

The name is lame yes, and replacing one of the lame named ones with KOTR would be ideal.

I want the real KOTR PPV back too, and yes you can eliminate one of the "lame named" PPVs for it with my truest blessing, however, not because they are lame named, mostly because they are lame themed. Bragging Rights for example, since the RAW Supershow launched now, Smackdown vs. Raw has NO meaning anymore, nothing at all. So, scrap it. Make a KOTR instead. Have a blasting tournament with hellaciously good matches on it that feature superstars who are worthy of the spotlight they get and watch the buys climb, especially if you time it well

Bragging Rights has been scrapped IIRC. The problem there wasn't the name, it was the terrible, terrible concept.

Nothing wrong with Vengeance, it worked for years until it was temporarily dropped. I don't see the problem with "Over The Limit" either.

I don't care either way, these kinds of rumours come up every six months anyway, but the quality of KOTR is dependent entirely on how it's booked, just having an eight-man tournament doesn't make it automatically a better PPV than OTL or Bragging Rights.

This. No matter what the name is, a PPV's quality depends on the matches on the card, how well the wrestlers perform, and how well creative books the matches.

But I think the points above made were that the PPVs were shitty and just happened to be shit, not that the names CAUSED the PPVs to be shit. If creative half-asses build up and execution to a PPV, there is no chance it will be any good. Wrestlemania's can be shit if creative half-asses it. However, there is less of a chance that they'll half-ass a Wrestlemania, while they don't focus as much on OTL or Bragging Rights. So creative needs to get their heads out of their asses and do their fucking jobs. Then wrestling might get interesting again in the long term.

I hate it when I agree with Raven on a topic.  Hate it.

Bragging Rights was a bad concept.  But let's be honest, the PPV was intended to promote a video game.  With the change in the video game, continuing Bragging Rights made no sense.

Vengeance and Over The Limit are OK.  They aren't really themed and tied to certain gimmicks.  I think that's why they have worked in the past.  They can be used for a variety of different matches.

KOTR does depend on how it's booked.  There's been winners that went on to hot feuds and much success--then there's been guys like Sheamus.  The last KOTR (on RAW) proved that the concept isn't fool-proof.  There has to be a game plan of how to follow-up after the tourney.  Winning the KOTR should mean something more then having the right to wear a plastic crown on RAW.

KOTR will bring in better buys because of the name but that ppv has been some of the worst wwe produced ppvs ever. KOTR 99, KOTR 00 and KOTR 02 were the worst ppvs of their respective years. KOTR 97 wasnt that great if I remember it right and 98 had the famous HIAC match but the rest of the card with the actual tournament was not that great.

KOTR will pop a buyrate but wont be any better in terms of quality than an Over The Limit or a Capitol Punishment
