Mutoh-san's surgery to his right knee was successful. The chairman of All Japan had been suffering from osteoarthritis, the most common disease on the joints, on his right knee for years without ever consulting medical attention.  The condition includes a constant (continuous) tear of articular cartilage in the knee joint. The surgery lasted about 2 hours and was reported to have been a success.

I'm very happy to hear that Mutoh has finally undergone surgery.  He's about 4-5 years overdue for some serious surgery on his knees.  For those who don't know Keiji Mutoh/Great Muta very well, I'll explain a bit about his injury.  Mutoh/Muta, as many know, uses/used the Moonsault as a finisher for years (which smacks the knees into the canvas).  After his departure from New Japan, Mutoh created a new moveset which included his new finisher "The Shining Wizard", with the use of the Moonsault being held off for big matches, to prevent the knee-aching maneuver.  Still the continuous wear-and-tear on the man's knees made his injuries more and more apparent to even the newest fan.  Watching Mutoh walk to the ring would be a vicariously painful experience.  The fact that the man refused to give in to pain was a sentiment to his heart and drive of professional wrestling.  He took his responsibilities as the big draw and chairman of All Japan very seriously to the point of nearly crippling himself for life.

It's unknown if/when Mutoh will return to the ring following this surgery.  But for his own sake, I'm very happy to hear that he's finally done something about it - and hopefully this will mean Mutoh will begin feeling much better and more mobile in his old age.

very glad this is finally getting done. I bought the Muta DVD collection a while back & it just really shows how hard this guy worked to put on great matches, every match taking plenty of stiff moves aswell as dishing them out - and the fact he's still doing it today is incredible.
lets just hope the recovery is without fault & that he can find some comfort as he's getting older, would hate see something go wrong & have to see him in a wheelchair (or worse)
