Quote From Jim Ross Website

againstpgera Asks: Hi J.R. I consider you as the greatest sportcaster pro wrestling had, has and will ever have! You made so many special moments even more important and all because of your unmatched talent! I don't have a question to ask, just something I thought as a possible Wrestlemania scenario. Cena is not having the best time with the so called WWE Universe. He is getting booed a lot. Imagine this now: Cena defeats Wyatt at Wrestlemania but this time he cheats by using a steel chair or something like that and then leaves immediately the arena pissed off, without saluting the fans, just taking a walk to the back. Then at the Main Event, we have Bryan and Batista/or Orton fighting and Bryan gets the upper hand. As usual, HHH storms in the ring trying to ruin Daniel's moment. Then Cena comes in and pushes HHH, while Bryan hits his trademark finish on one of his opponents. And while he goes for the cover, Cena turns on him and makes him lose. I think it would be an awesome way to finaly make Cena a heel and will definetely make a Wrestlemania moment that will be remembered for a lot years. What are your thoughts on that?
    J.R.'s Answer:

There are no bad ideas when it comes to creative brainstorming but I don't see Cena ever a villain.

I think his divorce costing him plenty will have made plans to turn heel even less likely.

Granted he will still be rich, but not by guys to his level in other sports such as Football, American Football, Basketball, Boxing etc.

Lawyer fees will have been big, she'd have got good money to sign for confidentiality and probably got a fair few million dollars.

So what was up with John Cena tonight after his match with Reigns? It reminded me of Steve Austin after he lost to The Rock at WrestleMania in 2003.

I mean first off that was an obvious passing of the torch, but following that you got Cena crying, and taking his time to soak up every little bit of that post match.

It seems kinda like he is retiring... And yet, would Cena actually retire quietly ala Austin 2003? Plus he is only 40 and has no notable injuries.

Maybe he caved and told Nikki he would give her a child too? Maybe more movies?

Whatever it may be, something is fishy regarding that finish, and I don't think it has anything to do with a storyline in the wwe but rather something more personal in Cena's life.

The bit from Raw talk is as follows:

Quote -- After last night's No Mercy PPV, John Cena appeared on "Talking Raw" and was asked by Jerry Lawler if he was retiring from in-ring competition. Here is the gist of what Cena responded with and you watch the full video below:

"No, I just think my role is different. Regardless of if I have outside opportunities, I am 40 years old and I have 15 years of track experience here in the WWE. And not at a normal level, at an elite level. And I don't know how much longer I can keep it up. If I have opportunities outside, great but if I didn't, I gotta know when to say when. And I'm not done but I don't know if I can keep going at the pace I'm going. And I think that's a major thing for me to consider. This is my family, my life, I eat, breathe, and sleep WWE. I'll be like a weird Batman character, when they shine the light, I'll come running."

So just a lighter schedule. Possible a Lesnar type one, where he'll come in and do 3/4 feuds a year then leave again.

Yeah that's what it looks like. It was interesting to see him cry again during that interview too though.

I got no indication from how he acted post match that it meant retirement and if I hadn't seen it brought up here I wouldn't have mentioned it.

Just looked like a guy dissapointed to have lost a big match to a younger guy, after giving him weeks of abuse on the mic and wanting to show respect.

I have watched him on Raw Talk too and would expect him to do maybe just the big 4 events rotating between brands so he's two fueds on each brand per year.

It did look like a possible retirement but there is no way that's what it was. I think it was a simple acknowledgement for Cena that his days as the flag bearer of the company are done as is his time as a full-timer as he now transitions more and more into movies and other outside projects.

Moving forward Cena will be a special attraction likely returning for big matches and big shows that work around his other commitments. Nothing wrong with that it keeps his value higher.

Cena unlike The Rock has put in more than enough time as the face of the company for WWE and I think even as his movie offers flood in all the more he will still keep WWE as a high priority and never desert the company completely for Hollywood.

Quote As seen during WWE’s Survivor Series pay-per-view event, John Cena was eliminated very early from the Team RAW vs. Team SmackDown! elimination tag-team main event.

According to sources, WWE put their main focus during the match on trying to push other storylines and none of them involved John Cena. As of now, John Cena is looked at as a part-time performer in WWE.

It makes sense but when he was eliminated the crowd was silent in shock. No cheers from the happy haters and no boos from his fans wanting him around longer.

I thought it was bad he didn't film say a five minute video to promote being on the team and on Survivor Series, like when The Rock used to all the time to make up for being unable to show up beforehand.

He also looked odd as the only Smackdown guy of the five to not wear the colour blue in support. It made him look like the odd one out and someone who shouldn't have been there.

they can try to justify it all they want, it just doesn't work.

you don't have him on the go-home SDL, but he comes out for the match in new merch, doesn't last long, and then isn't even on SDL after. what was the point?

i'd normally agree he would at least add star power to the match, but you had Angle, HHH, Orton, veteran talent like Balor, Joe, Nakamura, Roode, and your homegrown talent in Strowman. so what was gained by Cena being in the match? I genuinely cant see the buyrate for it jumping that drastically for him. he didn't seem to lead to any pop in SDL's ratings either side of Survivor Series. there is far more reason to argue that Mahal should have been included much like Nattie was added to the women's match after she dropped the title. the silences from the crowd was far too noticeable, probably one of the few times a Cena match has elicited the exact same reaction from all age groups, whether they love or loathe him: "Whaaaaaaaa?"

it does make it even dumber that this was done with no storyline for him, and yet they had a ready made one for Mahal. hell, that last SDL could have been awesome if you had Owens, Mahal, Zayn, Ziggler and a few faces battling it out for the final spot. you'd have had Sami and Kevin walking out after a few minutes, hinting at their annoyance of having to be in such a match with their inflated egos, Mahal being built a lot better by not having the Singh Brothers at ringside, various other small spots throughout the show to keep things ticking into and after the event.

I also assume the bald spot gags have gotten to him since he's shaved his hair again.

If there are no plans for Cena going forward then they shouldnt have had him in the match just to take a pinfall.

They could have used his spot for an ip and coming talent to showcase some of their ability at a PPV

As I've said (a lot), i'm not a fan of the character, but they really didn't handle this well in any way you want to look at it.

the announcement, done by social media. the build, completely fucked when they could have done this after HHH as the one-upmanship on title reigns. the actual match, blink and you miss it, and then nothing until a quick announcement on Raw that he's taking over Fallon tonight, and Today tomorrow.

granted, there really aren't as many people that COULD have taken the spot on SDL, but several were ready written. to say he wasn't involved in the match to allow the other storylines to develop is a stupid reason when several storylines would have been furthered or started by not having him in, and Mahal, or Ziggler, or a couple of other names could have come in.

i'd have even gone for a call up for Drew McIntyre if he wasn't due to continue his title story in NXT with a rematch.

it's one of the few times I will say that not anyone would have been better than Cena, but by their own admission, he bought nothing and did nothing, so there were some who could have had more impact.
