Quote We see a pre-taped promo from Jeff Hardy in facepaint and white contact lenses talking about his threshold for pain being higher. We go to the broadcast table where Tom Phillips tells us about Shinsuke Nakamura's injury, and that Jeff Hardy will be fighting in an open challenge tonight instead of facing Nakamura as originally scheduled.

- WWE U.S. Champion Jeff Hardy makes his way down to the ring to find out who will be facing him in tonight's open challenge for the belt.

- Naomi and Lana are backstage arguing about their dance-off. The cast of GLOW walks in an they briefly talk to Naomi and Lana and say that they should be working together instead of arguing. Naomi and Lana seem to come to an agreement.

- Jeff Hardy (c) vs. Eric Young: Sanity is at ringside, and Jeff's U.S. Title is on the line. The opening bell sounds and Young immediately rushes hardy and beats him down in the corner. Hardy fights back and looks for the Twist of Fate, but he doesn't quite execute it and Young rolls outside for a breather. Back in the ring, Young fires up and drops Hardy with a shot to the face. Young takes Hardy into the corner and puts him a dragon sleeper on the turnbuckle until the ref reaches his 5 count. Young wrenches Hardy's neck and works on keeping the Champion grounded. Young stomps on Hardy, but Hardy gets to his feet and fights back in the corner. Hardy rolls up Young for a two count, then Young fires back with a lariat for a two count of his own. Young picks up Hardy and Hardy stuns him with a jawbreaker. Hardy blocks a shot and fires back with right hands, then drops Young with a forearm shot and an atomic drop. Jeff dropkicks Young down as the crowd chants "Delete." Hardy looks for the Twist of Fate, but Young escapes and they both clothesline each other down. While both men are down, The Usos walk in from the crowd and they confront the other two Sanity members at ringside. Young rolls out o the ring to join the brawl at ringside, and he starts fighting with Jey Uso. The ref calls for the bell as this one falls apart. Young wins by DQ, so Hardy keeps the belt. The Usos/Sanity brawl spills into the ring as Hardy and Young brawl again. Hardy and The Usos clear out the ring as we go to commercial.

Winner via DQ: Eric Young

I continue to dig his new look at him talking in riddles like his brother does.

But then when he comes out to the ring and wrestles, everything is exactly the same as always.

It would be good to see him flip how he walks to the ring and add a few new moves to his matches, whilst taking (or deleting if you prefer) some.

His new look has added a little edge to him which is good.

I wish he would bring back his music from when he was heel champion in TNA though - that was awesome.

E have been very open working with them on a few things recently and mentioning them, so that could be a possibility.

Quote Jeff Hardy (c) vs. The Miz: The Miz comes out to answer the U.S. Title open challenge, and Jeff's belt is on the line in this one. The opening bell sounds and The Miz starts off strong, backing Jeff into the corner with strikes. Jeff fights back and the brawl briefly spills out to ringside. The Miz misses a baseball slide kick on the outside and Jeff drops him on the floor. Back in the ring, Jeff repeatedly slams Miz's head into the turnbuckles, but The Miz fires back with a knee to the face. Miz follows up with a big boot for a two count. Jeff fights back with a forearm shot to the head and an inverted atomic drop. Jeff follows up with the leg drop and the low dropkick for a two count. Jeff dumps The Miz out to ringside and follows up with a baseball slide dropkick. Jeff runs on the floor and leaps off the ring steps towards The Miz, but Miz side-steps and Jeff crashes into the fan barricade by himself. They fight back into the ring where Miz looks for the Skull Crushing Finale, but Jeff escapes and drops Miz in the corner. Jeff looks for a dropkick but Miz fends him off. Jeff looks for the Twist of Fate, but Miz escapes and comes back with a DDT for a two count. Jeff comes back out of the corner with the Whisper In The Wind for a two count off his own. Jeff goes for the Twist of Fate, but Miz escapes and pins. The Miz puts his feet on the ropes for leverage and the ref sees, so he stops counting. The Miz argues with senior official Charles Robinson, and the distraction leads to Jeff connecting with the Twist of Fate. Jeff follows up with the Swanton Bomb for the three count.

Winner & still U.S. Champion: Jeff Hardy

- Jeff Hardy is handed his belt and he celebrates in the ring as we go to the broadcast table where Tom Phillips promotes Extreme Rules. The broadcast team runs down the card for Extreme Rules, and then we go backstage.

I hate predictable shit like this. Babyface doing a open challenge in the name of his country isn't going to be dropping the title.

The match was OK but I would have prefered to see him in a tag team match.

Quote Dave Meltzer also adds that Jeff Hardy, while injured, is going to be working house shows this week and the angle on Smackdown isn't an injury angle to write him out of storylines. The speculation is that at SummerSlam, we may see a triple threat match between Shinsuke Nakamura, Randy Orton & Hardy.

After the beating he took on Smackdown, that should have been him written off TV.

I get why he isn't though, because no matter what pain he's in, he's going to want the big four payday in a couple of weeks, before he leaves to get better.

He shouldn't be getting another title shot after back to back loses to the current champion.

Technically Hardy won the match on Smackdown so it's not out of the realms of possibility that we'll see Jeff Hardy vs Randy Orton vs Shinsuke Nakamura for the US title at Summerslam before Hardy then takes time off to heal up in the build to Survivor Series.
