Quote From Jim Ross Website.....

Time is drawing near to head to Manchester, England for the much anticipated TV taping of ITV's World of Sport, two hour special that we all hope will morph into a weekly broadcast of WOS on the powerful, ITV network. Some of the U.K.'s brightest and most talented wrestling stars will be a part of this broadcast that I am extremely excited with which to be involved.

Over 80,000 ticket requests were made by wrestling fans in the U.K. for the taping of the two hour broadcast that will air on ITV later this year.

I can see this old show that made stars with massive ratings of guys like Big Daddy, Giant Haystacks, Mick McManus etc being brought back full time........

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_of_Sport_(UK_TV_series)

ITV in recent years have brought back loads of old entertainment shows that haven't been around for years (Surprise Surprise, Through The Keyhole, Family Fortunes) but I never thought this one would be.

That it's on our second main tv company after BBC is a huge help rather than hidden away. It will be promoted well for sure.

I really enjoyed this, not sure how it would perform as a weekly show but as a one off it was great fun to watch.

Loved the old school look and feel it had, it did remind me of the original Saturday afternoon Brit wrestling from decades back which combined pantomime style antics with in ring action.

I'm no fan of Grado and him being booked as the star of the show was the one flaw for me at least. Seeing Harry Smith there was a welcome surprise and I would have much preferred to see him win the Battle Royal. Jim Ross and Alex Shane made a decent pairing at the announcers desk.

It does seem like this was maybe a pilot for a permanent show as they crowned a new champion.

'Showstealer' Alex Shane and Jim Ross worked well together but there was very little else I enjoyed and I felt let down by it's dated look, cheesyness and that it came across too scripted like it was taking place in an holiday camp. It looked like it was the Ninja Warrior UK studio which coincidentially aired the first episode of series 3 straight after it. I hope our TUPeeps outside the UK look on You Tube or wherever to watch the show because it would be interesting to see how our wrestling comes across to them plus i'd still like the show to air weekly as i'm sure they can iron out a few things. Nothing is perfect yeah? Well unless it's Olympia Valance LOL Anyway some of the things I disliked.......

The first match was Grado versus Dave Mastiff. For those not from the UK it would be like watching Colt Cabana face Braun Strowman. Two overweight guys, one doing a comedy gimmick and this is the first match you want to air to draw people in?

When it went to a break it had 'coming up' so they shouldn't show what is on after the break because it spoils it just go straight to ads.

It had a general manager old dude in charge who said cheating isn't going to happen. How the heck can they have a wrestling show where if an heel is heelish something happens?

The title what hot potatoed with two champions on the debut show.

The first ever female match in WOS history was a mismatch between two women i'd describe as a white Nia Jax versus a slightly better version of Eva Marie but with a silly tramp stamp.

Grado lost the first match because his opponent cheated and the way to make up for it wasn't a one on one rematch it was putting a guy who got screwed for the title in his second match of the night against fresh guys.

No point having a ladder match if it's got to be super tame for the teatime viewers. It should be a watershed show so 9-11 but if it becomes a weekly show that could be difficult due to other shows on around the same time during the year like Jonathan Ross, X Factor etc.

The crowd was so dead. I guess it will take a while for them to be smarky but WHAT? chants should never happen.

Enjoyed seeing Davey Boy Smith Jnr on the show so many of his reletives have been on.

Big respect also to the past guys with trailers to educate new viewers where the show stemmed from with Big Daddy, Giant Haystacks, Mick McManus etc.

One thing it did highlight was how professional the WWE talent is, by comparison the ring work and promos here were very amateurish, like I said in my earlier post it was very pantomimey with some wrestling thrown in.

I'm not sure this would cut it as a regular show as wrestling fans have now become accustomed to expect a bit more than this, as a one off it was a enjoyable bit of fun but I have a feeling the WWE UK tournament will put this to shame purely from a ring work and production point of view.

Grado is the Scottish Peoples Champion, The Fat Chancer Fae The Tap End Of Stevenson nice to see him not in TNA for a change.

But Fletch is right The show was amatureish for sure but was a wee bit of fun and the show was respectful to the legends of world of Sport and JR was a nice touch
Y'know what?....It's really fucking hot here in Africa. Who knew?....Well me, I have been doing this for almost 5 years

The show was what it was meant to be, a bit of family entertainment, nothing more, nothing less. The in-ring work was ok, the backstage/speaking stuff was shocking, whilst it was good to hear JR on commentary he had his moments of awkwardness.

DH Smith was a nice surprise to have, but other than that the show is definitely aimed at younger kids/family side of things, so was never going to capture the older audience.

With them having a WOS title you just know they'll be doing another show at somepoint, I can't imagine it being a weekly show though as all these guys have other commitments.

I think as a weekly show the novelty would wear off fast. As people have stated the production value and performance is all a bit amateurish for wrestling fans who have mostly become accustomed to what we see on WWE programming.

They could have done with a bit more name value, perhaps if alongside Harry Smith we'd seen Wade Barrett, Magnus, Doug Williams and Drew McIntyre?

I think keep this as a annual event or at best a 2-3 times a year showcase. Nothing to stop the title being defended at indie shows and so forth, perhaps World of Sport could even run a few non-televised events?

Bennett (Barrett) wants to do movies so not sure he'd put himself through that kind of super family friendly thing.

What I would like to see is WOS become a weekly highlight show of the British promotions. It would give them all more exposure and may encourage casual fans to check out their more local shows. Then you can have the WOS title be defended in whatever promotion the current champion is appearing for.

All name value for the UK and worldwide so it would have been nice to see some of those names.

If it becomes a weekly show I expect at least one of them to be prominent on the show.

Whichever director had the camera on JR reading his table notes should be fired though. Although for what ITV probably paid him Jim Ross maybe should have done better homework on the UK scene he was commentating on so he didn't need notes.
