Quote Dave Meltzer reported in the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that former WWE Universal Champion Goldberg was in talks with New Japan Pro Wrestling about coming in for big shows.

However, him appearing for the promotion isn’t likely now as Goldberg is going into the WWE Hall of Fame, and that usually requires signing a short-term deal.

I think it's wishful thinking by them at this point in his life to expect him to travel there regularly, even if they don't book him in a match.

Even if he was to fall out with E, I think he'd just stop with wrestling rather than go elsewhere.

I don't think his style is suited to working a Japanese crowd either.

I question how serious this is.

I mean firstly if Goldberg had any designs on wrestling on a special attraction basis surely it would be for WWE? He’s built bridges with them and got to do his feel good story return and achieve his dream of his son seeing him wrestle live.

Secondly as MUSA pointed out Goldberg works too much of a US style, this was partly why he had issues in his first WWE run as they wanted him working longer matches. Now he’s older and from what I saw in his recent run very limited as to what he can still do in the ring as well as a little prone to injury - his matches have had to become even shorter and more basic than ever. It’s crazy when you think that his whole recent return which included a World title reign saw him complete less than 20 minutes of ring action in total.

In any rate if Goldberg steps in the ring again which at this point I think is around 50/50 at best then I think it will be for WWE.

Its less about personalities in Japan as guys like Tensai and Tomko found success there but they were big guys who could work when they wanted to, I guess a lot of it is the novelty of seeing these big jacked up Americans go up against the smaller Japanese guys.

Goldberg is now 51 and from what I saw in his last WWE stint in the ring he's pretty much limited to a spear and jackhammer. He's older now and has dropped a bit of size and has only worked about 20 minutes of ring action in more than 12 years so I wonder if he can still do much of his power offence he used previously.

If this was maybe 10 years or even 15 years ago this could be good for NJPW but with a 50 year old Goldberg apart from a little interest given his name I just don't see him doing that well over there.

Those guys work big matches and Goldberg is limited to about 6 moves give or take it just wouldn't be good for either side to use him.

If he was going to be used at all I would say a 6 man tag match would be the best way to use him as he doesn't need to be in the ring long and his partners can do most of the work before he comes in for the spear and jackhammer to pump up the fans.

It Goldberg is open to doing more physical stuff for WWE booking him in tag matches or just a few non wrestling match spots is probably the way to go, that way he can keep it basic just hitting a few spears and jackhammers which it seems is all he’s really comfortable doing these days.

I did read a report that said he was being considered to win this years Andre the Giant Battle Royal, I wouldn’t mind that but they tend their feature the battle royal on the pre-show which Goldberg may find a bit insulting.
