New thread for a new season as is customary.

No major signings to speak of (Lambert to Liverpool probably the biggest to date), some interesting releases though with half the 2006 England squad available on a free, with Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand, Joe Cole, Gareth Barry out of contract, Lampard apparently going to MLS, Brede Hangeland, Samuel Etoo and a few potential bargains like Jack Collison & Federico Macheda free agents too.

IMO, Chelsea for the league this season assuming they get Diego Costa, Arsenal, Man City & Liverpool for Champs League again. Hull/Burnley/West Brom for the drop, Leicester for darkhorses..

Championship looks wide open again, my pick would be Blackburn for the league as they were great at the back end of last season. Fulham looked like a Championship side in the Prem so they'll struggs, Derby/Norwich/Wolves/Wigan should be around the playoffs.

Any predictions/thoughts?

Macheda has joined Cardiff :)

I'd expect Chelsea or Man City to win the league, can't see Liverpool having another season like they've just had. Hull will suffer second season syndrome too. Van Gaal to blank the media more than Jose Mourinho LOL

Middlesbrough are my current outside bet for the Championship.

The second half of last season they kept an hell of a lot of clean sheets, but didn't score many at all.

If their foreign manager can sort the front part of the team, watch them go.

Championship wise you got to be looking at Cardif. Brought in some real quality forwards, so if they can keep the majority of the squad together now they should do a QPR and go straight back up.

I agree with JTB this is weird.

Provided Costa can handle play 9-0-1 they will probably win the league unfortunately.

I think we can stay near the top solely on Rodgers. The guy is one of the best shit shiners in recent memory with how he has turned the likes of Sturridge, Hendo and Coutino from bench players to quality first team players. Plus how much he has got out of limited players like Allen and Flanno. And then there is how much he has turned around the antics of Luis and Raheem etc who were dicks until this year.

Can't wait to see what he can do with an actual budget. I think we will get Lallana who has been excellent, Lambert despite his age is a quality 3rd striker to have.

Migno
Decent RB- Sakho- Decent CB- Flanno
Stevie
Hendo- Lallana/Coutino
Raheem
SAS.

That's as good as anyone. Depth will be our issue.

Chelsea
City
Pool
Arsenal

There's my top 4.

Southampton don't need to budge on Lallana though, so if Liverpool don't up their bid to £30m he won't be going.

It looks likely Can will be signed, which could signal the end of Lucas, however Liverpools biggest problem will be Luis Suarez, if Real or Barcelona come in with big money bids, we'll have another summer of Suarez wanting to leave, which will be tiresome too LOL

The big interest for me this summer will be who will Man Utd manage to sign with them not being in Europe, and will Arsene spend anymore money, or just continue to buy dodgy Ligue 1 guys.

Lallana is next to handing in a transfer request if they don't let him go apparently. If that's the case we should be alright

Lucas will go. Can looks decent not sure if he is first team level though. Suarez is a different person this season. Not saying he won't go but it won't a massive saga like last season.

The targets United have are really ambitious. Start looking at fringe players who have been warming the bench this year in other teams. That's where they will be looking.
All Hail Mitchell Johnson and David Warner.

It's an iffy one with Soton as they don't have a new manager yet so selking Lambert is one thing but to risk selling Lallana and Shaw is another.

Quote Liverpool FC have today agreed a deal in principle with Bayer Leverkusen to sign 20-year-old Emre Can, subject to documentation being completed."

Can is understood to have had a £9.75m release clause effective for foreign clubs and it is reported Bayern will receive £1.2m as compensation for waiving their buy-back option on the midfielder.

In Championship news Bournemouth striker Lewis Grabban has joined Norwich, who badly needed a goalscorer after van Wolfswinkel flopped.

Aussie posters - Spain record goalscorer David Villa has joined A-League side Melbourne City FC on a season long loan. He was expected to go to Man City-owned MLS franchise New York City.
