So here's the latest look at the Final Fantasy 7 remake. Gotta admit, for as middling as FF7 is in my book when compared to the rest of the first 10 games, I'm really looking forward to this remake. This looks great.

Also: SOB I had no clue all these years that Jesse was a girl!

I was never a big fan of the original game. It was just ok. I was a HUGE fan of FFVI however, and as a fan of the old school series (1 through 10 & Tactics) I bought a PS4 specifically because this game got announced for it a few years ago and I hope this game does insanely well. I never disliked this game, and I look forward to playing, however the biggest reason I'm looking forward to, and I hope this game does exceedingly well, is because I want to see FFVI get the exact same treatment.

I've played 6 to death, and I don't know if anything will ever top it in JRPGs (Persona 4 Golden came close and 6 narrowly beats out FFIV for me as well and the upcoming Persona 5 Royal edition may very well beat it) but I also really want to see kids these days have as much fun with 6 as I did over 25 years ago when I was in my early teens playing it all Christmas break long when I got it as a gift, and then all the following summer a second time over.

I would love to see the full opera played out, the floating continent scenes and the birth of the world of ruin. I want to see what it might look like in todays graphics going through the rapids from the returners hideout up to Narshe, and to see Figaro castle submerge and travel to Kollington. I want to see what they might do with the land of the espers behind the sealed gate, and what Terra would look like in esper form. I want to hear a fully orchestrated soundtrack of those really rare songs like Narshe, and Figaro Castle, and Shadow's theme, the floating continent, the Cult of Kefka tower and Kefka's tower/final dungeon.

But none of that will ever happen if this FFVII remake bombs. This needs to be a raging success, and I want to do my part if only for that reason alone. Luckily I am really liking what I am seeing and fully expect to like this a lot more than I did when I got it as a gift from my parents my senior year of high school. This game was such a letdown for me the first time around and I HATED Midgar. The game didn't even get good until you left Midgar IMO, yet now, seeing all this I have to admit I'm ok with the likelihood that this first installment will end when you leave Midgar. If the whole game takes place in Midgar I think I'll still enjoy it because there's so much more to see and experience.

Now if I can just figure out a way to enjoy a Final Fantasy battle system that isn't ATB...

Sounds like classic mode might be for you Rico, old school ATB guage and all.

My only issue with the game is Midgar was the worst part of the original and this sounds like the whole of part 1.

Still hyped for it.

As you can tell from my username, Final Fantasy is kind of a big deal for me....especially 7 which started that love

Honestly, I was always going to be wary when I heard that it would be a 're-imagining' of it and set purely in Midgar - especially with a move away from the traditional turn based combat style system.

However, with all that in mind, genuinely it was an incredible game to play. They game is clearly made from a position of love, with the nostalgia merging perfectly with the redesigned levels. I loved the build up of Avalanche and character development of Biggs, Wedge and Jessie (the tease) and thought that it added that extra depth to the story. Were some things going against the original plot (not saying what for spoiler reasons)? Sure, however rather than bitch and complain about it, I'm of the opinion that it gives something for us older players to enjoy and play a game "for the first time" instead of knowing what lies ahead.

Even if you have not played the original, give it a go. It's fantastic

I love what they did, aside from splitting it into three parts. It didn't need that at all. 30 hours? Pft. I put 120 into Persona 5 Royal just days earlier. That decision was just a cash grab and nothing more.

That aside though, I thoroughly enjoyed the remake, and I not for nostalgia's sake. I found the original game disappointing, and mediocre at best. This may very well be in my top 10 all time for JRPGS. I didn't even not Jessie was a girl the first time around. This time? Dude, she's my waifu now. Haha. Barrett's dialogue is so much better than it was and the extra depth is fantastic. Even the complaints I've read from critics about bad side quests and reusing locations mean nothing to me. I loved the familiarity location reuse fostered, and the side quests were just fine imo.

Most of all though I just want this to be as successful as possible so when they're done with this project, they're willing to do the same for Final Fantasy VI, the true gem of the franchise.
