Quote A LLC in New York named "Mocker" recently registered to trademark "ECW" for wrestling use. Apparently WWE let the trademark slip on it.

No. Tell me this is a joke.

I know that there's an ECW Press that has nothing to do with Extreme Championship Wrestling. They are based in Canada and started publishing long before Eastern Championship Wrestling started up.

The former Eastern Championship Wrestling owner Tod Gordon has fought with the WWE over various issues. From trademark issues to WWE's usage of the original Eastern's video library. Mostly becausee Gordon says he didn't sell the early library to Heyman. I heard there was somebody else that was challenging over the right to use the Eastern Championship Wrestling name.

Now as many fights as WWE has had over the trademarks and video library, I just can't believe that they would "forget" to renew their trademark. Granted I would find it hilarious if it happened. I would also fear that Shane Douglas would try to buy it, since he more than any other ECW alumni has still continued to milk his time there.

But a company called Mocker LLC, that name alone makes me think this is a joke.

Quote We noted before that a company in New York recently trademarked "ECW" for wrestling use as WWE let their trademark expire on it. Former ECW head Paul Heyman was asked about the news.

"Yes. Dumbshits who think they can recapture the magic. Some people never learn!"

Heyman then posted the following rant:

"Letters don't mean anything. WWE's #ECW wasn't ECW. Any1 can buy letters. Big deal. ECW was based on ORIGINAL IDEAS! It's called "having an imagination." Obviously, trying to be a duplicate ripoff of the past is not "new" or "original" nor "game changing." #ECW was a product of its time. When I wrote @WWE #Smackdown in 2002/03, I didn't try to duplicate ECW. You move on with the times, people. #ECW One Night Stand was supposed to be a ONE NIGHT STAND. Not a way to re-marry your ex. If someone wants to take a try at re-doing #ECW, knock yourself out. Go for it. Maybe ur investment is smarter doing something NEW!!!"

I guess that Paulie wants to make it clear that he's not involved. LOL

After reading Heyman's comments, I'm really hoping that Shane Douglas hears this. Maybe it will help Douglas to wake up.

I don't think Douglas really cares about what Paul Heyman thinks. If Douglas feels he can resurrect the memory of ECW, he'll do it regardless how many people shit on his product, rightfully or not.

Really wouldn't surprise me if it was Douglas who is behind all this anyway, he really is milking it for all it's worth at the moment so he may as well go the whole hog. There will be no need for an extreme reunion then.

Quote As reported earlier, Mocker LLC attempted to trademark the name ECW for wrestling use. In an update to their attempt, the review panel for the United States government has denied their request due to the fact that it could create confusion with WWE’s trademarks which provide similar services.

The refusal letter specifically mentioned ECW One Night Stand,  ECW Extremists and ECW Vixens, all of which are owned by WWE.

TNA Wrestling was cited as an example how a trademark owner can have a similar place in the marketplace but with a unique trademark rather than using similar ones owned by another entity in the same marketplace.

So this Mocker LLC can't use 'ECW' in a manner relating to wrestling.  I don't know if that means they can use 'ECW' for non-wrestling purposes. But what those might be, I don't know either.

I expect at some point Mocker LLC will just end up selling the trademark back to WWE. Because if  they only wanted it for wrestling, it's now affectively worthless to them.
