  • theoriginaldnh Asks: Hi JR. Obviously David Benoit shares no blame in the crimes of his father, but do you think WWE would still sign him were he good enough? + how could they use him without ever mentioning Chris's name?
    J.R.'s Answer:

Hmm..delicate matter that I don't know the answer at this time. Might be tough for young, David Benoit.

He was allowed in an E ring during an house show the other week, so they don't have a problem with him and they shouldn't have anyway.

I'd hate for him to be signed up though. His dad would have to be brought up and if he wasn't you'd have idiot fans chanting obscene shit at him for offensive laughs.

No matter how good he turns out to be I think signing him isn't worth the hassle.

That's a can of worms I just wouldn't want to touch, and admittedly that's completely unfair to David.

However, I don't see why they couldn't just repackage him with a different name, a crazy gimmick, and ignore Benoit all together.

I mean, how often do you hear WWE mentioning that Bray Wyatt and Bo Dallas are brothers? I only RARELY hear them mention their familial ties to Barry Windham and I.R.S. So in frequent are those mentions that I don't even remember who gets tied to whom, but I don't think they've yet stated anywhere at any time that those two have any relatives in common.

So call him Blade Jericho, and have him play the kayfabe son of CJ and just roll with it. That kind of stupidity worked for Glenn Jacobs.

Yeah give him a new gimmick and just refer to him a second Gen but never name who and as long as he steers clear of the Crossface, Diving Headbutt and Multiple German Suplexes it should be fine....

HOWEVER, Smart Marks will fuck up his chances by chanting "Benoit" when ever he is in the ring (CM Punk chants still going strong and that has been what 3 years now).

But I wouldn't shit on him because of his father if he were in WWE I would be interested to see if he can go and his style

Throw him under a mask and take it from there. If he's good enough they'll find a way to work with him. If he's good enough they'd be stupid to put a label on him that has nothing to do with him. Time will tell though, even more so if he still looks like his old man.
