I agree, his look thinning out made his character a bit off-putting.  It's a shame, because Masters got far better in-ring with his slimmer physique.  I did think his silly gimmick of pec-bouncing was hilarious as a lower midcard gimmick, but it had a short shelf life.  Masters definitely has charisma - not Foley-level charisma, but enough to be a fun face or heel midcarder.  In TNA, he actually wasn't that bad in his role from what I saw.  Though, I think if you strapped him with a female manager and turned his gimmick into a "Rick Martel" like model (rather than a bodybuilder, statuesque male model) it could've worked.  Throw some white clothes on the guy, an open button down, some really large sunglasses, and have him throw on some white chinos and refuse to wrestle until his 'demands' are met - I think that could've worked for him.

Hell, even poke fun at his slimmer physique, say things like, "I'm leaner, meaner, and cleaner" - a tongue-in-cheek joke on himself would make people not care as much, especially if he just embraced it directly.
